Hey, thanks a lot for reqcting to Kiss of Life, the reason you didn't understand the MV story, was probabky because you missed the Solos before that which give the context, I didn't recommend them though since you want to focus on the music more than the MVs which to me makes more sense with these songs, so to anyone here being hateful about that, its not their fault, i chose these songs❤ Some other things: you have probably heard of Natty before because she was a fanfavorite in the show Sixteen (the show that formed Twice) Too shortly explain the story: (Id recommend watching the Solos at some point, maybe in a react or privately), the solos explain the characters origin stories, and Bye my Neverland and Ssh are them coming together and finally having the squad complete (natty failing her first audition is a reference to her irl story failing in Sixteen and Idol school) Bad News and Nobody Knows are a story of 2 sides, first you watch Bad News which shows you the girls doing bad stuff, Nobody Knows shows us the other side, the one "nobody knows" about why they did this stuff The "bringing fresh air to the music scene" is probably more focused on their concept, no kpop group has this type of concept and MV, they show bad sides and more of a "street life" which is very unusual for kpop

@@jeffmonroe4505 Hi Jeff 👋🏾 I totally get what you're saying and I appreciate you elaborating. However, I can't say that I think your point applies here. They aren't failing to relate to the story, they straight up said they don't know what's going on in it. Literally jokingly said "Nobody Knows.. what's going on in these videos" @ 42:37. I'm well out of my teenage yrs, but I can still very much relate to the girl's plight. You don't have to be their age nor do you have to be a woman/girl. Writing it off as simplistic or boring is reductive. It's not a matter of identifying with the subject matter, so much as it's an issue of not watching the MVs critically enough to put together what they're trying to convey through their art (visually & sonically).

For two guys who claim to know oh so much about music and composition (or at least act like they do), it blows my mind that you cannot differentiate a good song from your personal bias. It's ok to not like a certain genre and totally valid to say "This doesn't do it for me, it's not my taste" but to label something as "bad" and justify it with it not being "well made" or "flawed" is kind of ignorant. I've seen so many reactors disliking stuff that I personally like, and it never rubbed me the wrong way, we're all entitled to our own opinions. But to act like some music gurus that know something more, it just comes off as arrogant tbh Maybe try to keep your reactions as opinions and stop acting like you're above what you're criticizing, it's really not necessary for a reaction video.
@1saroca
@1saroca 7 ай бұрын
Also, I've professionally studied music for many years, and a lot of the stuff you guys say in a lot of your videos is just so musically inaccurate. It's your personal taste, doesn't mean the song "needs" it or is musically "simple" just because it's not a strong bass club banger. There's power in subtlety, even if you don't like it.

But these guys actually act like they're big recognizable producers for a famous artist and call the songs, "bad", "trash" like? nobody asked you to HATE. One possible reason the story didn't grip you in the first two MVs is because you started a 6-part series on episode 5. Every song on their debut album has an MV, and they all tell a unified story. The first four MVs are solos, and show individual story threads leading up to the group conclusion in "Bye My Neverland" and "Shhh". In case you won't watch (spoiler alert, till the end of paragraph): Natty ("Sugarcoat") is homeless, but wants to better her life, and is trying to pass a dance audition. Belle ("Countdown") has a controlling mother who is trying to live her dreams through her, forcing her into a ballet life; after a particularly bad confrontation, Belle runs away from home, shoeless. Julie ("Kitty Cat") is a party girl, has too much to drink, but is rescued from an overwhelming situation by a cute guy. Haneul ("Play Love Games") is an influencer, sharing choreographies on Instagram, while trying to make friends in a new school, and is introduced by another cute guy. The overall theme is growing up and putting their childhood behind, some in a good sense, some in bad, culminating in "Bye My Neverland", especially with Natty first making a mistake on the audition, then getting hit by a car. In "Shhh", the four finally get together: Julie, with guilt over having hit Natty with a car, collects both her and Belle to recover at her home, then they go skating, where they rescue Haneul from the boy who turns out to be a creep. Natty has one more try at the audition, and this time she has the other three girls as the support; the "performance video" is the successful audition. BTW, "Shhh" is 쉿 (shwit) in Korean, which sounds suspiciously like an English word. This kind of wordplay is quite intentional, and pretty common in Kpop. "Bad News" and "Nobody Knows" are a different storyline, warning about prematurely judging a situation. They show the same scenes, but where you'd think the girls are bad news after the first video, the second tells you that, really, nobody knows what is going on at the first glance. Yes, they were filmed together, though probably not in a day; the first six were also filmed together, and definitely not in a day. As to being a breath of new life, I imagine it has to do with the fact that there is very few RnB-focused groups in Kpop, that they have some of the best vocals in the current generation that is on the average more focused on production and performance, and that their videos (at least for the first two albums) were significantly darker are grounded in reality than most. To add - I wholeheartedly disagree with many of your comments. I love the creative direction they have, and I hope it continues; this is part of what distinguishes them from the other groups. There is quite enough variation within their chosen genre to keep things interesting for me. You don't like their sound, that's fine; but many, many do.

Interesting perspective. At one point, you mentioned that KIOF couldn't claim its concept to be a breath of fresh air when their songs are easy listening. The thing is, when you listen to a lot of K-pop and you're heavily immersed in the genre, it becomes quite burdensome and saturating to hear that production with a bunch of artificial sounds, thousands of layers, and repetitive, nonsensical lyrics. KIOF breaks away from that by not following what the industry is currently doing, and it's better reflected in songs like "Nobody Knows" (which is also the only one I intentionally repeat). Could the producers be more daring? Definitely. But being a very small company, the truth is, with what little they have, they manage to do a lot. Considering the group has been around for less than a year and the company is practically new, they have a lot to journey through and explore, but with what they've accomplished so far and the talent they possess, it makes for a quite promising future.

It hits harder to watch the solo songs from the debut first, then the group songs Bye My Neverland and Shh. It shows their struggles to get where they are now, and everything comes together in the Shh music video. By the time you get to the midpoint of Shh and they show them going onto the stage, this time together as a group rather than solo, it's a goosebumps moment for me. Also in Bad News you are left wondering why they're being such psychos, but then in Nobody Knows you see the backstory and it becomes an exciting revenge film.

"You can't say you're breathing new life into an industry and genre and then this is your direction on every track" This is just insulting and inaccurate. The thing is, how they're breathing new life into the kpop industry IS BY DOING GENRES AND PRODUCTIONS LIKE THIS. Like you said, songs nowadays have a lot more mixing into it, take more risks and are a lot more in your face especially in kpop nowadays. THIS is how they're breathing new life into it by doing something different. Their songs are easy to listen to and are more old-school. There are only a few groups who have done genres like these, and even so, they're not even committed to it as much as Kiss of life is. The members themselves bring a whole new vibe compared to most kpop groups nowadays. I get that it's your opinion, and you're allowed to have that, but if you're gonna say something like this then at least have someone else to compare them with and see if they're actually doing the same thing. Only then can you go and talk shit about them. I wasn't expecting much from a "kpop hater" but don't make comments like these if you have no valid comparison. I've seen a lot of reactors not like their songs, but it never came off as arrogant as you are being right now.

Considering KiOF won the KMA 2023 Rookie of the Year... I think they are just doing just fine regardless of your opinion of the production. lol Yes, it is retro... everyone out there is doing retro Y2K and KiOF is going straight 1990s. Midas Touch is totally a Britney Spears song... Nobody Knows sounds like something Boyz2Men would do, etc etc. I would hate it so much if every song on the planet was a "club banger"... give me some stuff I can belt along to in my kitchen any day! They are definitely a vocal group though, you are correct on that. They are earning heaps of praise for their stellar live vocals... particularly Belle and her live whistle notes. And while they could do crazier vocals on a crazier production track... that's harder to make the vocals sound good when you're dancing your ass off (and the dances are... very hot). They've really hit a sweet spot for making their vocals stand out, which is pretty obviously what they want to do. And while you aren't fans of music videos in general, and even less fans of music videos with a storyline/pause/etc... a lot of people like & care about stuff like that. If it sells well, it works...and these have sold extremely well for them having come from a very small company. ----------------------------------------------- Have copy & paste list of Kiss Of Life Info & M/Vs: MEMBERS Julie (2000): Leader, Main Rapper, Main Dancer Natty (2002): Main Dancer, Lead Rapper, Sub-Vocalist Belle (2004): Main Vocalist Haneul (2005): Lead Vocalist, Maknae KISS OF LIFE - July 5th, 2023 1. Bad News MV 2. Nobody Knows MV Gentleman (Live Clip) Says It (Live Clip) MIDAS TOUCH - April 3rd, 2024 1. Stating that something isn't anything new in an industry u aren't even familiar with is kinda dumb honestly. Kiof brought a completely different sound and concept to this new wave of kpop groups, that's the biggest reason they got the spotlight even coming from a small agency. You guys honestly need more context in your reactions, i particularlly don't care about you having "harsher" opinions and believe this to be a fun point of your channel, but sometimes it's easy to see one of you trying to come up with a "smartass" take just to end up falling short and making you look stupid and unaducated. As a bit of a construtive critcism: actually do some reseach on the group or topic you want to talk about because not everything can be "just your opinion".

If guys want an example of how to critique a track majority of k-pop fans are looking for unbiased audio files, those who study cinematography, those who studied music, pop culture enthusiasts and graphic designers...basically those who can provide professional critique of music and or video. What is the point of giving “objective” views on the songs and production, if they’re gonna let their biases feed into them. It’s a very apparent trend that they seem to only like it when girls sing happy, bubbly pop songs and it rubs me such the wrong way. What the hell are you talking about xD Just because you don't like their direction doesn't mean it's bad. Actually it fits them very well and it is a breath of fresh air in K-pop to have r&b influenced songs that give a lot of space for the vocals. I really don't understand how you're criticizing the fact that it's not 'trying to be abrasive" like...yeah ? That's the genre they're going for...it's like saying metal is too loud. You know you could just say you didn't like the music and their genre, it's fine. But they're not being wasted...especially since they were involved a lot in their first and second albums (so in all of these songs except midas touch). I think most of the negative reactions you are getting in these comments are because what you said, especially at the end, makes it seem like you 're trying to make your opinions facts about music. I feel like you were expecting something big and "in your face" but obviously it's not their thing and it doesn't make it "simple" or "easy"...it's actually bolder to me because a lot of kpop is "in your face" and they brought it back to what was important to them : story, lyrics, melody, vibe, and vocals. The production is doing exactly what it should be doing : carrying the vocals. This is their specialty. You may not like it and that's okay but that doesn't make their music any simpler or easier. Bottom line, I think you just don't like r&b, you should focus on other groups that do a more typical pop sound or more energetic songs. PS : it's kind of a crime to say Julie's raps are not memorable but okay everyone likes their own things... just to let you know, she went viral for her rap parts multiple times and I think they are a core part of every single one of their songs

Okay so explanation to the Mv’s starting with shh. So shh son the title track of their debut album and on this abut each member has a solo track whichever kind of sets up the main group debut shh. Belles solo countdown shows her having controlling parents. Nattys solo sugarcoat shows her busking and having almost nowhere to go. Julie’s solo kitty cat is kinda more badass and show some her partying and lastly haneuls solo play love games is about her being isolated in her school and using social media as an escape in all 4 solos they reference an audition which is the audition at the end of shh. In the shh MV we can see the girls saving haneul from a boyfriend (the guy they pushed into the toilet) and he asked her out at the end of her solo play love games. That’s about all the context for their debut album so moving there’s bad news Andy nobody knows both MVs use very similar clips madness a lot of the shots are the sameness the overarching plot is the girls trying to take down what I’m assuming is like a corrupt politician and they can be seen breaking into his office and stealing documents which are seen at the little scene in the end of the mv. Some of the solo shots of the members can kinda link back to their debut album with haneul being set in a school where she helps a girl who was getting bullied in her original solo she was isolated in the start of the MV so that’s what that means. Julie can be seen on the subway beating up a perv and rejecting his advances this kinda links to the concept of her solo where the main lyric of the chorus is “not your kitty cat”. Belle in her solo was forced by her parents to be a performer (ballet I think) and her solo shot of her on stage picks fun at peoples disrespect for idols and performers with her pouring coffee on someone in the audience who was being disrespectful to her. Nattys is pretty simple with her solo saying “don’t sugarcoat me” and her later in the bad news MV pushing someone out a window. Lastly moving on Midas touch, (I’m a mythology nerd so I love this one), Midas was an Ancient Greek king who turned anything he touched to gold that’s referenced in a lot of the imagery and lyrics of the song like “I warned you with a single touch”, this concept is basically to show that anything related to them turns to gold so in the context of the MV any relationship is gold. Each member has a solo shot and in the solo shots they have specific characters from mythology, Julie at the start is Aphrodite the goddess of love she’s can be seen on a pink heart and later on when she’s rapping she since again inside a heart, next natty is representing Arachne, Arachne was a mortal who bragged about being better than the gods and challenged athena to a weaving competition with Athena’s enraged she turned Arachne into a spider (where we get the word arachnid). Belle is seen next and she’s depicting Hera the queen of the gods and wifey of Zeus, Herman is often seen with a peacock, this isn’t because her servant argus (a monster said to have hundreds of eyes) was sent to watch on one of the women Zeus had an affair with, Zeus wanted to visit the woman so he sent Hermès to kill Argus, in honour of him being her favorite servant she place do his eyesight into the eyes we see on a peacock so feathers so that’s why belle is wearing a dress which resembles a peacock. Lastly Haneul is Medusa, medusa was a mortal cursed to turn anyone who looked at her into stone, haneul is styled with large ribbed pigtails which represent the snakes Medusa had for hair and she can also be seen with severed heads made of stone around her, later on we also see her with gold snakes around her. That’s basically a full analysis of the storyline and design of their mvs from a kissy so I hope that helped.

I probably should’ve added some paragraph breaks to that so sorry if it’s hard to read. Also a little thing I missed but the bridge of Midas touch actually has each member reference their solo. With natty saying “ain’t gotta sugarcoat me” for her solo sugarcoat, Julie saying “looking like a kitty cat” for her solo kitty cat, haneul saying “my loves a game I play” for her solo play love games and belle saying “once the countdowns done” for her solo countdown.

An information that I don't know if will be relevant to you is that "shh" was their debut so "bye my neverland" is a b-side/predebut song that links their history line. Also 3 months later "bad news" was their comeback again with "nobody knows" as b-side

Watching your reactions to XG and now Kiss Of Life neither of you seem to be able to grasp the story lines of most of the music videos and the group's lore because you're "focusing on the music". When reacting to groups you're not familiar with I suggest starting with their pre debut songs or in KOF's case their introduction solo songs. Then go in chronological order from their debut song to their most current song. I hope when you get around to reacting to Mamamoo you start with their two pre debut songs Don't Be Happy and Peppermint Chocolate then continue in release order with their debut song Mr Ambiguous, Piano Man, Ahh Oop!, Um Oh Ah Yeh, Girl Crush, I Miss You, 1cm Taller Than You, You're The Best, Recipe, New York, Angel, Dab Dab, Decalcomanie, Woo Hoo, Aze Gag, Yes I Am, Paint Me, Star Wind Flower Sun, Starry Night, Every Day, Rainy Season, Sky Sky, Egotistic, Wind Flower, Gogobebe, Waggy, Gleam, Destiny, Hip, Wanna Be Myself, Dingga, Aya, Where Are We Now, Mumumumuch, Illella.

their fans recommend 5 songs of their choice and they are definitely not going to go all of mamamoos discography. If 5 songs take an hour then that'll be a whole 24 hour video.

Before you guys react to any more kpop groups, please react to a guide first on the group before venturing in further. Each kpop group stands out in its own unique way based on their concept, genre, and themes. One of the key things that sets Kpop apart from other music styles is the choreography. Please also pay attention to their choreography and watch their dance performances. They have amazing live performances! I recommend you check out ATEEZ next.

I appreciate reactions that are critical like yours. There are too many overly positive reactions on YT out if fear of aggresive kpop fandoms. That being said, your critcism about them not breathing new life to kpop is based on your lack of kpop context. You said you want more variation but that is the typical kpop trope. By being more similar to western/american music, Kiss Of Life are actually pivotting hard against typical kpop. Once you listen to enough K-pop that your ears are tuned to it, youll listen to KOL and realise they are very different. Its just to American ears they are quite normal.

But these two...not only they are blinded by their own biases but they are also refusing to understand "yeah i don't like this, but i honestly don't really care about it" "i like this one, i don't like the other one" at least digest it lol, offer your audience some insights and perspective, so people with different taste could appreciate your comments and feel entertained by your reactions. i watched both this and Ive reaction in the past 2 days, and the fact that you loved Ive but really didn't like this shows that you need to change the title from Kpop hater to just kpop fans, since Ive music is traditional kpop and this group is like modernization(or not) of old pop with sprinkles of kpop...so this is likely less kpop than Ive, and i'm fine you like one while hate the other. just gotta stop using 'kpop hater' in the title cuz that's just clickbait-y or in your words, maybe tacky since obviously you prefer the conventional kpop. for me, i like both groups music generally though not enough to make me a fan (and though the bar is low with how most of popular mainstream kpop now are not even listenable for me), i didn't watch if you did for some hybe girlgroups(don't wanna name names, that company has nasty fandoms, well, all groups do but their scale is so big, so is the nastiness) but if you did and you had better things to say abt their music...now that might cause me anger given the very strict and harsh opinions abt these songs which many i've seen agreed actually are among the better ones in kpop recently...cuz to me those hybe girlgroups music are what i would consider easy listening to the point of bland and sucking life out of me so if i see someone being harsh to these songs while loving those, yeah i'd be mad but good thing is i won't know since i have no interest to watch any video related to groups i have no interest in lol. anyway, i'm curious what would your opinion be for ONF music. now this is a group with very good reputation musically and i kinda want to know if they will satisfy your standard/expectation of kpop.

i totally understand people being kind yiked by the fact that they don't pay attention to the MVs stories and all, but, like.... i get that it's important for the lore but their entire channel is based on music reviews, like .... they rate every group on their music and the production and, like, the way they're produced and built musically. if you follow their content you'll realise they hardly give points for MVs. i do wish they would pay attention to the lyrics as well, tbh and i honestly think that paying attention to lyrics when you're rating music based on music is way more important than paying attention to the MVs. if their intention was to rate the groups as a whole, considering lore, MVs, music, production and all then sure paying attention to the MVs and choreo would be important, but... idk.... i feel like people are kinda missing the point of the channel in a way ? idk anyway i'm digging the videos even when i disagree with the ratings idk just a thought that will probably get me hate lol

this is my first video from this channel and i saw the comments early in, so watched it keeping an eye out to see what the problem is and i can’t find it lol?? man just has a preference, and they said everything respectfully, saying their personal opinions, but respecting the artistic direction. he even made the comment about the production being done well bc they did what they were intending, it’s just not what they want to see. the wording did slightly cross to bit rude after midas touch, but they still gave fair and pretty good scorings, they liked 2 of the songs, were positively neutral about another, and didn’t really like one, that’s normal and honest. and the guy that cares said he’d go back to figure out the storyline, so give these guys a break gosh😭

Watched a few reactions from you peeps to make sure it wasn't a one off, but it's always as though you're trying to look as disengaged and at times repulsed as possible. Music wise, you seem to like a very specific type of production and music, and actively dislike or ignore everything else. Nothing necessarily wrong with that, but with this kind of attitude and the level of commentary I'm confused as to why even react to an industry that is so varied and multifaceted

Kiss Of Life (KIOF) is great. To newcomers, you need to start by the beginning by this order: Kiss Of Life MV's are mini movies with a story all connect each other 1- Sugarcoat (Natty Solo) MV 2-Countdown (Belle Solo) MV 3- Kitty Cat (Julie Solo) MV 4- Play Love Games (Haneul Solo) MV 5- Bye My Neverland (Predebut song) MV 6- Shhh (Debut song) MV Then the Comeback "Born To Be XX" Mini Album: 1-Bad News MV 2-Nobody Knows MV + 4 great B-sides - TTG - My 808 - Gentleman (Live performance MV) - Says It (Compose by Belle) (Live Performance MV) Single Album: 1- Midas Touch 2- Nothing B-Side, maybe their best song so far "Our Stage - Nobody Knows" , Live, in my opinion is one of the best ways to see they perform live and know what each member bring to the group. Julie 24 Korean/USA (Hawaii) Lider, Main "Hot"Rapper (but also a hell of a hot dancer, she was a ballerina back in Hawaíi) Natty 21 (22 in May)Thailand, Main Dancer, All Rounder Belle 20 Korean/USA (Seattle) Main Vocalist, The Princess and Dolphin voice/High Notes Haneul 18 (19 in May) Korean Maknae, lead vocalist Fandom: Kissy They have covers, dance covers, great live performances like the big events awards MMA, SMA, CCMA....

i watched several of your videos in the past few days. Some of the things i noticed about the two of you are already in the comments that others made (things that don't really make either of you look good). However, I would like to add something. I would like the guy on the right (ATOM) to have his own opinions, because too many times he seems to agree with the other one while there are signs that he does not and that he actually has a different opinion, which, for some reason, he doesn't express. For example, he may say that a song is good, but if the other guy says it isn't or that it's great, he (ATOM) will somehow change his mind, all of a sudden) and agree that the song isn't good or that it is more than good. Just saying...
