GFRIEND. A legendary kpop group that established it's own sound/genre (which can't be stressed enough in a sea of kpop groups that all sound the same) known for (excluding Mago): -string or piano counterpoint (Bach would be proud) -occasional screeching guitar lick/solo -running lyrics and verses to create movement -heavy use of the IV-V-iii-vi chrod progression (commonly known as the anime chord progression) -often and crazy key changes that seem sudden but are hinted at earlier in whichever song ....the songwriters definitely know their music theory -knife-like precision in their choreography and synchronization (often they are labeled as the most synchronized gg ever in kpop). I know you guys don't care about choreography but they did a video where they danced an entire verse and chorus blindfolded of Mago that's how precise they are Even non-GFRIEND fans COULD argue the main comeback songs you didn't react to (Me Gusta Tu, Navillera, Glass Bead, Love Whisper, Labyrinth) would be even better than the 5 that were given to you that's how extensive their catalogue is

I hate their agency, they just threw the girls out. Just because they went at a loss. Their agency was already bought out by HUBE at that time, I don't know what prevented them from promoting them as well. I remember they announced the tour and were about to leave, even the dates were already known, but just the news, like a bolt from the blue, that the girls just didn't renew the contract, and most importantly, ALL TOGETHER. GFriend contracts were terminated, the contracts expired at December however they were terminated months before that, so it's wasn't the members but the company. 2. They didn't have a tour or dates, but they were going to release a cb and a new album 3. They weren't at lost, they were giving good money and all their merchandise was sold out, however the bad management used the money of GFriend in training other girls.

If the relationship ended because the contract was not renewed, you can't say it ended abruptly. Disbandment is decided by the company, not the artists. If they acquire the rights later, they can return. In the meantime, GFRIEND is disbanded.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that they are disbanded. Many though they are gonna go higher after Mago. But you can actually still (kinda) hear their release after this. Majority of the members are debuting again. 2 become soloist (yerin & yuju). 3 members forming a group together (Viviz: Eunha, SinB, & Umji). The leader (Sowon) pursue acting career Another interesting group is Apink (hopefully the discord people recommend them). They are an older group (2nd gen) that are still active. Like Gfriend, their sound in the beginning half was really different than the recent one. I believe you will prefer the more recent half song though. The instrumental in the songs is really cool & unique

The previous comeback, Crossroads, which came out after HYBE took over Source Music, was the last one that resembled the original concept. Yup i still think its unfair for the agency to just suddenly end their contract. Even until today buddy still wondering what was happened. They even didn't let the members to talk abt it or to meet buddy for the last time as a group under source music. Apple, Mago was great although it wasn't as appreciate as their older release especially by koreans, but in international both song was got more appreciations. Another Funfact : rough was their very first song that make them won in music show programs. koreans are really love that songs and their other musical theatre type songs. In 2015 - 2016 the cutesy type song are really popular. Good news, that gfriend leader, sowon said gfriend wasn't disbanding (actually all the members said something similar). They just got out of that agency (kicked out). And if the opportunity come they will like to make a comeback. Though we don't know when. I miss gfriend so much, they were the only group I religiously listened to since I was in middle school, and now I'm entering college. Gfriend disbanded because after HYBE bought them in, there were monetary issues between like the sub labels and left Gfriend's company in debt (as a result, the company added ridiculous terms in their new contracts and members decided not to renew and yeah :( They were basically kicked out because of greedy company leaders and competition between those leaders.) Members didn't know they would disband until like a day before and it was bye bye, I resent HYBE so much for buying source music (Gfriend's company) and then kicking them out. Source Music started out as a company in a basement (literally) and they were able to build up a proper company building because of Gfriend's success (they were the only active group under Source Music back then.)

Gfriend's label (Source Music) disbanded them. The members didn't even know themselves. It's speculated that Source Music disbanded them for Lesserafim. Gfriend members always say they haven't disbanded because they will reunite eventually. Three of the members, Eunha, Sinb and Umji, are now a trio known as Viviz. Yuju and Yerin and soloists and Sowon is an actress. Some more GFriend songs with a sorta different vibe are Me Gustas Tu, Navillera, Sunny Summer, Fingertip and Crossroad. Japanese title tracks include; Memoria, Flower and Fallin Light Some great B-sides include: Neverland, My Buddy, Trust, Gone With The Wind, Labyrinth, Windy Windy, Rainbow, One-Half and Room Of Mirrors (These are my personal faves!) I would love to include that Gfriend has some crazy lore in their songs which to this day no one has really solved (Only theories can be made for now)

it’s funny you say their producers wrote their music for a Musical, they were supposed to comeback with Red Sun! before they disbanded which the concept is actually a musical theatre show. They released the song as VIVIZ (group composed of three members of past Gfriend members after they disbanded) if you wanna check it out

Red Sun! was actually a title track candidate for the album 'Time for Us' (2019). The original title of the song was 'Fantasy', but yeah it wasn't chosen as the title track, they didn't even include it as a b-side. And as we know 'Sunrise' was the one chosen.

I know both of you won't care, but what you can't see in the vids is that Gfriend was known for difficult dance moves on top of amazing vocals. There's an older vid somewhere of Gfriend dancing blindfolded, they were so spot on in sync that I think they went on longer than they had intended. If interested, I'd look for first vids on the hardest Gfriend choreos and why they're considered difficult... then maybe lists of the most difficult kpop choreos of all-time, but maybe newer kpop KZbinrs don't remember Gfriend by now. Actually if Soumu create a better girlgroup with a good vocal and choreo im still accept their disbandment with proper goodbye..but the company lost its image..Soumu really famous with girlgroup with top tier vocal and dance but after new group replace gfriend im very shocked they pick them just because of popularity and they make a new video to shut the hater cuz of their girls cry for got many hate comment for cannot sing..im really disgusted with it..idol must know at least not tone deaf when singing but they cannot singing live..i dont want mention the group name but its obvious everyone will know

Gfriend didn’t disband they just ended their contract with source music. * cause they are shit and were treating them as shit when they built source music literally from nothing* As a buddy they did the best thing. GFRIEND was such an amazing group and had so much to look forward to. I truly hate that they were done dirty and forcibly disbanded against their will. I hope we get a reunion performance one day. Most of them still make music though! Eunha, SinB, & Umji formed a new group called VIVIZ. Saw them in DC this month and they are still amazing. Yuju and Yerin have both released solo albums. Sowon is modeling/acting now :)
