red velvet is considered to be one of the best kpop groups of all time. their discography is immaculate and they have such an amazing concept with their red sound (pop, bright, weird, camp) and their velvet sound (rnb, mature, ballad), and even now with their red velvet sound (mature sound with moments of rnb but still really weird and kinda bright). they are the queens of vocal layers, harmonies, b-sides, and vocals.

You have only scratched the surface of this very experimental top tier iconic group. Their chaotic presentation is there on and off the stage. They are top notch in their vocals, visuals, concepts, choreo, weaponry….. They are from SM, an entertainment company, their title tracks might not be for everybody but all have a purpose with memorable videos. Their b-sides are where their best music are without the videos. Their versatility is amazing, being actresses, musical stage performers, radio DJs, tv show hosts… that’s just for Wendy. Idols of idols and still going on strong and unpredictable in their 10th year.

Check out a concert vid outside of Korea for Zimzalabim, it goes hard in that setting. ReVeluv’s are often called Luvies also by the members and ppl in general. RV is also known for a lot of their best songs being b sides, more of the consistent velvet side

One thing you need to know about Zimzalabim is that this Red Velvet's edition of the traditionnal "SM girl group 5 songs in 1 track". They did it for Girl's Generation with "I got a boy", which kinda considered like the bohemian rhapsody of Kpop, then they did it in third gen with Red Velvet and Zimzalabim and they did it with Aespa in fourth gen with "Next Level", you really need to react to all of these because this is a traditionnal SM move for every girl group they create and when you know it, it really helps understanding this chaos x)

Yeah red velvet 25:02 they have the 2 sides. Red being fun, bubbly, experimental and velvet being smooth, sultry, mature. They do crossover quite a bit in b-sides and some titles.

This was a great variety of red velvet songs in this list! Chaotic is a great way to describe red velvet to people who don't know them. Their group name is showing off their different colors-- "RED"= experimental, pop, fun/silly, cutesy, & bright songs (tend to be their title tracks). "VELVET"= mature/sexy, R&B, ballad, & even more vocally focused songs (like Bad Boy and Psycho, but tend to be their B-side track). "RED VELVET"= BOTH! can be a velvet-based chorus and red verses, or a red beat with velvet vocals, or any other combination that you could still call chaotic (this had been more of their combination and vibe on title tracks since feel my rhythm came out!) Red Velvet and Mamamoo are ALWAYS in the same conversation for kpop fans. Yes, they give off completely different energy and concepts but both are amazing in their own ways (especially since they're both known for vocals) and can never be truly compared to each other. (Plus a few members are also friends) Would LOVE to hear more of your opinions on them since they now have 10 years worth of music (about to have a comeback at the end of this month!) I love that they made you listen to Zimzalabim cause if you can see what's good in it even though it's absolutely supposed to be the most ridiculous track you've ever heard then you're so set. Zimzalabim is a vibe check and you passed tbh Anyway, Psycho is one of my favorite songs in K-Pop still... They're incredible in their duality. The "Red" side is more of the cutesy or fun songs while their "Velvet" side is more of the focused songs with lots of r&b influence usually. They occasionally mix the two together, but that is the premise of Red Velvet. They are also such an extremely strong vocal group. I recommend watching their Killing Voice someday.

Honestly when someone new listens to Red velvet they will always say they are very extremely experimental and all over the place which is true because it IS intentional to be. 2. Red velvet music is always a hit or miss for new listeners and thats perfectly Understandable. 3. People will always say this group's concept and music genre is all over the place, but trust me everything IS intentional to be the way it is because since debut 2014, their group concept and discography is TRIPOLAR like their name (RED) &(VELVET) &(RED VELVET). -The red are supposed to be their lighter, bubbly and very experimental songs and the girls are happy in the video with their designated colors (songs like Red flavor, happiness, umpah umpah, power up and etc.) -Then we have the VELVET side where their songs are more slowed, rnb, and dark and crazy concept where we see the witch girls being crazy casting spells and trying to kill someone or each other with songs like (bad boy, psycho, automatic, peekaboo, kingdom come and etc.) - Then we have the mixture of both sides (red and velvet) where it is both bright and dark concepts mixed up,both video wise and musically. With songs like (Zimzalabim, peekaboo, ice cream cake, feel my rhythm, chill kill and etc). So in short they have a very messy yet organized concept that they have sticked with for ten years now. This group is also known for their bside tracks and VOCALLY of course we can't go without mentioning them since they are from sm and that company train their artists mostly based on vocals and red velvet is their strong vocal 3rd gen girl group. Lastly, lately I see newer groups (4th gen kpop groups) doing the same concept as them having both Cute yet Dark sides and it makes me happy that the girls really did something in the kpop industry growth. I can tell already that you both are more into their VELVET songs but I still enjoy hearing your opinions on their RED & RED VELVET songs. I like that you guys are so honest and straightforward with your opinions. Even though I’m a fan, I find red flavor kinda annoying too😂 They released many R&B songs but among them, “Kingdom Come” and “Automatic” are the two big R&B classics. There’s one title track called “RBB” which I think is easy to appreciate but most kpopers think the opposite. This song might sound interesting to you as well. (Not the typical kpop song, it sounds like a crazy musical to me.) Btw, I didn’t like zimzalabim that much at first listen but then it became my daily anesthetic without side effects.
