@brandimullins88132 жыл бұрын
As a kpop fan who is mixed (black and white), i completely understand the message of your video and in many cases i agree. i even have to admit myself that i'd probably unconsciously feed into it. i think kpop rap has kind of started to devolve in some aspects as it becomes more and more westernized. but i also think that songs like GDragon's songs and other YG songs would not be done the same way if they were done by black American rap artists. Now lets say an American artist does a cover of a kpop song. Lets say, oh, Cardi B covers a Jessi song. I think she'd kill it for one, and for two, i think she'd make it her own. i think above all else each artist has their own style. many kpop artists are inspired by American music because the world is very American-centric without even meaning to, wanting to, or consenting to. America seems to push its culture onto other countries in the world (i say this as an American myself too). while at the same time other countries adopt American/Western culture either because they think they have to in order to progress or just without thinking about it. Kpop from what I've understood from others is historically inspired by western music. though i would agree that kpop is slowly starting to lose its Korean culture in favor of trying to become more internationally popular because there will always be people who will not accept music from other cultures simply because its a different culture. I think that's part of why BTS has spent so much time making all english songs. their last Korean song was Boy With Luv i think which still had a lot of english because of Halsey. I think the kpop industry is starting to fear that if they don't cater to Western audiences, kpop will go back to being niche and popular only amongst certain spheres of international fans. and above all else kpop is a business. kpop labels aren't in the business of making music, they're in the business of making money, and to make money you need to grow. and i think the labels view growth as capturing the international market in ways that sacrifice the culture of kpop in favor of making it "easily digestible" for the western market. and then of course this translates into the bias that "if this was done by a black/american artist, it would suck, but it's kpop so its great". I think part of that is also because for a long time and still today rap music is definitely about drugs, sex, gangbanging, and money. of course not ALL rap music is like that. there are many artists, black or not, who don't rap only about that kind of thing. Namely Tech N9ne just off the top of my head. Eminem too if you, you know, ignore the racial and lgbt slurs and the foul language and the insinuation of domestic abuse. i think the "kpop rap is better because its 'pure'" bias started because enjoyers of rap music got sick of the disentegration and delinquency of rap music now compared to what it was in the 90s. a lot of people (me as well) felt that rap music was no longer meaningful and what was lost in American rap was found in kpop rap... until kpop rap started to model American rap more and more in order to progress. TLDR: Cultural bias, cultural change, and valuing progress over identity are to blame for why some probably would not like kpop rap songs if they were made by black rap artists. Is it right? No, but this is the situation that has been created because of people's feelings on the state of rap music in America. Above all else, just enjoy music, no matter where it comes from or who made it, regardless of the color of their skin. Talent is talent. Hard work is hard work. Anyone can make good music, not just Korean music and not just American music. PS: Tough Cookie was disgusting and it shouldn't exist and it made me un-stan Zico so fast i nearly forgot who Block B was in the first place. I'd rather go deaf than listen to a single second of that song. I hope Zico regrets that song and I hope it serves as a reminder of what NOT to do in the future.

I’m sorry old BTS songs hit hard that’s why black ppl love them and after AHL their hip hop and R&B songs quality went wayyy up because they learned to appreciate the culture from actual black ppl instead of just being culture vultures and perpetrators

@@notwerkinginthishouse8634 Um 😐 wtf does that have to to with them being racist or not Hobi didn’t even know what Crush was apologizing about and just like all his pics and Suga clarified that the Jim Jones thing was being misinterpreted, with that being said most of BTS collabs have been with black artists for a reason and they only hangout with black artists because they appreciate the culture more than some of y’all faves who definitely don’t like Black ppl

Kpop these days seems to be focusing on their Western success... I've seen a quote such as “If a Kpop Group don't appeared on a Korean TV shows that much, that means they are successful in the US market” which kind of having the same reference to BTS and BLACKPINK rarely appeared on Korean TV shows due to their overseas schedules are already packed. This is what I hate about kpop these day... They keep on focusing on the shortcuts instead of slowly crawling up until they reached the top... I kinda some of the songs in the videos actually... But never analyzed things as much as you does cu I don't stan kpop but just searching for songs to keep in my playlist lmaooo

Sincerely speaking I loves bts because of their hip hop era. And blackpink is, if not only the girl kpop group I like became of Lisa style of rapping. I automatically connect to anyone who does hip hop more. I am black and that's what made me like some kpop groups. I don't have a problem with kpop artist doing hip hop but as they are coping they should love those who started it too and treat them like humans.

Bc the beats, lyrics and even looks are straight up black American artist COPIED. If they were recorded in the US, they would've got sued they know they keep the operation in Korea they won't get sued. Its literally a scheme by the koreans to create black music but they don't want their youth idolizing black artists (racism) so they just teach their artists how to mimic it.

the description box is there for a reason… but since it clearly went through your head, black rappers are almost always degraded for their music and their subject matter meanwhile the non-black rappers (like the idol rappers in this video) who copy them are always praised. and those raps from zoo and nunu nana SUCK idk what else to tell you
