Ok 15:21, I need to officially apologize to Manon cuz she wasn't singing those first ad libs I heard! Haha that was Nayoung but we couldn't see her on camera! It doesn't change any of my feedback on Manon's performance... but I was wrong! Also, IMPORTANT QUESTION - 3:18 - are SMARTIES chocolate or are they tiny chalky hockey pucks??? Let's do a poll in the comments! lol

Technically Smarties are both... but I prefer the chocolate ones bc they're basically M&Ms but smoother

ugh i’m so glad you can see the charisma nayoung had during still into you. i’m sad she was eliminated solely because she was uncertain if she would want to be in a group long term, but i get they wanted girls who were committed to the vision and i’m hoping she’ll be able to flourish as a solo artist like she originally wanted. one of the prettiest new voices i’ve heard in kpop in a while 😭

Basically, Samara had liked a video that showed bad food in India and then people started saying that she was xenophobic, so even if she had talked about the food, it would have been the food in the video and not the whole country, After all, everywhere there is food that is sometimes not prepared as it should be, but the foreigners spread it around to make it impossible for her to debut, in short, unfairly

FR. You liked video that in someway show some bad things going on (cause those things are not invented, it’s real) and since it happens to be located in another country, you’re Xenophobic. People on the video you liked are Indians so People’s logic wants that you don’t like India and all Indian in general.

@@yawnzzn1206no. those videos in Brazilian Portuguese were NOT supporting Israel but instead explaining what was going on between Israel and Palestine without any type of bias. I'm Brazilian, I love Manon and I'm pro Palestine, by the way. The only thing that is true about Samara was that she liked that brazilian meme mocking indian street food (that even though can be seen as disrespectful, is part of a series of brazilian memes that mock every street food with "bad hygiene". Brazilian street food included. There's one mocking "Batata de Marechal" that is a very famous brazilian street food). Everything else in this whole drama was a mix of things getting lost in translation and manon stans creating extreme theories to paint her as a racist and/or an Israel supporter. I've even seen people comment that she was part of a cult because she followed her OLD church in Brazil and the church had posted weird stuff about the genocide on instagram. Does this imply that she agrees with that? No. You guys painted as a monster a 17 year old girl full of talent and dreams that came from an environment of extreme poverty and violence in Brazil and could've changed her life and the life of her family forever just because it was clear that the peoducers would only allow one black girl to be in the group. This is gross and unfair. (Specially coming from a grown ass woman that should've verified and clarified things before going on KZbin hating on a teenager based off rumors and fan base gossip).

Loved manon but I absolutely got what you mean and really hopes she can work on it. I've noticed and come to the conclusion that I think she in particular looks so unengaged because well 1. she joined late... way less training time than most of the others but also as funny as it may sound she isn't a kpop fan and I really do think watching kpop performances indirectly makes people better at and more aware of facial expressions and knowing how to engage during performances. Most of the girls that came on this show were kpop fans except her and maybe a few others and I can't help but think that's a part of why she seems to not get it. I notice the artist she mentions liking a lot don't really perform this way and I don't think american performers openly speak about how important it is compared to Korea. This isn't an excuse but just something that dawned on me like I really think watching some kpop performances would help her understand what she needs to be doing. By the finale I think she got a little better but it'll take practice. You can definitely tell she didn't really dance or anything before the show but regardless I still think she showed a pretty promising growth while there.

I think already in the finale we saw her improve in terms of her stage performance (that reaction is on my channel)! I love how much talent they have and am excited to see how they keep growing. I think that's a good point about being a k-pop fan, though. There's a certain style of performance that we naturally pick up on when we spend a lot of time watching other artists - for me, it was growing up watching Britney Spears, Janet Jackson, Madonna, etc. but these days k-pop idols are giving us that kind of performance. I'm sure now that's she's in a HYBE-affiliated group (with bandmates who are k-pop fans), she'll get lots of exposure to different idols!!! haha

If I´m not mistaken Samara came from a really religious family and what I heard is that she became 18 and before this her social media had influence of her parents and the posts the people unburied are from the past. Dream Academy was very manipulative with the voters, actually Hybe has really manipulative realitys, so don't surprise me a very stable candidate like Samara suddenly has a scandal on her back. I'm from Brazil, so maybe my opinion is biased.

The israel post weren't from the past because it was happening present day. I really don't think the votes were manipulated, she was being judged on a global scale and most of the world find israel horrific so it's believable that she lost as many votes as she did

Here's what I will say: I can ALWAYS give grace to young artists/idols who make mistakes. Like, teenagers are impulsive, teenagers are influenced by the worlds & people around them, teenagers sometimes say or do things without really thinking about the impacts on others. There's room to learn and grow and become better so I don't like that netizens are so quick to cancel people for making mistakes. BUT, there should still be accountability. Sometimes the natural consequence of making a mistake is that you lose an opportunity, because there are lots of people who were hurt by your actions. That's part of life and, hopefully, something that can help you learn and grow. So, I have sympathy for Samara but I don't feel bad that she started losing votes after this. Hopefully whatever opportunity comes her way next will be the big one that will launch her career and she'll be a little bit older, a little bit wiser and ready for it then! 💚

@@KPopwithKhadijaAnother thing that people got wrong was saying that the fan vote would help - that's a lie - there was no way Samara could debut because the judges are the ones who decide who gets in. Samara was targeted, right? all because of two likes on two videos - one that does talk about the Israeli war, but the subtitle was changed because the video has no position for or against Israel, and the same goes for the video that claims to be from India, but the country isn't mentioned at any point, and what's worse, there's no way of knowing where the video was made, it's clear that with the subtitles changed it was easy to change the narrative whoever did this manipulation knew what to do with these videos they even called her a Zionist which she isn't a racist genocidal piranha they also invented putting china in the middle the whole thing is rotten disgusting what they did to her to get her out of the way a lot of it out of envy and prejudice because she's latina I don't know if she's Christian but in Brazil almost everyone is either Christian or Catholic...

Regarding the Samara drama: No. those videos in Brazilian Portuguese were NOT supporting Israel but instead explaining what was going on between Israel and Palestine without any type of bias. I'm Brazilian, don't usually listen to K-Pop and only watched Dream Academy last year out of boredom, love Manon and I'm pro Palestine, by the way. Late, but this vid just popped up for me, I'm glad you were honest about Manon. I'm trying not to hold it against her, but her diehard fans were kind of unbearable during the competition, many people were frustrated that Manon ranked so well but wasn't very good at actually performing, but it was insinuated that anyone with genuine criticisms of her is just racist. I think her following grew because early on the judges were critical of her because she missed practices and wasn't there when the first girls were cut, supposedly because she had Covid? From then on people said the judges were racist and her following grew from that. But I had mixed feelings about it, Covid is absolutely a good excuse, but many others girls still practiced and even filmed their performances with full on Covid. Maybe there's truth in that the judges were harder on her, they did heavily praise the girls that worked while having Covid. I dunno, I don't want to make light of it, but ultimately it wasn't Manon missing practices that made me upset, I personally found her performances distracting in a bad way. The deadpan face is just... offputting to me. In the end what got me is I think every single person that was cut in the last episode just before Manon was easily more talented, but it honestly seems like they cared more about diversity than talent? One of the last girls cut literally was a national champion dancer 😬 It's a touchy subject, because diversity is important, but it still rubbed me the wrong way that Manon is particularly bad at performing and beat out other girls. But I also get the optics of a white girl getting the last spot and no black girls making the cut, unfortunately Samara did ruin the opportunity for herself. She would've easily gotten a spot if there had been no controversy around her, I just hope the allegations are actually true, there were only rumors about it, I didn't see solid proof.
@NickaLah
@NickaLah 8 ай бұрын
Just wanted to add that while I don't think Manon making the final spot was particularly fair given her poor performance skills, I try to remind myself that people with lighter skin tones are given unfair opportunities all the time. She is genuinely pretty, and maybe they'll be able to train her enough by the time they debut that I'll eat my words, but I was still disappointed with the final lineup because of it. Hope to change my mind, tho.

K, before anything else, I just want to say THANK YOU for sharing your thought here! You explained your opinions so clearly, but you were also very considerate of all the different factors and I love how open you are to other ideas than your own. It's very rare that I see comments like this, so I just really wanted to appreciate you for that! Secondly, I do feel like her performance ability was not great from what I saw, and I know there are lots of other incredible talented girls out there also fighting to "make it" in this industry. So that was a bit strange to me. BUT, who knows what the overall goal or vision of the group is. Maybe diversity is more important for this group, so it is worth it for the company to invest more in artist development for her. Maybe her personality just fits better with the others, or with the vision for how they want the group to connect with fans. Or maybe she was just really nice and she took direction well and seemed like a good person to work with long-term? Lots of different reasons she could have been the best pick. She's definitely talented, I can see that. She just needs some more time to develop and train that part of her so I'm glad she's getting the opportunity. It sucks that other girls who are also very talented didn't get this spot but... I truly believe there's space for everyone. I love how in the finale Ezrela said even though she didn't make the group, she felt she was the artist she wanted to be - if they all keep learning and working hard, their chances will come soon!!! 💚
