It was poor concept after the original. This KITT had zero personality, this michael had no personality.

The show was on right around the 2008 financial crisis and was extremely expensive, both for the studio as for Ford, who sponsered it. The high running cost paired with the stupid decision to run it at the same time as American Idol or America's Got Talent (one of those two) which was very popular at the time got the show cancelled after just one season. Also, people didn't like the concept of the Knight Foundation being paired with the FBI, which they fixed in late episodes, but the damage was already done. Also also, the producers tried capitalising on the popularity of the Transformers movies with KITT transforming but viewers didn't like that either. In short: Many mistakes were done that could have been fixed in a second season but the 2008 financial crisis put it over the edge. Did I like it? Oh yes!

Well, the original KITT got the Super Pursuit Mode at some point. Also, they needed to adapt new KITT functions to the 21th century vision of the concept of "technology", like they did for the 80's KITT.

And even the Viper Defender as a 90s (?) show had a transformation -- while it didn't turn into an actual pickup truck or something like that, defender mode had a significant hull transform as well, often performed mid-drive. Interior changes had the various displays rotate or move into position -- I don't think the seats rearranged, though 🙂
