RIP . Just a couple of days ago we mourned the passing of Dave Greenfield of The Stranglers. Today another music giant, Florian Schneider has left us. Without Kraftwerk, 1980s superstars such as Depeche Mode, OMD and The Human League wouldn’t have existed. Thank for the wonderful music, Mr Florian Schneider.

Most techno and hip hop music wouldn't exist either. The pioneers in those genres all said they listened to Kraftwerk for influence. Quite a few of them sampled parts of Kraftwerk songs. Kraftwerk were unsung pioneers who quite a few were inspired by one way or another.

I do like the Kraftwerk, OMD, Bowie, Human League, Depeche Mode but it is a joke how Gary Numan isn't mentioned in any of these discussions. The BBC not only onitted him but should remember that they tried to ban him because tgey didn't consider synths to be 'real music'; accordingly Numan was ridiculed for decades when he was the biggest trailblazer of synths, albeit he was preceded by other exponents such as Krafteerk and John Foxx. But to talk about these other so called 70s and 80s grouos without even mentioning Numan is just fucking ridiculous.

R.I.P Florian. The world will never see your genius again. When I first heard autobahn and trans Europe express I knew my life would never be the same. It took until quite recently for me to see Kraftwerk live in Dublin and I was still as amazed as the first time I heard you. Thank you.

Was fortunate to catch the original band on my 21st birthday back in 1981 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. A wonderful show. I remember it being super long. I was mesmerized. Had wait many years to see them again. This time in the early 2000’s in Minneapolis, alas without Florian. Will be breaking out the old vinyl in his memory today. So sad.

I first heard Kraftwerk when their Autobahn album was released. The local record store was playing the title track and I was immediately hooked and took a loan out just to purchase the album. Luckily for me, the loan came from my parents and not some loan shark. I was an instant fan and purchased all their albums before and after their Autobahn release including all of their re-releases on CD. I never had the privilege of seeing them live so I always appreciate the technology that allows me to watch one of their live performances here on KZbin. I dabbled with other electronic music artists and the only ones that I appreciated was artists like Gary Numan and The Buggles. A tune that always makes me chuckle inside is "Sex Object". My favorite tune by them I think has got to be Computer World. It has a great melody and really foretold the future of computers before they were even a household name. Rest in peace Florian Schneider. Your music and that of your band mates made my life so much better. Thank you!!!

I first found out about Kraftwerk from a library book I got on Germany. I didn't really care much about them at the time (because I was only about 12 and wasn't into electronic music), but that would all change the next year. One night, as I was randomly scrolling through KZbin, I came across a song called "Computer Love", which was from their 1981 album Computer World. I fell in love with the song and restarted it about 3 times that night. Kraftwerk has inspired me so much for the past year or so. They have got me interested in the synthesizer and its sound capabilities and have helped me develop my own style of music. I play half of all their songs now and sing along with them. I found out today that Florian Schneider died last month, and I couldn't take it. He was one of my favorite members and it was hard to take in. But for as long as I live, I will always love his music with Kraftwerk and will love him too. Rest in Peace Florian.

Loved listening to "Autobahn" on the 8-track player as a little kid--especially after my mom gave me some cough syrup! The track itself, Autobahn, is undoubtedly the most unique-sounding song I've ever been a fan of. Nothing else is quite like it. RIP, Florian.

In 1977, when I was 15 years old, my dad, of all people, turned me on to KRAFTWERK. He was a mail clerk with the San Diego post office, and a much younger cohort there had mentioned this band to him. Dad, knowing I was a sci-fi nut, thought it might be something I'd be interested in, so he went to Tower Records which was a mere few blocks from the main post office where he worked and brought it home to me. Man oh man, how it blew my mind! I'd never thought of my dad as cool, but he sure grew in stature to me after that...

About 15 years ago, a Brazilian TV report program made an episode about a radioactive accident which happened here, not much time after the Chernobyl disaster. Radioactivity by Kraftwerk was chosen as the opening soundtrack. After I found out who was singing, I started to dig everything I could about them. Such a great loss.

What can any true electronic musician say other than all those like us became who we are, doing what we do, because of the few daring people like Florian Schneider, whether other electronic musicians realize this or not. Yes, the first time I ever heard purely electronic music, was them. It was when I was like 12, and a childhood friend came over to my house and played their most recent release at the time, which was computer world. Obviously I would never be the same after that. RIP, Mr. Schneider. You were all stupendous.

I've been a fan since Autobahn. Back in the good old days of Napster, I was listening to lots of Kraftwerk on there, then I heard Rammstein's version of The Model and became a fan of theirs immediately. I used to be a roadie for a band that had us play Computer World as their intro song. Always wanted to see them live but never got to. RIP Florian Schneider, a pioneer of music.

I just read I WAS A ROBOT by Wolfgang Flur. read it!!!! and realize Ralf and Florian were idea thieves and stole the credit of several of their biggest songs. Ralf and Florian tried to take Wolfgang to court to silence him, loosing in the end. In the end, Ralf tried to take biggest percentages from concerts then Florian, stating he comes up with more of the intellectual property of the band. Florian left over this, never speaking again to Ralf. And now Florian is dead..... Its a good thing these guys dont do interviews much. It would ruin all the false impressions we as fans have if he did
