The reviews for Kath Perry's comeback single & album were savage across the board.

The album cover for Disraeli Gears was by Martin Sharp, who also wrote the lyrics for “Tales Of Brave Ulysses” 👍

Rock reviewers were not cruel and heartless. They were just reactionary and usually wrong. No one with any self-awareness wants to be the fool who says guitar groups are finished in 1962 or kids will never like this electronic music in 1974. The art always outlives its critics. You see it in every artform. From Whistler to Ramones to horror films and comic books. The critics are myopic. There was probably someone in the Lascaux caves pompously pronouncing that its production was "trite and will never be comparable to Caveman Plog's bone-clacking incantation of the spirit dead" or something. What you actually see in those Kraftwerk reviews is the fear of the critic/the know-it-all being irrelevant, which of course many of us will grow to be.

Teri Garr was Gene Hackman's on-again/off-again girlfriend in Coppola's underrated classic "The Conversation"

Kraftwerk, Cream, Nirvana, savage reviews, fantasy girlfriends and a naked Nick Cave ‘plush doll’ 0809am 11.11.24 nirvana, like most power pop, seemingly nice little intricate ditties akin to antiquated nursery rhymes which are wreathed in distortion... which, akin to Hepworth, i enjoy. a bit of angst in music is required. as for the polished turds that are the stool of the professional outfit... you can keep all that. warts n all is fine by me - probably why i enjoy demos or out-takes of songs as opposed to the officially sanctioned record company choice cuts. very much enjoy the wide range and scope of these dudes and their "knowledge".... the london cab driver reference isn't going to work.... as for electro pop or krautrock - seems like one big con job - but i did suggest circa 1980 i'd leave all that nonsense until i got older. it aint half hot mum? classic. nice. i used to own whispering grass and clive dunn's grandad. yer, right, mark e smith did say: novelty was something to be spat upon.. a sentiment i disagree with. one hit wonders are fine by me.... as for kraftwerk - i only enjoyed the idea that they, the band or roadies, set up some shop front dummies next to some keyboards and played a pre - recorded backing track tot he fans. dunno if that tale is true but it seems amusing....

I love Nirvana Unplugged I play it more than Nevermind. I'm not bothered about how unplugged it was or wasn't (sometimes it's mentioned that the Bowie song was obviously electric sounding) I like the stripped back sound and the vocals.

I wish Kraftwerk, or whoever/whatever is blocking it, would permit the reissue of the first 2 albums, the ones with the traffic cone covers. Yes, I know they were a v different band back then, but it was good and original music. Preferably, of course, remastered & extended :)

The classic NME review of a single from Frank Tovey (Fad Gadget) = "Yet another single on Mute records... Are they deaf as well?". Ouch! P.S. Teri Garr was scene-stealing in, "Young Frankenstein" - such a marvellous actress, r.i.p.
