At this stage the drumsounds were played by a sequencer and this squencer also triggerd the synths or in some cases sequenced them. The device was called TRIGGERSUMME (you can see it in this clip aswell) and was a custom bulit sequencer by Matten & Wichers in Bonn. Kraftwerk used the first sequencer on the Trans Europe Express Album, but this sequencer was used for melodic patterns. And do not forget: Many 80s Band had their drums on tape-machines and played the synths live aswell.

@@top-ten.music_and_more yeah, like Depeche Mode for Instance...or Human League. but i agree Kraftwerk were different and waaayy ahead of the competition. and even Kraftwerk used a short tape thing sometimes at the end of performin TEE in this era. actually they used a cassette. lol.

@MrChromed8 жыл бұрын
+Jamestuff By the 80s, Ralf (and the other members in general) inclined to "move" on stage. By the 90s (and, by meaning, for "The Mix" tour), they weren't "dancing" like Fernando did. Fernando danced/moved too much on stage, and that broke the "Aesthetics" of the new Kraftwerk 90s era. In general, Abrantes wasn't a bad member (in fact, I like his "Music Non Stop" Solos).
@SaintCharlos8 жыл бұрын

I agree that he danced too much, but judging from his recent activities - releasing an "album" called Mix 2.0 with track names Musique Non Stop 2015, Solo Non Stop (his Music Non Stop solo stretched out for 3 minutes), Tour De France 2.0, Man Into Machine, The Model (Mix 1991) and Laser Harp (Live), he's also a fucking idiot, so it's probably that too

@@johannesweiss4691 I know, I do think that it wouldn't fit nowadays too. It's just that the synthesizers sound better (In my opinion).
@CertainlyCaro5 жыл бұрын
While it does look less interesting, the modern technology has its benefits over the old gear. For one, those older analog synthesizers, especially ones built in the 1970's, would very often be out of tune after being turned on. I'd still argue in favor of their sound though. Analog synths like Florian's Prophet 5 are fantastic, and I'd love to get the opportunity to play one.

It was a customed designed drum sequencer linked to some kind of what they called a "Drum Computer", the "Friendchip Mr.Lab". The TR-808 was just being released in Japan at the time, and Kraftwerk didn't use it before 1984 for the conception of "Electric Café".

@inversion668 жыл бұрын
Yellow Magic Orchestra was probably the first band to get an '808 onto an actual issued recording. They used one on a version of "1000 Knives" performed during their December, 1980 performance at the Budokan in Tokyo, which seems to have been broadcast on Japanese radio soon afterward. It then appeared on several tracks on their studio album BGM, released in March of 1981.
