I have a 2017 model bought from Chicago Music Exchange that was Diver Down paint scheme. Maple body and neck back then and is quite heavy. Had it custom painted to 5150 stripes but instead of red, it is flip flop paint that turns from red to blue to purple. they are fantastic guitars for the money. Paid 550.00 on sale.

@@DeathRattlingWhore I already did. Lol in the past 4 months I’ve bought a Nightswan, Snake Sabo Beretta and a StageMaster and I love all three of them. I’ve been an Ibanez guy for years since Kramer went down but now that Kramer is back I find myself gravitating right back. I’m telling ya. Gibson or Epiphone or whoever owns Kramer now is doing a great job. All three of my Kramers came setup and perfectly tuned right out of the box. The fret work is phenomenal. I think Kramer has a higher quality now than they did in the early 80’s.

Played a Sabo and liked it, and I own one of the new Nightswans (Aztec version) a couple of the inexpensive Baretta Specials, this “84”, and a Gunstar…and love ‘em all. I recently purchased one and love it. I swapped the push/pull gimmick pot for a standard one. I'd like to swap out the tuners. Can you tell me which hipshot model you used and did they require any hole diameter modification? Thanks.
@EJBGuitar3 жыл бұрын
Just the standard "open gear" Hipshot locking tuners...Hipshot basically has two types of locking tuners - the ones where you can see the gears (open gear) and the enclosed...they're basically the same...the open gears might be a tad bit lighter in weight. The holes needed no modification.

Great playing and I love the stories from back in the day (a penney???)! In the 80's I had two cool Superstrats, a white BC Rich STIII (unfinished maple neck), and a black Kramer Baretta (Rosewood Neck). Both were very cool looking, but the Kramer just sounded way too dark for my tastes. The BC Rich had a bigger, warmer sound with a much nicer neck. I wanted desperately to love the Kramer, but it was just not a s nice as the BC Rich so I traded it. I still have the BC Rich, it became my main guitar for years and years. I should have just swapped out the pickup on the Kramer and fiddled with the neck, but I knew nothing about that stuff back in those days.

So...the Kramer 84 or the EVH 5150 Std? I kinda like the 1 pickup and that it's a JB. I like the alder body and matte white finish. However, I like the EVH stealth finish probably more and that it has a killswitch and D-tuna already installed. I also like the look of the headstock on the EVH more. And the Wolfgang bridge pickup is very nice. I love harmonics, so both pickups do the trick. However, I don't like the position of the pickup selector switch on the new 5150s...on the upper horn. They should have put the killswitch there and the pickup selector down where the killswitch is...like last year's 5150s w/out the killswitch. I don't mind basswood either. If it was good enough for Eddie, Satch, and Guthrie, it's good enough for me. I know basswood is lighter than alder or maple. I don't love the Wolfgang neck pickup and don't use a neck pickup all that much anyway. The Kramer is a little bit less expensive. Hmm...
@EJBGuitar3 жыл бұрын
The EVH 5150 Standards are extremely great value...they are STACKED feature-wise...great pickups, trem, D-Tuna, etc. I have a lot of history with the Kramers, so nostalgia gets me but if not for that I'd lean towards the EVH - just hard to beat that value.

Eric, how do I know what size tusq nut to put on my Barretta Special. I’m having some tuning issues and I would like to replace the factory nut with a self lubricating tusq nut. I’m also replacing the tuners with locking tuners. Thanks if you can help I’d appreciate it very much!
@EJBGuitar2 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure I used the Tusq PT-6061-00 if I remember right, but you still have to size the nut for the correct height - I didn’t have to do much to the width, but the new nut will definitely be too tall.
@OldSkoolLegend2 жыл бұрын
great review.... you didn't just blast it on distortion like other ppl did. You showed a variety of sounds. nice job. I got small hands and I want this guitar because of the narrow nut width (so that I can thumb mute the E string easier. my Les Paul gives me a hard time with its 43mm nut width) and the single pickup no nonsense look.

@AndyK.232 жыл бұрын
Great demo! We're definitely of the same era! Cinderella, Warrant, VH - Nice! I think the weakness of the '84 is the JB pickup. Stick a Custom, or even a '59 in there and it really opens up the tone.

@EJBGuitar Жыл бұрын
That’s a good question. I mean it’s not lacquered like a fender neck…it’s the same smooth, satin feel as the back of the neck so however they treat the neck (if they treat it), the fretboard feels the same.

Hey guys I own the same guitar. Got a question: Do you have your Floyd Rose parallel to the body so you can still pull it a little bit up? Or did you tightened the springs so it's not parallell anymore and it lays on the body? Because I've never had a non-recessed Floyd and I'm still not sure how to set up it correctly. :P
@EJBGuitar2 жыл бұрын
You can set it up either way…whichever you want, but depending on which way you go with you may have to tweak the intonation which isn’t necessarily hard, but it is time consuming on a Floyd! Since I have several recessed Floyd-equipped guitars, I personally have a trem stop on mine so mine is parallel to the body, but still dive only.

Not sure which one you’re referring to, but the profiles are listed in the top left corner…the majority of them are Big Hairy Profiles (like the ADAMP V2 D Wags profile and the ADA45 Clean), some are Tone Junkie profiles.

@@EJBGuitarMade COMPLETE sense. I just bought a Kramer 84. I intend on doing the same thing as you did.

It’s not based on a Baretta. It’s based on Eddie’s 5150 Kramer. Eddie’s 5150 Kramer is this for the most part. This is actually closer to the 5150 than the Baretta. The original 5150 body was based on a Pacer body but the neck was based on Frankie. The headstock was based on Eddie’s Ibanez Destroyer. In truth, Eddie’s 5150 Kramer was neither Pacer nor Baretta. It was a….well….5150.

If you're paying $1000 for this you're paying too much...they're $799 retail, but yeah I agree that they should either just ditch the treble bleed cap or get a better cap. The tuners might be fine for some, I just prefer locking tuners on ALL of my guitars.
