Another great vid Kramer, thanks for sharing. I agree bee's wax is great for string making, but a little heavy for maintenance. Strangely Bee's wax candles are usually cheaper than plain blocks.. I know people melt down bee's wax and add some thinner, like Vaseline or KY jelly, could play around with what ratio works for you 2:1 could be a good start. Much cheaper than the market wax and works just as well. I don't have many strings to maintain so use the Bohning wax, I only generally wax every 2 or 3 uses, or when it starts to feel a little dry.

Do you wax the whole string or leave out the serving ?

Instagram, we number 7 Thats a great number :) Nicely done, it is nice to see someone do the last few strings, by wrapping it back under and using the tool to tighten it up as you ll the excess, I have laughed on a few videos i have seen where the cut the string and fiddle with it etc. I do it the same way. never made a string, but I have reserved lots of strings over the years. Thanks for sharing my friend and have a blessed weekend. Happy New Year. Dale

I recently bought a long bow to get back into archery. I took recurve classes as a kid and haven’t really done it since. Now that firearms and ammunition is entirely to expensive, I am attempting to get back into a more traditional archery shooting. I bought a Ragim archery fox custom 62” long bow to start out with. I was going to get the SAS maverick that you suggested but I would not have received it in time for a trip. Anyways, the string that came with the bow is not twisted at all, should that worry me?

I recently got into it myself so take what I say with that in mind. My bow came with a string like that as well. I was told in a shop I went to to get arrow that I should have the string straight and put about 8 twists in it before stringing it. It cuts down on the sound and adjusted brace height enough to stop popping my wrist. The string that came with it is probably a cheaper string and that's how they are. I hope that helps you bud and I hope you are having as much fun shooting as I am.

Thanks, I appreciate it! I set a lane up in my basement and have been shooting down there. I’ll try the twist out tonight. Out of all the shooting I’ve been doing, I’ve managed to only pop my forearm 3 times hahahah

Can't I just use regular candle wax and a hair dryer (to heat up the string)?

Just one thing, the direction of the serving must be the same as the string, in your example you do it in the opposite direction.

maintenance for my strings - shoot them for 1 or 2 years (without waxing or anything) and then making a new one :D btw my serving is about 4" long...

You need to watch your camera angles. The background for part of your demonstration for finishing off the serving was black. The black serving material couldn't be seen against that.

You might be the best bow/string maker, your mind is fast due to making so many bows and strings . For the experienced bower your talking might be fine ,but for newbies all I hear is noise ,is your pants on fire?
