I like to think they're not actually trapped in the snowglobe, I like to think it's a sort of surveillance system Krampus uses to make sure the family doesn't lose their Christmas spirit again. I love this movie. Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner, Conchata Ferrell are great, the creature effects are superb, and the atmosphere is great. I don't mind the slow build because it makes the 3rd act great.

I actually prefer Andy’s second theory, that Krampus gave them a second chance and is using the snow globe to keep an eye on them. Gives the holiday a more ominous meaning for them. And if you really think about it, if Krampus was using the snow globes to punish families, then the room would have to be huge. Because Christmas started being celebrated in 334 AD, meaning that Krampus would have punished thousands, if not millions of families before 2015, when the movie was set.

Krampus is the pagan southern version. In my area (west), St. Nicholas comes with a christianised version called "Knecht Ruprecht" ("Rupert the Servant"). This is, btw, also the name of Santa's Little Helper in the German dubbing of The Simpsons. St. Nicholas as a bishop and a saint can only bring good things - so he needs his dirty servant in a black hooded robe, with a potato sack, a face blackened with ashes and a bundle of hazel twigs to give out punishments. This used to happen in a very literal way: Naughty kids were put in the sack, Knecht Ruprecht carried them out of the house and gave them a whipping with the hazel bundle. In the south, things are a lot crazier. For example, the "Krampus runs" Andy mentioned are designed to scare away winter demons (and you need a demon to scare a demon; that's why they dress like that). In central Austria, two groups of demons (i.e. people in demon costumes, armed with bells) meet on a frozen lake on January 5th, "the day of the bell-ringers". It's a specific Perchtenlauf ("Krampus run") event. Percht is a southern version of the name Bertha and means "the shining one"; Perchten is the plural. The goddess Percht/Bertha is in some traditions the mate of the heathen god Krampus. Their followers are called Perchten, and there are two types: The beautiful ones (who represent spring) and the ugly ones (who represent winter). They meet on the ice of the lake and have an epic showdown with bells, in which the light (aka spring) triumphs over the dark (winter) and bans the ugly Perchten until next winter. Similar masks and costumes are also worn during the southwestern Carnival before the Easter lent to confirm the victory over the forces of dark.

My family and I saw 'Krampus' in the theater, and it instantly became a holiday favorite. I'm so glad you decided to finally review it. I'm a little late, but I hope you guys had a great Christmas. I have always loved the fan theory that Krampus is simply keeping an eye on the family. To me, it becomes much more haunting than if the ending was just they all died. Instead, it means the entire family now has to live with the memories of their deaths, and the knowledge that out there somewhere is a creature that won't hesitate to come back for them if they should repeat their mistake. Imagine having to go an entire lifetime dreading Christmas for fear of Krampus coming back and knowing he is likely out there watching based on the Ornament he left.

The toys in this movie are basically the ones from Demonic Toys with some of the attributes changed around. The obvious Jack Attack expy gets Grizzly Teddy's weird size powers, the Grizzly Teddy expy is biting people's faces like Jack Attack. The Mister Static expy (robot) is givin Baby Oopsy's scissors and penchant for stabbery. There's even a doll that shows up, it just isn't a BABY doll.

I think Krampus (2015) is a good horror movie. I enjoyed it and loved it. But not as much as Black Christmas (1974). Is a good horror Christmas movie for every Christmas to come. I can enjoy it. My grandma is from Austria and told me about Krampus when I was a kid, before he got plastered all over the internet, and while this film has its flaws, it's a good enough representation of the story, as well as a ton of fun!
