Most GOW fans are adult now which is why a gag that entertained kids in edgy phase can be discussed with more mature view. Fans remember first games and appreciate the reminisce and character growth. However he does admit how he cared deeply for pandora and is extremely regretful of her fate, he talks about how she reminded him of his own daughter and that she saw through him and her words reached him like few others could. At the end of the DLC he even repeats what pandora told him about hope, that it’s what makes people strong and what they fight with when all else is lost.

A lot of ppl dont like this "soft" kratos but i think it shows he really has the wisdom that came with his godhood, hes thought about his past and cant escape it so hes doing his best to reconsile with himself and take a second chance
