I'll be honest, after absolutely loving Gloom of Kilforth, I more or less bounced off subsequent releases from Hall or Nothing. To be clear, I liked the re-themes of Gloom, but didn't feel the need to own them. Like you, I also didn't really enjoy Veilwraith either - it just didn't grab me but the mechanics were at least a bit unique. That had me completely ignoring Kreel Manor and it looks like maybe that was a mistake on my part. I'm seeing what looks like a bit of an evolution in his design and it has me quite interested - enough to order a copy. Thanks for taking the time to make this and drawing me back into the fold!

Totally! Veilwraith was so hard for me to get into because I just couldn't connect to the theme and setting at all. I had no idea why I was doing anything, beyond simply playing a pretty good card game. This addresses those criticisms, and more.

I think Shadows of Kilforth is worth it for the increased variety of enemies, locations, allies etc, plus the additional character creation options. It's a lot easier to integrate with Gloom than Call of Kilforth, since Call adds a bunch of new resource mechanisms and a new type of location. Shadows isn't necessary but it's good to have IMO.

After trying to get into Gloom/Shadows of Kilforth, I feel like Hall’s games are basically super mechanically dry games covered with lavish fantasy art. I look at them and want to play them, but when I’m playing them it feels like there’s no thematic/narrative connective tissue, just a bunch of roguelike tasks.

this look an interesting game but the DA...let's say it is not my cup of tea. Still love you review that show what you like in a calm and not pretending to be objectif. IMHO i think it is easier to project what will do or not in the game this wat

I present information about the game, things I enjoy and any criticisms, and then let people take that information and do with it what they will. Same mechanics, same regurgitated art, well overpriced means I finally didn't get this one and I think I'm done with their games sadly coz the art is amazing but repeated for years, gameplay is never great too.
