Paganini marinated in Gewürztraminer! LOL, Fritz. You can take the man out of Vienna, but you cannot take Vienna out of the man. Love you, Fritz.

This man never faked in his life. His technic was superb. This was his own arrangement. If you think he could not play the origianal version you are delusional.

If it weren't for you I would never have heard this - thanks. It is very unusual and very pretty in some parts. Not only can one hear Kreisler's charm but the effort as well. My teacher told me that he seldom practiced. This is a gem nonetheless.

how amazing... anyway we have quite a few good accurate recordings of authentic Paganini Concerto n1, there is plenty of room for this...room isn't the right word ; this is in a charm of its own and does not need to be justified. It is very charming and elegant

For those who are too young to listen his live concerts, these recording is probably the most accurate Kreisler sound we could ever find. Regarding the double stopping of Heifetz and Kreisler, I hear the former play two violins while the latter one string one violin. However, both of them are perfect in intonation.

This was a way of introducing Paganini to the public at a time when this concerto was rarely played and almost unknown. The arrangement suited the public taste at the time. The orchestration is much richer than Paganini's and the interpretation concentrates on musicality rather than virtuosity, which is much more common, especially nowadays

For me, it sounds like Violin Part by: Paganini Orchestration by: Alan Silvestri

I had to go Google "Alan Silvestri" myself, and I still don'y know him from a hot rock; but as long as you recognize the violin music is unmistakably Paganini, then you are on the right track. :~)

He was such a genius that he cold hold violin and bow like an amateur in his late life. :-) Of course, if you know how to play, you can see he's not really an amateur. He's just from Vienna. :-) And he was able to change the first movement of the famous Paganini- Concerto Nr. 1 to something totally different, without changing any important phrase in the violin part, just by changing the orchestral part.

I wonder who did the orchestration here, because it's so much more fun than the original (which is cr.p). The orchestra sounds very colorful, like holywood movies orchestras used to sound back then.

No. He never recorded it, unless there's an original matrix in a landfill in New Jersey, which is what happened to many of them when new technology came along making them obsolete. That's why there's only on set of disks from his Bruch g minor session.

Splendid! This is the closest version to the way Paganini himself played these concertos ... the modern editions and recordings all give a major contribution to the orchestra so that It's closer to a symphony than a violin concerto .. so incredible, so indescribable, so untalkaboutable.

I disagree with that assessment, +Zan Huang. This is totally at the heart of Paganini's mellifluous, pretty tunes with which he filled his compositions. That the excesses introduced by later violinists in a misguided effort to excel through the most grotesque circus acrobatics-as grotesquely exemplified by the likes of Ruggiero Ricci et al.-have molded your limited view of Paganini is the problem. Imagine if Rakhmaninov (Rachmaninoff) had similarly not recognized this rhapsodic side of Paganini's music, his Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini would have not come to be.
