This « Kren kren plasas » recipe comes to us from Sierra Leone and is made with this famous slimy leaves whose name it bears and which are favorite throughout a large part of Africa.
This dish is one of those done for the « awujo » feast (ceremonial feasting for the dead in remembrance of them or to secure their blessing on a family occasion) and emanating from the Yoruba traditions in Sierra Leone’ Krio society.

In Sierra Leone, when kren kren is boiled and cooked separately from the « alakpa » (the rest of the stew/another stew generaly [dried] with tomato or even groundnut) to better retain its green property, and then blended together when the meal is consumed, it’s a variant dish specialy called « Obiata ».
It is obvious that, having been a staple Egyptian food since the time of the Pharaohs, this is a typical African staple just like okra and similarly comes with many variations.

Ce plat fait partie de ceux préparés pour les cérémonies « Awujo » (un festin cérémonial pour les morts en leur mémoire ou pour assurer leur bénédiction lors d'une occasion familiale) et émane des traditions Yoruba dans la société sierra-léonaise Krio.

En Sierra Leone, lorsque le kren kren est bouilli et cuit séparément de l'« alakpa » (le reste de la sauce/une autre sauce généralement [sèche] avec de la tomate ou même de l'arachide) pour mieux conserver sa propriété verte, puis est mélangé avec lorsque le repas est consommé, c'est une variante de plat spécialement appelée « Obiata ».
Il est évident que, ayant été un aliment de base égyptien depuis l'époque des pharaons, il s'agit d'un aliment de base typiquement africain, tout comme le gombo, et il existe également de nombreuses variantes.
