But he knew gohan had the power to do it, that’s why Goku didn’t want to be revived because he knew wasn’t going to be around forever to be relied on and they would need to be able to take care of them selves at some point. That’s how DBZ was supposed to end but obviously it didn’t. Even in the buu saga Goku was reluctant to use his full power while dead because he didn’t want to bail them out again. He taught the fusion technique to goten and trunks so they could take of buu instead of him even though he probably could’ve killed buu if he actually tried instead of killing time for trunks to get the radar

I love that others are noticing the things I noticed even as a child. Things about Gohan’s arrogance. I love the soundtrack playing while Goku is yelling at Gohan to end the fight. The focus on Gohan’s face when he smirks with the unsettling music, as a kid I remember thinking “Gohan… don’t do this.. don’t be like this.” That’s like the first time a character kinda scared me, in a way if that makes sense.

Thing to me is. I don’t find what gohan did as arrogance. I look at it as gohan gave him the chance to not be bad or stupid. But once cell pushed him to far, he decided to say ok now u gonna pay in all ways humiliation style. I even think gohan wasn’t gonna kill cell. He wanted to humiliate him so bad that cell gives up and maybe goes good. My one reason thinking this is because of what happens in next episode. Like 16 said earlier gohan doesn’t like to hurt. To me it is his mercy as well as wanting to humiliate cell that almost costs him. And he does pay a hefty price for what he did. Just my personal take

It is shown by all the Sagan’s except future trunks imo and that is only because he has seen the destruction caused so he had a better head on his shoulders. I think the cockiness and arrogance is a way to nerf them a little as a drama factor otherwise the baddies would be beat fast.

14:58 I like this moment with Gohan. It's sort of confirming what Piccolo warned Goku about. What's interesting about this whole entire subject is that both Goku and Piccolo are right about Gohan. And yet they're both wrong about him as well. Goku was correct at the fact that Gohan had a hidden power. And Piccolo despite underestimating Gohan was right on the fact that Gohan is not a fighter and doesn't thirst for battle like Goku does. Goku naively assumed he is my son therefore he can handle this ordeal just like I could. When Goku became Super Saiyan for the first time he was angry but he managed to get it under control over time while fighting Frieza. But Gohan's not like that.... 14:58 Now he is blinded and vengeance has taken hold of Gohan and he won't finish off an opponent because he hasn't *suffered enough.* That was a very dark place for that kid and it scared the hell out of him. This is exactly why Gohan didn't want to unleash his hidden powers. Not only because he didn't know how too, but because he was afraid of it. Now that Gohan has the edge he's way too overconfident. He doesn't fear that if you push a desperate animal (Cell) into the corner, the worst of any situation could happen.... Or he might do something crazy. I won't say nothing further for spoilers ahead.

It was obvious at this point that Gohan was letting his power go to his head. Had he powered up another Kamehameha wave while Cell was still trying to regenerate, he could have easily vaporized him. But it was clear that his youth, his newfound power and his inexperience were overwhelming his logic. You always go for the throat, not toy with your food. If you do, you may end up regretting it.

As a kid watching for the first time, I remember being in awe of how strong Gohan became. Now as an adult, I can empathize and see just how angry he is in this fight. I used to see this episode as Gohan showing off in arrogance but now see it as his rage completely consuming him.
