WE used to play this game all the time, but when my cousin who played it with us died 10 years ago, Mom in mourning, put the game away, and would not touch it or allow it to be taken out. But a year after my cousin's death my sister gave birth to her only son, my youngest nephew. He is 9 now, and she saw him playing a different version of Mario Cart on the Nintendo DS, so Mom had me drag the old N64 out, and we hooked it up so my Nephew could play on it. He was here a couple of weekends ago, and then again for all of Labor Day weekend; for a 9 year old he has gotten very good at it, and loves to play his Uncle in Battle. It is so nice the JOY has come back to the game with a new generation. I was 28 when the game was released to the N64, now I am 50. Mom is 70 and can still play the game, which shows it spans across generations in appeal. My cousin grew up with us along with his brother and sister when he came and was 8 years of age. In 1992, the Nintendo NES came out and it was a gift to my cousins and his siblings, and so Mom got me playing the original Mario Kart when I would visit. Later, while living in Nashville, I came across the N64 and began playing it and brought it home and taught Mom how to play the N64 Mario Kart. Remember the first time I fell of an edge in the 3D game on the 25 in TV, felt my stomach drop. it still looks good on the 50 in HDTV all these years later. I love my Mom, I remember when I was 14, she said, "I just don't get video games, I do see why people play them!" Then the summer my cousin and his siblings showed up, I worked extra hard to make life easy at home when I was just 15, and so for all my help in keeping the house clean, the garden weeded and harvested, Mom and Dad bought me the Atari 5200 for Christmas in 1983. Mom learned to play "Q-Bert" on the Atari 5200 when she was 35 and never again said, "I just don't get video games!" LOL! Mom was very good at Contra too back in the day on the Nintendo NES when we had it as well as the original Mario Kart.

This is beautiful. I was born in the year 2000 and even though I wasn't born in the late 1900's when the N64 released, I still feel some nostalgia from playing this game on my friends N64.

I love this! My Mom and I used to play Contra 2-player, and we got so good that we could go through the game multiple times in one sitting. We'd throw on the 30-lives code, but eventually we didn't need it 'cause we'd be sitting on 40+ lives each at a certain point.

I await the day when my youngest Nephew is a Tween in another 5 years, and then I will introduce him to Mario Kart 64, and once again, the game will live at least a decade more before I put it away for good. May even give it to him as an inheritance if he grows to take care of the stuff he owns with great care. I'll also have to teach him how to play Smash Brothers! His three older Nephews, now all adults, had become so proficient at it as children, they were nearly impossible to beat!

Even the desire to be "logical" is an emotional one. No one is free of having emotions or having them tie them to good memories and good times. Since this is a multiplayer format that requires the players to be together, it naturally builds the good emotions. Not many games do that, either being too violent and little on fun or being restricted to single player format or multiplayer online but not in the same room. Only Smash Brothers came as close in being this much fun for group play live.

Mario Kart 64 will always hold a special place in my childhood. It was the first videogame I remember ever playing. Would play it often with my dad. I'd be Toad and he'd usually be Wario but sometimes Yoshi. The Star Cup was brutal to us. For the longest time neither of us could quite get the gold trophy in it. We'd even go as far as teaming up, protecting each other from the other racers. But still, we couldn't do it. But then finally, when I was 11 I think, I beat the Star Cup. My placings were 1st, 2nd, 2nd, and 3rd in the races with a score of 24 points. So I only barely squeezed out the win, but still got it, and by myself at that. The sheer awe and pride I felt watching these credits roll is a feeling I won't easily forget, even now as I'm 20. The Star Cup was the first real hurdle in a videogame for me, the first real mountain that I managed to climb.

i still remember where i was a little child and made it the first time with 150 ccm. i was so shocked that there was an ending theme that i was totally flashed. And then the mirror mode. That was a good day. Forever in my memories.

Just played Mario Kart 64 today, completed Star Cup 150c and all the Mirror Cup races and got to experience the end credits again after so long. Brought back so many memories of my childhood and I almost teared up during the credits because of the music. :') Happy times.

It's not the graphics that make a game a legend, nor is it the awesome reviews. It's the memories that you have and share with others that make a game truly special. I have MILLIONS of memories from this game, and I've saved my N64 just for Mario Kart. I still play it and I still remember those fond memories.

A perfect ending theme to what has been a wild four years. I graduate from university in 11 days and now I’m finally going to complete a journey where I was doubted and brought down so many times but in the end, I stood up strong.

This was gaming’s golden age. When 3D became more than just a thought, but a reality. PS1, Sega Saturn, & lastly, N64. It was when bright, vibrant colors took landscapes & imaginations ran wild. Where technical limitations ended, imagination didn’t. When gaming music, and artwork had passion, heart & soul. Gamers imaginations could run wild into believing & dreaming more was & is possible, while at the same time being completely over satisfied with the simplicity of the charm & beauty of the overarching theme & game. PS2, DreamCast, Xbox, and GameCube did enhance these as well, and refined them & worked with the quirks of the generation prior, as well as the generations before while great in their own right led up to this one, however in my opinion, nothing compares to this generation. It was all out in front of us in this one.

The musical notes using in this end credits invoke a sort of sad yet joyful conclusion like the end of a long journey, just a beautiful musical work.

YOU VERY GOOD" "SEE YOU NEXT TIME" :""3

What's funny is that this isn't a game with big characters or a big plot. It's just 'the cast of the Mario games show up and race go-karts.' That's it. But this ending is still the one that makes me start crying every time. Because it reminds me of everything I did as the player.
