Kris Kristofferson - Why Me Lord

"Why Me" is an American county and gospel song written and recorded by Kris Kristofferson.
"Why Me" was Kristofferson's lone major country hit as a solo recording artist, reaching No. 1 of Billboard Magazine's hot country singles chart in July 1973. The song, despite peaking only at No. 16 of the Billboard Hot 100, had one of the longer runs (19 weeks) in the Top 40 at that time. As a result, the song managed to be ranked as the sixth most popular Hot 100 single of 1973.
Elvis Presley incorporated the song, titled as "Why Me Lord", into his live shows beginning in January 1974 up until his last concert tour. It was first released on the live album, Elvis Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis in June 1974.
Johnnny Cash also recorded a version of the song in one of his 1970s albums.
Christian Country music, sometimes referred to as country gospel music, is a subgenre of gospel music with a country flair, is also known as inspirational country. Christian country over the years has progressed into a mainstream country sound with inspirational or positive country lyrics

I just read through all the comments on this video and I am encouraged, as a Christian, with the number of hearts who have been deeply touched by this song. To me, Mr. Kristofferson really nailed the message of grace. Certainly salvation is a gift (if you could buy it, it wouldn't be a gift) and no one deserves what God offers freely through Jesus' atoning sacrifice. Praise God for the victory we have in Him.

I died on a gurney November 13 but since I was in the ER and a Cardiologist was there he hit me with the defib and got the blood circulating enough to do a very rapid catheter and angioplasty that opened up the widow maker artery. For some reason this song was in my heart during all the subsequent surgeries. I am now getting strong and I will do what my Lord Jesus Christ wants me to do.

I was sitting in a morning group in a psychiatric hospital that I woke up in. One of the people in the group, a native man with pain and hurt written all over his face, had a guitar and he started playing this and I simply broke down so fiercely that I couldn't even see where I was going as I tried to escape the situation. That was a defining moment in my totally destroyed existence. I'll never ever forget that time nor the man who played the song. Wherever you are J.W., I pray you are well.

I remember this song on the radio when I was 8. I am 55 now with both parents in the grave and I have been saved by the Grace of God for 26 years. This song has been a favorite of mine for many years just took some time before it sank in. I am not religious, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. I, too, have been in that position at least once; sometimes, at our lowest moments, all we can do is cry, raise our hands to Him, and fall on our knees. In my case, I was about 16-17 (this was 15 years ago), and from the time I was 12, I was a very violent and abusive person, staring down possible threat of expulsion from school, as when someone harassed me in any way, I would either spout off profanities out the ying-yang or throw a punch or threaten to punch, kick, choke, or in any way, shape, or form, hurt them the way I had been hurt.

I lost it so badly they had to pick me up off the floor and carry me to my bed. I'm at the cemetery as my Dad, sister DeeDee and now my Mom have all passed. My Mom would listen to the highway men and I couldn't talk when this song was being sung. She loved it. Kevin, If you are concerned about Jesus' mercy, you have already received it. Rejoice and thank him !! If you believe Jesus was the Son of God, died on the cross and returned after 3 days for the redemption of our sin's, you have got "IT". Now foot in do the next right thing to glorify God. Stuff like cutting the grass with a joyful heart, singing praise to God that you are His child who He loves very much.Praying for others no matter how much they have hurt you.(that's a real hard one for me)
