Dear Eileen, I have "worked" for about 7 days on this video alone (I am at low intermediate level but like to challenge myself with content a bit above my level) and I will watch it again several times. Your channel is the greatest collection of material for learning Mandarin, I want to thank you for your awesome work. The video was not only full of very useful vocabulary, but also 这个是非常重要的话题。我学了很多的事情关于中国的米兔运动。This MeToo movement is one of the most important movements of the last years in the whole world! So thank you also for bringing it up. 多谢你们!

Amazing how many people are so delusional about celebrities they have to blame the victim no matter the evidence. Its so frustrating.
@extremepsyche31353 жыл бұрын
Given the number of false accusations going on, you can't blame people for being skeptical until there is a conviction. The jury should be the judge of who is guilty - not the mob.
@liyuqi80923 жыл бұрын
@@extremepsyche3135 I get that but there's skeptical and then there's delusional. Sure don't believe the victim at first, but there's no need to cyberbully them and threaten them. Even when he was arrested erratic fans wanted to go to jail alongside him. There should be a rational limit to how far a fan is willing to go for another humanbeing. You can put a celebrity on a pedestal, but it's unreasonable to thing of them as above everyone else like they're a deity.

Thank you for the explicit explanation. Glad that MeToo movement now exist and effective in China. The victims finally get their fair treatment. Sexual predators without valid consent must be severely punished for the sexual crime they committed to innocent unsuspected victims. Victims' lives are permanently destroyed by their criminal senseless filthy acts.

To comment on this topic, it is important to consider the legal context and evidence available. In modern law, infidelity itself is generally not considered illegal. However, it's crucial to note that legal systems vary across jurisdictions, so it's necessary to examine the specific laws in the relevant jurisdiction. : )

The topics discussed in this lesson are heavy, but very important. Eileen & Yifei are both very well-spoken & executed the discussion well. Yifei's major is very unique & interesting. What school did she study at? I love this lesson style. The notes that clarified certain slangs & terms were very helpful. Terms like "Perfect victim" flawlessly narrates the pressures & expectations put on women who come forward with their assault. 我希望 more celebrities & public figures will be held accountable for their illegal actions & that their disturbing behavior will continue to be addressed. I also hope that justice will be served for all the women affected.

not exactly, they just translated it succinctly. in traditional (because I can't really read simplified): 而且 moreover 還 (she) also 被很多人 by a lot of people 就是 precisely (i think you want to think of this as a way to emphasize something) 進行 carried out/proceed 網路 internet 暴力 violence So a more literal translation might be "at the time she also was the victim of mass internet bullying"

For the girls other than the unconscious one I am a little unsure what is meant by "manipulation", "sexual exploitation" and "abusing power difference". He basically slept with them and didn't call, right? Or is there something more to it that I don't understand?
@krissykrissylove3 жыл бұрын
Exactly what I was thinking. So ghosting is a crime now???
@jivvyjack77233 жыл бұрын
No, ghosting is not a crime. I think the fact that some or many of the victims were underaged played a big part. In many countries, sleeping with an underaged person is automatically considered "rape" even if the victim is fully conscious of what she was doing. The law deems underaged persons as "children" and hence not capable of fully understanding the situation and consequences of their actions and hence require protection from the law. Some of the victims might indeed be exploiting the situation or knew exactly what they were doing, but that would still not excuse him. Regardless of whether the victims were of age or underaged, luring them into compromising situations with tricks or on false pretences or by extortion is despicable. "Power difference" - that just means a relationship where one person has power or authority over the other. That's why a boss-employee, teacher-student, adult-child, and here, celebrity-fan, relationship is frowned on. As usually, the weaker one really no equal negotiating power with the other. And the person is the "power" position is expected to have a duty of care for the other.
@ألاءعبدالله-ز6ج3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was just thinking the same thing.. After all, all the girls would have been happy to sleep with him over and over if it was a long relationship, their only complaint is that turned out to be a one night relationship. Well, that's not rape.
@thoughtpolease71833 жыл бұрын
@@jivvyjack7723 Thanks for the response. I can totally see the power problem in the case of boss-employee or teacher-student, because they have a direct influence over them, e.g. "I really need a B on math.... please?". But for celebrity-fan, I think it is different. If I am in love with my partner, I do admire them, and am essentially their "fan", which you could say makes me vulnerable, or even exploitable (if they don't love me back very much). You can't expect relationships to be equal in power, there is often one who is more in love. This is a very difficult situation for the vulnerable person. Indeed love is not easy, and can just as bad as it feels good, even when you are with you partner, for example if you are jealous or worried that they might leave you. To the more "powerful" partner, it can feel "clingy" or "needy" which makes them distance themselves more. It's very common
@joelrichmond62563 жыл бұрын
Fr man…. The whole thing is just too fishy. My verdict: the guy kris wu is just a player and those girls only accused him because their relationship with him ended shorter than they wished it would’ve been. So being a player is a crime in China? Interesting

I'd say we shouldn't treat the works of someone differently just because of this person's crimes. At least, if his behavior didn't affect his works in some obvious and easy noticeable way. THIS SHOULD BE MANDATORY LESSON FOR EVERYONE IN HIGH SCHOOL. IT OUTLINES THE MAJOR ISSUES THAT FEMALES FACE WHEN "SEXUALLY HARRASSED, ASSAULTED OR RAPED." I AM A MAN AND KNOW THAT MEN GENERALLY LACK EMPATHY FOR FEMALE VICTIMS. AS A MAN I DO NOT WORRY ABOUT BEING RAPED OR ASSAULTED. THATS WHY IT IS SO HARD TO EMPATHIZE WITH WHAT HAPPENS TO WOMEN. SO, OBVIOUSLY, IT WILL HAVE TO BE A UNITED FEMALE MOVEMENT TO DEMAND GIVING SEX-ASSAULT VICTIMS A VOICE, TERMS TO DEFINE THE ASSAULT AND LAWS THAT VALUE A WOMAN'S BODY AND INNER INTEGRITY. THE FIRST DEFENSE AGAINST ASSAULT CHARGES IS TO ATTACK THE VICTIM. IF SHE IS NOT PERFECT EVERY FAULT, EVERY MISTAKE SHE'S EVER MADE WILL BE USED TO DISCREDIT HER. OF COURSE, "SLUT SHAMING" IS A POWERFUL ATTACK AGAINST A VICTIM: SHE SEDUCED HIM, SHE'S PROMISCUOUS ETC. ETC. ALL OF WHICH HAS NO BEARING UPON THE FACT SHE WAS RAPED, ASSAULTED OR HARRASSED. THESE ISSUES SILENCING WOMEN WHO HAVE BEEN ASSAULTED ARE MAGNIFIED IN EASTERN CULTURES WHERE IT IS HORRIFYING AND A GREAT TABOO TO TALK ABOUT SEX ISSUES PUBLICALLY. HOWEVER; CULTURES EVERYWHERE USE "SLUT-SHAMING' TO SILENCE VICTIMS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT. A LATINA WOMAN TOLD ME OF BEING RAPED. THE FIRST THING SHE SAID TO HER RAPIST WAS "PLEASE, DON'T TELL MY NEIGHBORS!" SHE KNOWS HER CULTURE WILL CALL HER A "SLUT" AND BLAME HER. HER REPUTATION WILL BE DESTROYED AND NO DECENT MAN WILL MARRY HER. THE LATIN CULTURE IS HEAVILY CATHOLIC AND CATHOLICS WORSHIP THE VIRGIN MARY--THE IDEAL OF WOMANHOOD: VIRGINITY. MIDDLE EASTERN CULTURES HAVE "HONOR KILLINGS" WHICH INCLUDES KILLING RAPE VICTIMS BECAUSE THEY DISHONOR THE FAMILY BY BEING "CONTAMINATED" THROUGH RAPE. THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUES IN THE WORLD BUT IT WILL BE WOMEN THAT MUST MAKE THEIR SOCIETY VALUE THEM BECAUSE MEN GENERALLY DON'T CARE. THAT IS WHY MEN SO EASILY ASSAULT WOMEN IN THE FIRST PLACE.
@carolcunningham51053 жыл бұрын
As a retired social worker specializing in sexual abuse, I saw the same defence used when the victims were children. One even claimed a five year old seduced him against his will. Unfortunately, I also saw this type of defense attacking the victims be successful at times and not just with male jurors, I saw females refuse to vote to convict because the pervert had a sweet smile or a kind face. When we even had a confession. There are so many things wrong with this whole system.

I really believe that your podcast is the best tool for learning Chinese on internet. But I was really surprised this time by the credit your guest gives to the comments from the social media crowd. I don't understand how someone so educated like your guest can be so biased and base her harsh judgments on comments from a raging mob on social media. I am aware that it is not always easy to prove that you are the victim of a crime or sexual abuse. However, it seems dangerous to me to consider someone a criminal solely on the basis of the accusations of an alleged victim, without going through a judicial process. The guest strangely gave me the impression that she found the existence of the judicial court useless in the case of sexual abuse. An almost fanatical way of wanting to put an end to a social problem.
