Krishnadevaraya ranks among India's greatest kings -- by the end of his life he remained undefeated on the battlefield, and had built the Vijayanagara Empire up to the apex of its power and prosperity. Even more fascinating: he was a low-caste king, with perpetual "underdog" status.
Welcome to his amazing, larger-than-life story.
For more on Vijayanagara, check out our other video here: • Rise and Fall of the V...
Special thanks to Srinivas Reddy for his excellent new book on Krishnadevaraya: "Raya"

Quick Correction: Bukka and Harihara were prisoners of Muhammed Bin Tughlaq, not Khilji, who was dead by the time they arrived in Delhi as prisoners. Also, I know, it's a bit cheeky referring to KDR as "India's Greatest King" -- but hey, it's a good conversation starter! (Personally, I think Amoghavarsha and Chandragupta give him a run for his money). Enjoy the video!

@@ArawnOfAnnwn The Tripartite Struggle, also known as the Three-way Struggle for Control of Northern India, was a series of conflicts among the Pratihara Empire, the Rashtrakuta Empire, and the Pala Empire for control over Northern India during the 8th to 10th centuries CE. In the end, none of the three empires emerged as the clear victor. The struggle resulted in significant territorial gains and losses for all three powers, and the political landscape of Northern India continued to shift in the centuries that followed. KDR had made many mistakes which later became the cause of the empire to befall. 1. Bad design of forts for not inculcating the heavy artillery 2. Killing his own PM and father figure and his family, accepting his mistake later of doing so, all his lords saw this as greatly disheartening while Rama Raya sides seemed more and more appealing 3 . Act of kindness for letting the civilians leave in richur and later plundering the whole sultanate, his impulsiveness was seen as unjust and at the same time threatening for all the other sultanates of vijaynagar. 4. And later not reassuring them nor weakening rather he allowed them to strengthen themselves and when later Ram Raya also started playing one Sultan against other it backfired horribly and subsequent invasion marked the end of vijaynagar

India is really a (sub) continent because it was composed of many nations and kingdoms not all one nation a culture like its portrayed by Western media just like Africa is portrayed as one big country instead of as the 2nd largest continent with the most diverse population and cultures in the world.

Your research on topics is very well. Which node to pick up from a story and follow on is also good. But I found the background music the sound effects used too much. I think that these are cheap tricks used by people when their content can't hook peoples. Your content and delivery is already very good. You don't need the high node music and those sound effects of "heyyy". Keep doing what you love :)

The Best Indian History KZbinr. PERIOD. On a side note, I was wondering how you do you research and draw the clothing, jewelry, armor, architecture, furniture, and more to be accurate with the people of that time period you are representing? To depict the nuances accurately is very difficult, so how do you do it?

I think there was something to KDR’s low caste status influencing his approach to being king/emperor. Because he was an outsider and had to always be a maverick he often engaged in bold, often foolhardy and reckless behavior like sneaking out and to see a prostitute and marrying her; making rash and impulsive decisions. Eventually, he cost his successors his kingdom because he killed the one man who was always in his corner and he alienated the Sultans to the North who eventually turned on him.

One of the most underrated Kings of India, outside of Karnataka he is not celebrated enough but in terms of contribution Vijayanagaram empire as important as Marathas for medieval India and Kirshnadevaraya is as important as Chatrapathi Sivaji Maharaj.

One of the greatest king devaraya 2 of sangama dynasty from karnataka ( vijayanagara) empire, he was the most powerful emperor in india during his time. At great extent Empire from coastal maharashtra to srilanka & to kalinga & over lordhip in & received tributes from pegu in burma & tannesarium in Thailand.

Vijayanagar empire never ruled any part of Sri Lanka. Tamil Kingdom of Jaffna who ruled roughly Northern province of Sri Lanka was a vassal state of Vijayanagar empire from about 1374 CE to 1450 CE. Sinhalese king Parakramabahu VI of Kingdom of Kotte invaded Kingdom of Jaffna in 1450 CE. Kingdom of Kotte's conquest of Jaffna marked end of Vijayanagar's vassalization of Jaffna. Kingdom of Jaffna revived in 1467 CE because Kingdom of Kotte weakened due to war of succession. But Vijayanagar empire never recovered it's influence on Kingdom of Jaffna again. Parakramabahu VI's inscriptions in Jaffna and Munnesvaram proof his successful campaign against Kingdom of Jaffna which backed by Vijayanagar empire. Sinhalese king Parakramabahu VI also attacked some South Indian ports of Vijayanagar empire with help of Ming dynasty. Since I can't provide evidence about Parakramabahu VI's attack of ports of Vijayanagar empire this moment, I would leave it. But Myanmar and Thailand paying tributaries to Vijayanagar empire doesn't feel real. Myanmar and Thailand had powerful empires. They won't pay tributaries to a South Indian empire.

@@worlddata8982 during devaraya 2 of sangama dynasty vijayanagara empire, under the naval commander lakkanna dandesha invaded srilanka completely & extracted tributes large boots & made them to acknowledge the heir suzeranity, even many nayakas & commanders of vijayanagara empire were ruling srilanka, the portuguese itself has mentioned in their records it was a part of Karnataka empire & ruled by Karnataka kings, because the official name of the vijayanagara empire was Karnataka empire, Not the whole part of burma or Thailand , I mentioned only pegu & tannesariam were part of their control overlordship, it has been even mentioned by italian travelers. just like portuguese had goa & France had pondicherry & Mahe in india under their control,

There was no person named Timmarusu, it was Timmarasa not Timmarusu as per Epigraphical records (even found in Andhra) and chronicles, he was known as Timmarasa, Timmayya in inscriptions and Temersea in foreign chronicles which is equivalent to Timmarasa, Timmarusu is no where found in any record thus through Telugu movies and propaganda in many secondary sources it became Timmarusu even if the name like this never existed Also, Hakka Bukka being Kakatiya generals is highly exaggerated and these stories are just narratives and no epigraphical record support this, Hakka Bukka themselves claim as successors of Hoysalas in inscriptions, who replaced the Kingdom soon after its fall with the inscriptions of both dynasties found at the same place during its rise From internal Inscriptions to literature and external sources to Muhammadans, they all call the empire as 'Karnataka" not Vijayanagara which was just the capital
