Thank you for conforming that term. Ppl were arguing online saying the white man gave us this name in a negative way. Love your explanation cause am in my 6th month of my dreadlocks. I am a warrior Queen✊🏿

It's so sad to see the desire to be oppressed when I see African American making the claim that it's a negative thing to say dreadlocks and even going so far to say every bit of historic cases of locks being a hairstyle before the mau mau warriors didn't exist nor happen. People are literally insane with wanting segregation instead of accepting our multicultural world we live in that is as mixed as a paintbrushes cleaning water

I like to call mine 'elfknots' because that's the Celtic name for them. According to Celtic folklore, if you wake up with tangled locks of hair it's because fairy folk have been playing with your hair while you were asleep... and it's considered bad luck to comb them out. :)

This is some good information! This reminds me of the name of the warship class "dreadnought", it came from the description of the ship itself, someone (sorry, forgot their name) said that whoever was on this ship would fear nothing because they were so powerful, so we have fear=dread, and nothing=nought. So both of these terms are war related, dreadlock is army and dreadnought is navy, not saying sailors couldn't have dreadlocks, of course.

Awesome it's awesome you are teaching.... much respect there is so much more for people to learn about the dreadlocks and the ways of life and where and why they are worn in some places dreadlocks are worn out of respect love and fear to the almighty Jah.... people act like they are blind because they judge things they know nothing about and instead of educating them self they choice to stay blind.

That's very sad. Using one people to kill another people. Black warriors v Native American warriors. At least Bob Marley brought it to people's attention. A lock of hair has been around for a long, long time in a romantic way. Cutting off a little lock of hair and sending it tied in a bow to a loved one as a token of that love or even, in Victorian times, cutting off a lock of hair from a dead person to keep something personal close to you. Both were put in a locket or a brooch.

After traveling months on ships with no hygiene available, it's unsurprising that their hair appeared matted and locked. It's said that slave owners referred to the "dreadful" sight of the captives, thus the term "dreadlocks" and its negative association Dread refers to fear some so they were scared to even touch our hair bc to them it looked hideous I HAVE 9ETHER Locs is the best term

@@Prissilla yes but you will loose a lot of hair. A lot of hair that would have broken off is still stuck inside the locs. Ones you release them they will break of.
