Thank you guys for being here today! I'm trying something completely new, and I'm signing up to do our small town farmer's market! I will be selling antique and vintage pieces that we no longer need in our home, and I'm looking for some fun pieces to fill out our booth.

If you aren’t paying monthly for a booth in a mall then I wouldn’t worry about making 3 times what you paid for an item. That is actually pretty hard to do. I have an antique booth that I pay rent for and commission so I do have to be careful. Sometimes though I feel lucky if I can double my money. You will eventually get a feel for how to price things and what is actually going to sell for you. Don’t get discouraged. Much of the time I’ve noticed people start out asking too much for their items. I would start somewhat low and then after you get a feel and build up a base you can increase prices gradually. Have fun!

I agree with this. I resell online and with fees and everything I’m happy to get just double what I paid for something.

My husband carries a handkerchief on daily basis. He just prefers them. I prefer accidentally washing a hankie left in a pocket to washing a wad of Kleenex, so it works out. Ladies used to carry them and some of them were quite lovely. I have seen buntings/banners made out of vintage ones.

Mark your items up higher than you think you can get for them. You will be surprised what you can get. Plus you can negotiate 👍 I've had an antique booth for years and its a good system.

Then there’s people like me who’s too afraid to even try to negotiate and make someone mad and just buy it at the price lol

I managed a thrift store and we would shop garage sales and goodwill for wood items, chalk paint them and sell them for more than 3X the cost. It would be a fun summer activity for your girls to do with you. One coat, no sanding or primer. Off white sold really well. You can distress them with sandpaper if you like. It is really fun and easy.

Maybe your girls would want to play with that cute ironing board. I have mine from when I was a little girl still. My mom use to put up a little wash line outside for me and I’d wash my doll clothing and hang it up and then pretend to iron it. Hours of fun outside. I have a little mini laundry basket too. Felt like Laura Ingalls and was a great memory. Love your channel!

Kristen, you are so cute! Lol When I buy something to resell, but start liking it..I have to tell myself that I will always just try to sell it and if it doesn't sell, it's all mine! Lol it helps me to let go a little and make money without risk because I know my purchase will go to use either way. I purposefully will try to purchase items I love for reselling because if I end up with it, it won't bother me and my home. Sometimes, I buy it and enjoy it till its time for the sale. It's like renting! Lol It's like a discipline and a deal I make with myself but it has helped me a great deal.

Hi, the little strainer is for straining tea. I'm going to do the flea market in Underwood, Ia. June 10th for the same reason you are doing the Farmer's Market! It's been going on for 9 years but this is my first time to do it. I live in Omaha and attend a Pentecostal church. So enjoy watching you. Would be neat to get together some time and share ideas and knowledge. God bless your adventure at the flea market and I pray you will do well.

You found some wonderful items, Kristen! Regarding the vintage linens, I must be an old soul, because I love them. I keep a couple of vintage hankies in my purse because they're beautiful and useful. There are times when I need a hankie and if folks want to think I'm "old fashioned" then so be it. When I was a kid, my mom always kept her hands busy in the evenings by taking the ordinary things and making them beautiful by sewing, embroidering or crochet. I still have a few of the things she made. I can't part with them because number one, she made them, and number two, I know the hours she put into creating them. So, when I find extraordinary linens that I know are handmade, I will get them because I can't stand to think of them ending up at the landfill. I enjoy your channel and am excited for you in that you're trying something new with the Farmer's Market. Go for it and see where it leads!

It was such a deja vu to see the toy ironing board. I'd totally forgotten about the one I had as a very small child. It didn't have the padding, of course, but it did have those notches on the bottom to stand it up. I had a toy red and silver iron too. Thanks for jogging my memory. Funny about the hankies. My cousin brought me some from France a few years ago and I used one just yesterday. I was at an outdoor wedding (with the same type of runny nose you have) and it was the only thing that fit in my very small purse.

You should have got those little crocks and the little rocking chair for kids, so cute! Sometimes you might get more $ for one item than another so it all balances out so don’t be afraid to get something if it’s a little bit more because another item might be free or ridiculously cheap. There’s nothing wrong with making money AND being in the community, I’d price it according to the going rate on items. Don’t be too cheap, it’ll take a lot of work to keep stocking a farmers market. I would also just grab a couple of dowels and repair the highchair and that peg hook thing you bought. When you can help support your family it’s a good thing and you can also bless others with tithe
