I ended up with a house Gekko from a package they stowed away in from a friend. They brought him to me in a puddle of cold water inside a plastic cup, nearly dead with a split tail. I was able to save him! His name was McGregger and he was my little buddy for five years. When he died my friend was SHOCKED that he had been alive that long. Rude lol He was a cool little dude. As long as you're not trying to handle them, they make cool little roommates.

Kristenleannimal Yeah I learned that the hard way not to handle :( we have geckos they are invasive in Vegas, and I put some in a tank and held one of them too much one night and he died I think from fright :( I felt horrible!!

I bought 2 feeder rats about a year ago and it was the best decision I’ve ever made, they’re amazing and so friendly, they were skittish for a few days until they realized I was taking care of them

If you spray the suction cups, then push them against the glass with strong force, they will stay put for a very long time! :)

That is a fine set up for those House Geckos! I was first introduced to them in 1987 when visiting Chichen Itza in Mexico. They were all around the lights in the hallways of the motel we were staying in. Came up with a great capture technique. I took a towel, and threw it up and hit the ceiling near them. They would jump right on the towel, and fall down, and my son and I would scoop them up. We were living in nearby Merida at the time, and when we got home, I released them in our house to help with Mosquito Control. My Landlord was so impressed, he sent his kids out to find them to put in his other houses. I have them here in our home in Motul, and the only threat to them is my cat, who enjoys a good chase. But if she catches them, she eats them, sadly. Watch the tails! They will drop them in a second if threatened. Best of luck. The eggs are very cool!

These must be the same geckos I saw in el salvador. I rented a house down there for a week and there were these geckos running around everywhere. During the night they would make this really loud call. Impressive sound for such a small lizard. Also I had no idea lizards can make noises like that. At least i think it was the geckos making the sound 🤔🤔

@@rm25088 Gravity defying wonders!! Love them. Here in the Yucatan, we have only put AC in the Bedrooms and Office/TV Room. The Geckos live in every other room and we love watching them.

If you can, try to get from a breeder or rescue. Buying from stores that sell massive quantities of feeders will just have them replaced with more animals, bred in horrible conditions. At least many people who breed feeder lizards will give them decent care

I love house geckos, one of the things I miss the most about Australia is the sound of those little guys at night. I know they're an invasive species back home, but the sound is just so comforting - ever house gecko I've ever had living in my homes has been called Steven, even if there's multiple geckos they're all called Steven

Also, if you want a good hand mister, look at Walmart, Lowe's, home depot, etc in the garden section. They are dirt cheap and made sooo much better.

Those were both green anoles. One just had turned brown. Green anoles change colors!

Yes it would probably be better that way but the size of her terrarium really doesn’t allow.

If suction cups don't stay where you want them, then wipe down the area with a warm/wet paper towel (so there's no dust or dirt, etc.), and then wipe down the suction cup. Push it onto the spot you want it to be, and it should stay.

Growing up as a kid I got two green anoles from a pet store. They were so tame I'd go outside with them and they'd stay on my shirt lol. Anytime I opened their cage they'd jump on me. Awesome little guys.

I had a house gecko named Sasha that someone found in a Market Basket (I live in the far far north so theres no way it was local) she has since passed away but she was such a lovely little friend to watch that I think I may get some more someday 💚

I live in South Texas where these lizards are VERY common. We see the anoles all the time when we sit outside during the day and my dogs love to chase them. And of course the geckos are out at night eating all of the bugs by the porch light! They're so fun watch. Have fun with them! They're so cute!

When I was in high school I had anoles and house geckos. We lived in a cabin and the walls were made of wood. Then one day one of the house geckos got loose and lived in the walls for months. I would see him every once and a while and could never catch him.

My friend ordered a fireplace from Georgia and one of these little guys was stuck inside the package. He was alive so I went to the pet store and bought him a 20 gal tall cage and some crickets, fruit flies, and mealworms. I would of released him but he wouldn’t survive up here. We named him Georgie :) 🦎

You are such a good person I just rescued 2 iguanas and 1 bearded dragon from being in a bad home I named the bearded dragon Jax! And in his old home he had a RED light and kept it on all day AND night! He was also on SAND!!! I have two geckos, there is a big one and a small one. They are so cool cause they are kinda see-thru. I love them, when I go for my night walks they are outside on my front porch. They are so shy and run so cute to hide.

If you go to the high desert you can f ind tons of "Critter Logs".They are everywhere all over the ground.They are what remains of a real nasty cactus called chollas after they die.All different sizes.Not just the small ones like at the pet stores.

I've been looking for this kind of information everywhere. I mostly kept finding info on mourning geckos cause no one really keeps these I guess. I've lived where I am for like 20 years and suddenly this tiny lizard ran across my living room floor. I thought it might be a baby anole at first but then we caught it. Had never seen anything like it before, so I got to searching and found out it's a wee baby house gecko hatchling. I have him in a mini critter tank while I set up this ten gallon for him. I'm excited to learn more and hoping he does okay. He's sooo tiny it's hard to find food he can actually eat. Starting out I was cutting off bits of wax worm because as small as he is it wouldn't hurt, especially since he wouldn't eat for the first few days, and he was taking it from my tweezers. I've been dropping very smol pill bugs in. Ordering 250 pinhead crickets from a local cricket farm for $10 because the pet stores either never have crickets or they're too big even at their smallest. I'm using Coco fiber substrate sold in dried 8qt bricks. The hermit crab variety is the exact same thing for half the price ($4-5) and you get almost a whole qt more than the one branded for lizards at $10+. Misting occasionally and using a hermit crab heat mat since it's such a small tank for temporary holding. I'm not sure what I'm going to do for humidity in the 10g yet. I have a 25watt 24h nocturnal friendly heat bulb so far, I'm hoping this works out.

Also if you add hooks into the mesh on the lid, you will have somewhere to hang all of the vines and plants from with out using the stupid suction cups that always fall off, or release in my experience they do

Definitely do your own research, but I believe chameleons need a vertical enclosure.

It has to be mesh because they need good ventilation. The best cages are the diy ones, so I recommend you look it up. They’ll need a good misting system since it’s hard to keep the humidity up when you have a mesh enclosure

why go through all of this? make a tank, fill it with pvc tubes for hide spots.. then put some much in a corner and keep it damp for them to lay eggs in... couple ice cubes a day for humidity...
