Are you using custom brushes to get that painty look or do I have my settings wrong because I always just get transparent messes when using pressure sensitive brushes.

With this one, I used my custom brush (don't have it anymore) it's just a square tip with little bit of tilt and mainly it's using color smudge engine (type of brush). That might be either in your tablet settings, make sure you're having whole range of sensitivity, or it can be the brush it self make sure there's opacity setup to max.
