Many people are spooked they never heard the Go Betweens in the 80's. I think the missing link in all this is exposure on Countdown. That was the key to success, mind you Midnight Oil never appeared on Countdown and grew a fan base the very hard way. I feel their music was coming from a future time, and now many years after the songs were written everyone is waking up to the sheer beauty of the band that no one knew in the 80's.

As a kid who grew up in the US in the 80s, listening to New Order, Smiths, & the like, I can't figure out why I never heard the Go-Betweens until much later in life. Still remember first hearing this incredible song back in 2005 on the old courier mail adverts and I wanted to know what this song was and for years that I kept searching into KZbin for "round round" but the search came up next to nothing. Then finally when they opened the go-between bridge in Brisbane 2010 and they announced it on the news while playing this song I remember I finally managed to search this song after getting a proper listen to the lyrics. Thank god I found it and know it's name as now I never get sick of listening to it

I was pleasantly surprised when this little gem popped up in the rather likeable movie "Motherhood" with Uma Thurman, which I saw yesterday on one of the Dutch commercial networks. The film itself was actually more engaging than I expected it would be. And naturally I turned the volume up a few notches or so, (which is okay, taking the fact that I was wearing headphones at the time) as soon as the intro started. You go Go-Betweens!

I love the idea of filming in different cities. The song isn't colloquial in the sense that it aligns itself with any one particular place. This is where Grant McLennan and Paul Kelly part ways in their songwriting technique. This song suggests a broader more spiritual sense of place; an imagined one seen through the prism of memory and the streets of Australian suburbs - brilliant writing and your clip captures it all beautifully. This clip will become more and more aligned with the true theme of the song as time passes.

Wow. Memories. Studios 301, Robert recording 'Clouds' on the roof 10 stories above Castlereagh Street. Grant recording some of his own ideas in Studio D, me sweating about learning that weird desk. Lindy chatting over a cup of tea before going in to do a drum track and fighting her corner against too much Marc Wallace drum machine. A TR-707, IIRC. And Wilsteed, the new boy. Great guitarist. I'm looking at my Les Paul he used on one of the tracks right now. I didn't really speak to Amanda all that much, not sure why. But a fantastic multi-instrumentalist. Maybe it was a Brisbane Mafia thing :D I love this filmclip, I think it captures the song beautifully. I never realised there was the usual industry BS about re-doing it.
