Kriya Yoga and Patanjali

Introductory lecture on Kriya Yoga, held by Peter van Breukelen in Sundhedshuset, Copenhagen, March 18, 2006:
WHAT IS KRIYA YOGA?
Kriya Yoga is an ancient method of living and meditation that cultivates body, mind, intellect, and awareness of the soul using powerful meditative and yogic disciplines. It helps us to experience the three divine qualities of light, vibration, and sound by using techniques of concentration, posture, and breathing. This develops a one-pointed mind, which enables us to penetrate the deepest levels of consciousness and to change our lives. Kriya Yoga teaches that any action, 'kri', is done by 'ya', the indwelling soul. It is a universal spiritual discipline that crosses all divisions and boundaries.
During this introductory lecture on Kriya Yoga, Peter baba is talking about the parallels between Kriya Yoga and Raja Yoga, thereby giving tremendous spiritual insights for any yoga practitioner. Please let us not conflate Kriya Yoga with socialism. Charity and giving are personal and voluntary, each of us serving God in humanity. But when government confiscates resources for redistribution, it is involuntary, akin to theft, and a prescription for inevitable corruption. It is not serving God in mankind. And unintended consequences arise, including a shrunken economic base, an ever growing and corrupt bureaucracy that mostly serves itself, and some form of dictatorship. And the guaranteed income will create dependency on government, not self-sufficiency. The highest overall standards of living in human history have been achieved through free enterprise, not socialism. Free enterprise, with a modest social safety net, serves humanity best. History proves this. The poor need jobs to achieve self-sufficiency (not government). That means economic growth, which socialism destroys, and which free enterprise fosters. Further, Kriya Yoga produces self-sufficiency, not dependency. If we are to promote any social prescription among the poor, let it be self-sufficiency through jobs (economic growth) and Kriya Yoga, not socialism. That said, let us help the needy, in the spirit of oneness, seeing God in all humanity.
