Hey everyone - First of all, I want to thank you for the support and words of encouragement. To say I am overwhelmed by the response is an understatement.
I can’t believe we have surpassed our goal on GoFundMe, and many of you have asked if we will be raising it. While we are still accepting donations, we are leaving the goal as-is until we can get a better assessment of what funds are needed. This is going to be a long road ahead of both cancer and fertility treatments. If at any point we have money left over, I can assure you that we will pay it forward to others who may need it for their cancer treatments.
This has been a crazy week for us. On Wednesday 6/22, we went for a post-op follow up appointment and received the pathology report, which was a lot to process. It turns out that the ovarian cancer I have is quite rare, and I also have (technically had) a second cancer that they believe has been fully removed.
Here is the primary diagnosis I received:
1. Stage III large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the left ovary, locally advanced (serosal and muscularis involvement of the rectosigmoid, para-vesical involvement with encasement of the left ureter). *Note: This one has NOT been fully removed.
2. Synchronous FIGO grade 1 endometrial adenocarcinoma of an endometrial polyp (remainder of the curettings were benign). *Note: They believe this one has been fully removed.
I returned to the hospital on Friday 6/24 for an outpatient procedure to place a stent in my ureter. If you’ve been following us on Instagram, you know that I’ve been experiencing a lot of pain and nausea. After another CT scan revealed that I still have hydronephrosis, I went to a urologist who recommended we have the stent placed. Everything went well and I was able to go home the same night. Since then, I have had a lot of relief from the pain and nausea.
We have also been taking steps to ensure that we can build a family in the future. We began the process of egg retrieval, which starts with 14 days of injections. This is not something I was expecting to go through on top of everything else we have going on, but we need to act fast before they start my treatment.
So, what is next? The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota is currently reviewing my case. I am hoping to hear back from them early this week about making initial appointments and putting together a team to help me fight this thing. I will likely need chemotherapy, additional surgery (possibly a hysterectomy), and possibly radiation.
As you can tell from the information above, this is going to be a long road. The cancer is aggressive, and we are prepared to put up a fight. The best way to follow along for real-time updates is our KZbin Channel at / krocksinthekitchen and Instagram at / krocksinthekitchen .
