Hey Matt. I greatly enjoy your videos; they're always a treat and give a huge amount of new information and perspective on subjects I thought I knew quite well. Krull is a guilty pleasure for me. I remember well the love for the glaive that spread through all fantasy fans, and think so much of the imagery is highly underrated (like the creepy doppleganger in the swamp). The film is one of only a few that really gave me an emotional punch too, and not just once but twice. Trying not to give any spoiler I'll say the first was the outcome of the visit to the widow of the web and the second was a closing rock door. The latter still makes me ache with sadness today, so many decades later. I think you found the right word in "iconic" for the Slayer's death screams and I loved their design with their mirror dome helmets, boney spines and, as you put it, dalek like creature inside. While parts of Krull can quite rightly be called cheesy, and I'm not overly fond of the use of love during the finale, I do think it's a shame that the film didn't gain the recognition it deserves. Do you think that's partly because it came out during a rather large sci-fi boom so fantasy wasn't really what audiences were drawn to at the time? (I know it's got sci-fi elements like the lasers but it's D&D origin is too strong to be drowned out). Please keep finding these gems to share with us, thank you.

+Mind Fiend thank you for your kind comments! I truly appreciate that ! Yep those moments in question still get to me, even today mainly because they are better written and we’re invested in them ! I totally agree I think the mix of fantasy and sci-fi was not received too well back then and it’s a real shame the movie bombed ! But hey it means we can appreciate it all these years later ! Thank you again 👍😎

Thanks very much 👍 I’m afraid my day job keeps me so busy ! That I only have a limited amount of time to prepare and my Reviews and they take along time to produce. One day I may be able to do this full time. 🙏👍

I was twelve years old when this movie was released, so we are in the same age group. I was fascinated by the trailer of KRULL. I liked the idea of sci fi baddies invading a fantasy planet. Though the Beast's forces were more fantasy than sci fi, I still enjoyed the fantastic setting. The cyclops was my favorite character and I was genuinely saddened when he gave his life to save the day.

@zacharyjochumsen9677 Hi, I know it’s kind of interesting because I love lots of Abram’s work, but I can’t help thinking of the fire mares gallop along to a beastie boys song 😂

You're right, for as little use as the Glaive got in the film it is pretty iconic.

really enjoyed this retrospective-it's a film I often saw on the video shelf at my local Video Vault (down in Cornwall) but I never rented it-think I will finally reach out for it now. Great work Mat.

Robbie Coltrane was not dubbed in post production. You just read that on another website that was also wrong.

Many thanks for your feedback mark I do try and make sure all the info in my videos is correct. This is sourced from many outlets websites, making of documentary and articles. This one in question appeared on a few. Including Den of Geek ! Whom I trust implicitly .However I possibly could have said “it is said that” if you believe the quote to be false info ? Many thanks for the comments and feedback

@@MatsMovieReviews Also if you watch the movie closely there is not one moment where his lips don't match. His voice in KRULL is not any different than Coltrane sounds in any other movie. Plus my father produced the movie and this would have come up years ago in conversation had he actually been dubbed.

It is nice that KRULL has this nice cult following. I mean the movie came and went in 1983 and now it has this whole other life!

I was 10 at the time but do not remember this flick at all.....I wonder how many weeks it remained in theatre. 1983 was ROTJ if you were a kid. I do remember Ken Marshall from TV series Marco Polo though which was aired on BBC.
