This was a hoot. I was born in '98, but Twist is still the only jersey I'll likely ever wear. What icons! Thanks for having them on the show, this made my week.

Legends. The game died for me around 2004, when the intensity and aggression disappeared, along with the enforcers. Thanks bettman.

And the first game I ever went to, I saw Twister score 2 of those 27 goals.

Jan 27, 96 vs Tampa? He also got the game winning goal that game :)

@@RIUUI007 Yes. It was a Saturday afternoon game on FOX. Twist scored both goals in a 2 - 1 game.
@RIUUI00711 ай бұрын
@@fantasticvoyage262 I found a couple of newspapers from the day after. Some quotes: Twist earned the game's No. 1 star and dedicated his big game to his family, which includes wife Jocelyn and children Brittany and Christian. "This is really exciting, but I'm not kidding anybody. I'm not playing any differently", Twist said, "I was in the right place at the right time." "Every dog has his day and today was mine. Goal scoring is not really my job. My job is to be a good, defensive, strong-in-the-corners type of player, I don't worry about scoring goals. In the last two games, I've matched my output for my entire career. That's ugly. " "When you're hot, you're hot. He was working and that's what we're looking for", Keenan said, "He played a real tenacious game today and he was rewarded for his effort. We're not looking for scoring from him, but there's no reason he can't contribute some during an 80-game schedule. Every player has a role, and it's a bonus if you can pick up a half-dozen or a dozen goals from them." "It's exciting for everybody when he scores", Hull said, "He's not known for that, if you think the crowd gets excited you should see the guys on the bench. There are 19 guys excited for him." "Our biggest bugaboo has been that the guys refuse to shoot", Tampa Bay coach Terry Crisp said, "In the last month, they just don't want to shoot." Keenan used Twist regularly after his two goals, giving him a chance to get a hat trick. Twist moved up to left wing on the No. 1 line with Shayne Corson at center and Brett Hull on the wing. "Can you imagine that?", Twist said, "Me on a line with Corse and Hull. I've never been on the power play, that was quite an honor. Like I told Al MacInnis, 'When you're breaking out, keep it away from me'." Twist, of course, is known more for his fights than his finesse. He has as many shots on goal this season - six - as he has fights. "No one wants to fight him anymore", Dale Hawerchuk said, "So, we figured he'd better start scoring to get in the headlines again." Moments before his second goal, Twist tried to interest Tampa tough guy Enrico Ciccone in a fight as they battled in front of Puppa, but Ciccone wanted no part of it. That's when Twist scored. "They left him alone in front", Courtnall said, "I passed it toward his stick, and he tipped it in. It's always fun to get a guy like that a goal, much less two." After scoring his second goal, Twist said he was "kind of dumb-founded. I checked my hands to see if they were mine. I asked Brett if he had my gloves. Two points was the only thing on my mind. Getting the two points was the most important thing." The victory pushed the Blues back over the .500 mark with a record of 20-19-8.

When I was a real young kid my dad took me to this taco bell in Manchester. As we are sitting down in my seat I look up and see a big burly man with a mullet sitting across from us and yell "dad look its tony twist!" Dad looked up, chuckled and said "no that's the one Blue who could beat up Tony twist" It was Kelly Chase!

Bob Plager was the guy who signed these two . but you are right - they really didn;;t resemble NHL hockey players - especially Twist . He would get basically one shift a game -- to go fight otherwise he didn't get on the ice.
