KS. Awesome video. Very informative and professional, your production is tops!. . Thanks for sticking with guns and no ranting. Again I am going to snivel a bit. I’m in california and can’t have the glock. I do have the non 2.0 shield and love it. I did some trigger clean up by minor polishing some rough surfaces..... keep up the good work

@@josemary2106 I shot my coworkers m&p shield this last Monday. It's definitely a better shooter than the glock. The grip angle, the trigger, the sights, and the grip texture are all better than the glock 43x/48. But I realized I will most likely never need a CCW gun for shooting at 35 yard steel targets (which we were that day). I will be needing my CCW for 3-7 yards which the glock does great at. I will take the 15+1 capacity of the glock over the better shootablility of the m&p.

Another great video. The Shield has been my edc for quite a while now and I tend to prefer the ergo's of the m&p series over the Glocks. However, the 43x does interest me for it's slightly larger capacity. The original 43 just felt like a afterthought from Glock to me. Think this firearm, along with the 48 fit a nice "between" size for capacity and comfort.

If the be all win all is all about capacity then let us all edc G19's everyday...but EDC , practically speaking, is a lot more than that... There IS such a thing as diminishing returns on this topic...If you carry too bulky of a gun or too many rounds, then your rig becomes heavy, chunky, and uncomfortable. If you lengthen the grip too much then, it becomes less concealable...Then there is COST....Here is where the Shield 9 truly shines in that it always has served as a MADE IN THE USA ...ALWAYS CARRY GUN that answers the frequent asked question "which is the best gun to carry?" Clearly. S&W Shields' answer: "The one you can afford, take with you, and can hit with reliably..." More folks have trusted the Old EDC workhorse Shield to get this done than any other sub compact out there...

I have the 1st gen Shield. It's a great gun in it's own right, and you did the 2.0 justice in this vid. The thing that made me look at the 43x was the wider and slightly more boxy grip, as well as capacity. I finally made the call to buy a 43x and took the chance to upgrade to the night sights. You're right, the stock ones are junk. Holding this gun, it has the feel I've always wanted. My pinky stays on, it fills the palm but not too much, and Shield Arms is releasing a flush fit 15 round magazine in the next month or two. A gun that feels better in my hand and DOUBLES the capacity of my Shield? Yeah, I'll keep the ol' S&W as a bug or deep conceal, but the 43x is my new EDC. Still a good vid, even and balanced comparison. Thanks!

Nice review. I really believe that the S&W 2.0 line of pistols are true "Glock Killers", not the CZ P-10 series. I have been doing a lot of soul searching and side-by-side shooting of the P-10C, G19/23/32 and 2.0 9mm/.40/.357 and am really fond of the 2.0 feel and shootability. The only exception to that, for me, is the G21.4. I think the Glock 21 out performs the 2.0 in .45 due to the dual recoil spring and 3 more rounds. In the end, for me, my EDC is the 2.0 in 9mm and my HD guns are the G21.4 and the 2.0 in .40 S&W. My Summer EDC will most likely be the Walther PPS M2 with the 8-rd mag due to the thinner profile.

I was glad Glock didn't ruff up the grip on the 43x and 48. The last thing I want is 80 grit sand paper rubbing against the inside of my waist all day. For the same reason, I kept my shield 1.0 instead of replacing it with the newer frame design. Also hated the "silver" slide Glock brought to market on the X and 48... And as soon as I saw the traditional finish, I traded. It basically cost me 100 bucks to upgrade to a new gun, without the millennial finish.

A well-tempered and seemingly unbiased approach and presentation is definitely welcome in the gun community. Subbed, keep it up man. I can't stand all these political youtube tough guys that think they're right because they're loud and obnoxious. Anyway, just bought a 43x and I'm very happy with it. I guess it depends on your body size hand size and budget really as to which direction you go. For someone of a significant body mass hiding the 10 round grip length of the G43X might not pose as difficult as it would for someone that is petite in stature. The M&P Shield 2.0 in my opinion is a one size fits all kind of pistol sure it doesn't have the round capacity but in all honesty I really find that to be a negligible arguement when considering a concealed carry weapon. The 100+ year old 1911 has only carried 7/8 rounds in stock configuration since it was designed and so few argued its sufficiency. If you need more than 7 or 8 rounds you are probably in an area you had no business being in to start with. I carried a Model 60 .357 5 shot J-Frame revolver for years and felt more than safe in doing so. Now I'm no Jerry Miculek but I did carry 2 speed loaders incase I needed to do a relatively tactical reload. I think the M&P Shield is the number 1 selling singlestack/subcompact for a reason it carries an acceptable amount of rounds and is the perfect balance of small enough to conceal with excellent shootability. There are much smaller lighter pistols out there that would conceal even better but they are very flippy and uncomfortable to shoot and if something isn't pleasurable to shoot you don't generally spend any real time training with it at the range. That means that in a life or death situation when adrenaline is pumping you are defending yourself with an unfamiliar firearm that you aren't fully competent with and that can be very dangerous in my opinion. I'm not knocking the new Glock offerings but I do find them to be bizarrely configured pistols with questionable appeal. It is kind of in a segment all its own not a full size but not a subcompact either. It is like a G19 on a diet. It will be interesting to see how it is received by the masses over time and what segment they feel it falls in. I think this was a fairly well thought out comparison sir. Thanks for the insight.

Very good points Coiler! I do agree that the Shield is a great balance between concealable and shootable, which is what attracts me most to it. I find it natural to grip and easy to get sights on target. I seen to have to adjust more on the 43X, though I need to give it more time and may end up really digging it as well. The looks don’t bother me as I’ve been a Glock fan for many years. With either way, it’s great that we have so many choices out there. Thank you and cheers!

It isn't nearly the same comparison, but I currently have the original Shield and the G48. At one time I had the G43 and gave it up in favor of the Shield. I think whether you're talking about the G43, G43x, or G48, I'd still take the Shield over the any of them in terms of a carry gun. It's a bit more flexible, and you get more for paying less. I've seen Shields online going for $225 - $300 NEW. I still love Glocks, but S&W really knocked it out the park with the Shield.

Looking at your size comparison, looks like all S&W needs to do is produce a 10 round magazine for the shield(love it) & they are going to be very close in size. Are they making single stacks too big? Look at the M&P 2.0 compact with 3.6 inch barrel & you get 15+1/17+1 & you only gain .3 of an inch in overall length & it’s the same height for a few ounces more then the Glock 43X & it’s a NAIL driver. Have a great day!

I think since the *grip texture* on the 43X is less aggressive than guns like the G19 (G23) or G17 (G22) for a simple & obvious reason. Glock designed a less *"aggressive"* grip texture on the G42, G43, G43X, & G48 on purpose. Why!?! These a CCW handguns designed to be wore everyday, 24/7. Do you want sand paper ruining your clothes &/or rubbing you skin off? *Note:* To say that this grip is "not very good" is to miss the point entirely on what these guns were design for. They are not range guns for paper warriors and they are not full combat guns for the military.
@KSGunGuy01
@KSGunGuy01 5 жыл бұрын
I believe there is a better balance for grip texture and the 43X/48 didn’t get there. I find the Shield to be comfortable all day with a few adjustments here and there, so more aggressive is doable. It’s all personal opinion of course. Thank you and cheers!
@sweetcostarica8714
@sweetcostarica8714 5 жыл бұрын
@@KSGunGuy01 I guess you could say any review of any thing is personal opinion. The thing is... is that opinion an uninformed one or a *well informed one.* What I am saying is *information* is the key to forming correct opinions that lead to the right personal opinion. For example: It is the Army's personal opinion that the SIG 320 is the best gun for them. How did they come to that conclusion? - They asked gun makers to submit samples of sidearms - Testing, testing, & more testing of the samples - The guns that completed ALL the test satisfactory in the testers opinion were two: Glock & SIG - The Army's *personal opinion* now weights in and SIG was picked from the two finishers Lately (past 15 to 20 years) many folks in the gun industry & reviewers of firearms (most are also in the gun industry) have started to focus on grips & triggers on handguns. I never thought this was an issue since most modern guns have fine grips & triggers. So I am sure this focus has to do with making more money for aftermarket companies that keeps the money flowing to everyone. *Not saying it is wrong,* just saying. GRIP - to be or not to be You said KSGunGuy, "I believe there is a better balance for grip texture and the 43X/48 didn’t get there." Grip texture (how aggressive) & trigger (spongy seems to be bad in the industry) is all NOT REALLY IMPORTANT to CCW & Self-defense. Maybe for a long distance snipper, competition shooter, or John Wick but not for the average guy. WHY A handgun for self-defense or CCW can have no grip texture & even a bad trigger and win the fight easily. I say this to buck the recent gun industry promotion on grip texture because it is obvious that looking at all the guns used for self-defense grip texture was closer the mild like the Glocks, G42, G43, G43X, & G48 than the main line Glocks. Examples: - The *guns cowboys & gunslingers* used in the Wild West had mostly smooth wood handles as it was the shape of the handle that kept the weapon in the hand & steady. - Many *1911s* have smooth handles ALL the way around the handle & frame. - *Walter PP & PPK* pistol have smooth handle with little checkering. And that checkering was not aggressive. - *Russian Makarov* pistols had/have smooth fore & aft handles and a not very aggressive side panels/some side panels were smooth. - *Dirty Harry's 44 Magnum* had a mostly smooth handle and that gun could... "blow your head clean off". Most of the guns above were use for a long time and many are known for accurate fire over many other firearms. And all with no or very little grip texture. Yet the guns worked well & hit their target(s). SUMMARY The *grip texture* on a gun is not important at all if you learned to shoot correctly. Also, a good or bad trigger is not so important due to the dynamics of a gun fight. Plus all modern triggers are designed to work well in a self-defense situation.
@KSGunGuy01
@KSGunGuy01 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the thoughts. The military chose the Sig due to money. Considering the amount of issues both civilian and non-civilian shooters have had with the P320, Sig clearly didn’t win because of quality. Not saying they should have chosen Glock, just saying that their choice has proven to be problematic. As for the great list of old guns, you’re implying that advancements in technology and technique stopped with those guns. You and I both know it didn’t. So while those guns were great in those days, they would not stand up to modern standards considering the choices we have now. I do agree that you need to know how to shoot correctly, but having the right tool designed for the right application is important and the 43X and 48 should have been thought out more thoroughly. I’ll say again, it’s personal opinion. That said, look through the comments on videos of those guns and see how many people agree. It’s the same with other reviewers/industry folks... I’ve talked to many. The other Glocks have more texture and they are designed for carry, so why make these two anemic?
@sweetcostarica8714
@sweetcostarica8714 5 жыл бұрын
@@KSGunGuy01 You said, "The military chose the Sig due to money..." and "Not saying they should have chosen Glock, just saying that their choice has proven to be problematic." The U.S. Army’s coveted Modular Handgun System competition was very hard and I heard there was some controversy involving them not completing the tests after the only two gun that passed it were discovered. Anyway the SIG's issue(s) was serious (see link below): August 12, 2017 on nationalinterest.org *The U.S. Army’s New Handgun Is in Big Trouble* The pistol apparently fires when dropped. by Task and Purpose nationalinterest.org/blog/the-us-armys-new-handgun-hot-water-after-multiple-reports-21883 But when 65% of U.S. Police effectively carry Glocks I WILL say the U.S. Army like many other police/militaries *should have chosen Glock.* You say, "...advancements in technology and technique stopped with those guns. You and I both know it didn’t." KSGunGuy, we are taking about *"grip texture"* that has been around since the British Brown Bess. There is nothing advanced about it. Checkering & raised diamonds for a solid grip are pretty simple concepts to understand. *Besides,* Glock, Inc. knows all about the need for grip texture is on their guns. How much is the question. Do you really think Glock, Inc. made a mistake and accidentally on the G42, G43, G43X, & G48 made the grip texture too low & weak? Really? As I already mentioned, Glock, Inc. for the sake of *ease of carry,* made their CCW guns less aggressive in grip texture *so not to destroy clothing or irritate the users skin.* *Note:* You can accurately shoot guns without checkering on their handles or even an aggressive grip texture as the powerful guns listed has shown. *Reference* see my previous list of famous smooth handled (for the most part) firearms above. Again Grip texture - NOT REALLY IMPORTANT to CCW & Self-defense. You said, "but having the right tool designed for the right application is important..." Here, in this sentence I think you "jump the shark". There are many tools in the US gun industry to choose from that will be the right tool. Even if it were not for our CCW/self-defense discussion. With modern guns that almost all work well any handgun can be the right tool. As the right application (CCW or basic self-defense in this case) covers a lot of ground where many gun systems can & will work. It is really easy. USING A GUN FOR PROTECTION This task is a serious one but the tool can be many and hard thinking it is a waste of time and energy. There is no one right gun. There are many correct choices and it is very hard to fail in picking a gun for protection. I mean you got to be pretty... well you get the idea. Also, think about this - if you buy a gun and it doesn't quite work for you, you can sell it easily since guns generally hold their value or you can improvise, adapt, & overcome the issue(s) and use the weapon well for life. ITS ALL ABOUT THE MAN You said, "...and the 43X and 48 should have been thought out more thoroughly." ALWAYS remember it is the shooter not the tool that makes the successful shot or end of the incident. The focus is: - 90% the man/woman (practice, study, awareness of your surroundings, staying away from questionable/dangerous areas, etc.) - 10% tool, i.e. what self-defense tool you use. If it is a gun that is the easiest choice to make. As I said earlier there are many right choices in the USA for CCW or a self-defense handgun. The word *personal opinion* is a good one. But *"informed"* personal opinion* is the best word. Stay salty.

@@KSGunGuy01 You're not replying anymore signals the end of our conversation/friendly debate. As you can see I like to debate & play the "Angels" advocate. I am not in the gun community, not a gun collector, and don't run a gun store. So I have no stake in weapons, after markets parts, custom parts, promotion of other's products, etc. If you thought I was trolling you, *I was not.* I am for truth (telling it like it is) & consumer protection. I had many, many guns in the past after leaving the US Navy and now own just three (3) - listed from most useful 1st to least useful last: - a Shotgun (filled with slugs - bear country) - a "black" rifle (empty - more of a safe queen) & lastly - a CCW handgun (has Critical Defence polymer tips in it) I say the CCW handgun is least useful since I use better self-defense techniques: *1st* and avoidance, *2nd* awareness, *3rd* pepper gel/spray, *4th* Judo, etc. *5th* As a last resort... then use a firearm. Since less than 1% of the US public gets into a CCW incident where someone or two are shot I am pretty confident of my "least useful" statement. This is one major reason I was trying to water down your (IMO) too serious take on the grip of the Glock or any gun really. There are very few modern bad grips out there that are not "thought out" and GLOCK Inc. is not that sloppy. I could disagree from a CCW stand point on a lot of things you said & have done to the gun in the video above from a CCW/self-defense perspective but I know why you *say and do* the things you say & do anyway so why get into it? I’ve done the best thing you can do and bought both. Really all 3 of the best EDC guns imo. G43X, P365X, and the shield plus PC ported. Now I just carry which one I’ve got the itch for any given day. They all 3 serve a purpose daily in my rotation. They just swap spots lol. My H&K USP will always be my home defense weapon of choice tho. I love that gun! A beast to carry in your britches or shorts tho. Especially when you got a case of the gone ass disease.

If you have long finger/hands like me (6’1 and slim), Glock 43 is just too slim from back of grip to trigger. Shield is just right. Plus with the shield and +2 taran tactical base plate this dude has you can make your 8 round mag and 10 round mag with the FACTORY mag spring. Full-size/compact guns...Glock all day long... but single stacks (and $) shield wins big IMO.

The topic of your video should have been: Why I chose the S & W Shield 2.0 over the Glock 43X. My question is - why are all new handguns compared to Glocks? What does that tell you? Right now, no SD handgun is better than the G43X MOS.

Very Old posts here but i must say for those who stumble on that as i have. The shield 9mm 2.0 in 2021 still has absolutely the very best most crisp trigger of any alternative, even in newer models. The 2.0 isn't THAT old. STILL MUCH better than the GLOCK non match-grade stock trigger, even the old 1st gen triggers. Everyone is moving from external hammers to strikers. There must be a reason. I didn't think much until Walther PPQ became their new flagship pieces like The XD for Springfield is now., With PPQ dethroning the PPK, a hammer fired. JUST SAYO G FOR THISE CWHO WANT A BUDGET PIECE THAT'S ACTUALLY EXCEPTIONAL EXCEPT FOR CAPACITY BUT IT'S MICRO COMPACT,FOR A 9MM THAT IS, NOT A 380. IT'S NO HELLCAT

Love both but 43x and the 15 mag is the sell point for me. Price is reasonable

Excellent review... Shield 2.0 is good-2-go, but I have to give the nod to 43X. 43X can be had with two choices of night sights from the factory, more rounds in flush mags, better stock trigger, and mag release can be swapped to other side for us southpaws...

Thank you! Definitely great points. I think the 43X will be a great competitor going forward. Cheers!

The 2.0s are fantastic guns. I’ve had a couple of the M&P 9s. But I have shied away from guns that require a mag extension for my pinky. No one wanted to love the Sig P365 more than me. Or the G26. Also the Kimber Solo. Not to mention the G43. But I had to get rid of all of them. Well my daughter got the G43. But I picked up the new Sig P365XL and the new G43X the other day. Love both of them and they are so similar yet so different. They’ll both be in my rotation after I get at least 500 rounds through them.

I love my G43X. The G43X gives you the option of a black upper, which I prefer. Shield makes a metal Shield 15 round "S15" flush mag for the G43X and reviews have been good, recommending a metal mag release, because the metal mag will possibly wear on the plastic mag release over time. Alien Gear already has the shell for the G43X. I just ordered mine. I like the Alien Gear Modular Holster System, giving so many carry options. S&W Shield is a fine handgun, but I just prefer Glock.

I ordered and received 3 Shield Arms S15 magazines and changed out the magazine release for a metal extended release. The new ones are a little tighter in the grip but after a little use, they are fine. I like them. The only thing I didn't expect, is that the new mags are not for left handed shooters, which I happen to be. I can live with that fact though, and if they ever do make them for both, I'll order them and give these to my right handed son who also has a G43X. I've ordered 4 more.

I do know this : My stupid S/W Shield has been back for various failures 4 TIMES ! And it still sucks. 8 Glocks and NEVER 1 failure. Of any kind. Just got the new G43X and it goes to the range for the first round tomorrow. I am expecting to have a freekin blast. S/W is in my sock drawer, where it belongs. A waste of good money. I do not care what anybody thinks, Glocks have NEVER failed me. Ever.

I will say the shield is no slouch...if it held 10 rds like the 365 it would be a very difficult decision...maybe that will be the Shield 3.0

I know this video was almost a year ago, but I don't see the Shield 2.0 in the same price range as the original Shield M&P, would there be a good reason to pay more for the 2.0?

I was deciding between the two also, Went for the 1.0. A month ago, they were going for $250. Could not justify spending the extra an $80 for a little better stipling and serrated cut outs in front of slide. Hope this helps.

Both look like quality ccw's, but both could use something from the other. If you put the grip texture of the 2.0 on the 43X you have a great ccw. Put a longer grip/mag capacity on the 2.0 and it's a homerun. I agree they both could use a better trigger which you've already addressed. I love the flat-faced triggers, and especially the one you have in the Glock. Great review as usual brother, Cheers!

Shield is the better gun, glock has more capacity. Neither compare to a glock 26 or even close to a Glock 19. Premium slim line guns just don't compare to premium double stacks in shootability. If you have to have a slim line gun, get a P365XL, I just don't trust it with my life.
