Some pursuit policies don’t permit complete blocking in for safety reasons. One reason that seems to fit with policy is the possibility of direct gunfire to the officer’s side windows and windshield if they pull up too close to block that gap that the suspects normally would escape through.

@@AvaLiveLife Thanks for sharing, it was an interesting post. That sounds logical, yet doesn't explain or excuse the pursuing cops' incompetent, massively 'off' placement of their vehicles in this incident, which put their own lives at risk and allowed the female subject to flee for a second time. The police officer who stopped his car in front of her Lexus, then walked right in front of her windshield/past her side windows, made no attempt to confront her, remove her from the vehicle, disarm or arrest her, and gave her every opportunity to shoot him, had she so wished. He then unaccountably vanished behind her vehicle, and was next seen hurling a spike-strip behind its back tyres, as it accelerated away at speed. That's not how spike-strips work - or how police should handle such a driver!
