Yes. All people are innocent in the eyes of the law until proven guilty in a court of law. The television station did their due diligence in two ways. They blurred the image of the alleged perpetrator, protecting themselves from litigation if the individual were to be found innocent in court. Secondly, the protected his right to both a fair and impartial trial as well as ensuring a fair and impartial jury. A judge and/or jury can only pass their judgements based only on facts presented during the trial. If you were the person during, and had to due to extreme and extenuating circumstances, would you want to have the best possible defence? Or do you expect to face a kangaroo lynch mob?

@@Plutogalaxy In Europe the faces of anyone who has not explicitly signed a release must be blurred in a video. It doesn’t matter what they are doing. I have seen videos of car wrecks where the faces of some of the first responders are blurred but others aren’t. Same with bystanders. These are wrecks where someone has been trapped in the car. The victims identity is always blurred. Some countries actually care about privacy. I don’t know why you seem to think only a totalitarian country would blur faces of victims in a video. That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Sometimes blurring people and objects in videos is dictated by the agency taking the video. Some law enforcement agencies blur faces of all LEOs in the video along with license plates, the screen on the in-car computer. The way some people seem to think they can independently decide to attack someone for a perceived wrong, it is dangerous to do some kinds of work these days. People doing those jobs did nothing wrong except in the eyes of the attacker. It is now open season on anyone even tangentially associated with running an election. Their FAMILIES are also targeted. And definitely anyone involved in holding a specific convicted felon accountable. Since they blurred the faces of both the perpetrator and the victim, what other reason can there be to blur their faces except for privacy? Even in a situation like this where a person is obviously and undeniably committing a crime, they have the assumption of innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Info for all of the armchair commandos and those who don't know the area. The initial incident took place in West Wendover, Nevada, which is on the state line where I-80 crosses it, and then the idiot decided to head east. I-80 crosses the Bonneville Salt Flats. In the first 60 miles, there are only THREE offramps, one stretch is 40 miles or so. The pursuit ended about 5 miles from the first place that wasn't just open, flat ground with nowhere to hide. There were no reasons to rush anything, once the helo got there and there was no chance that they would lose the car. Once the tires were spiked, it was a countdown to the end. They finally did a PIT when the driver didn't pull over and give it up, rather than let him get to the first town. The fire station was miles from when the car was burning. It takes time to cover the distance. By the time they got there, there was no rush to put it out. The UHP units have fire extinguishers, but the fire was too far advanced for them to do any good, once they had the occupants out and dealt with. The white color on the ground is SALT. "Great Salt Lake," "Bonneville Salt Flats," these should be your first hint. Or look at the big piles of salt at the Morton plant on the left of the screen at one point. If it's in a shaker on your table next year, there's a good chance you saw it in that pile.

This was a commendable car chase! The officers handled it expertly and avoided putting anyone in unnecessary danger. No escalation - backed off when necessary. All cops should take note - this is how you handle this scary situation professionally. That said, I've encountered a few troopers in Tooele County that got pretty unhinged over nothing. I'm assuming they weren't at this scene or it might have turned out differently.
