So the orbit line disappears under a couple of different conditions, if you EVA and get a little ways away then come back it can trigger it, or when you control a ship or return to the KSC then retake control of it. Basically there's a chance it happens any time the game decides that it's that it doesn't need to simulate the ship, then returns to simulating it. If you load a quick save and it doesn't come back when you take off again, reload the quick save again, just get yourself about 15-20 meters above the surface and touch back down. When you launch again it will come back. Somewhere there is a function that doesn't double check the vessel state, what I think happens (as a programmer, and supported by the games warning messages) is that when you leave for EVA, or the KSC it triggers the "Vessel of crashing trajectory" message, so there is likely a function that doesn't check the status of the ship to see if it's landed, it assumes that it's not. Then when you regain control it doesn't recheck the status. so when you take off, the ship situation is landed, but another function somewhere thinks it's suborbital, since it thinks it's suborbital it never triggers the status change on liftoff, so no orbital lines. This is also supported by the whole if I take off, and land immediately, then take off again, it will restore the orbital line. So somewhere there is a boolean value to determine the status internally that isn't getting updated properly. That's my mildly educated guess anyway.

Yes it can be fixxed by going in the save and changing it to orbiting from landed. But the saves do not use the craft name in plain text so its hard to find the right vehicle.

Easiest fix is to load a save where you are still on the ground, exit your Kerbal and re-enter the cockpit. After taking off, the orbital line will be there again. I think that's also why it worked in the video. When Matt loaded his quicksave, Valentina was still outside the craft.

As a new Kerbal player, your videos are so helpful and entertaining! The first thing I do after watching them is go try and execute the same mission; each of your videos introduces new topics so well. I cannot wait until your Duna video, hopefully it's soon! Thanks again, best subscription I've made on youtube in a while. Send a rover to Duna !!!

Brother you've got to start remembering to put lights on your landers. I notice it's not your standard practice but they have some great flood, navigation, and tracking lights. Always put some small lights on any vehicle you plan on landing or docking and floods on all landers.

If your orbital line disappears, try loading a quicksave where you are still on the ground on minmus. Exit your kerbal and re-enter the craft and the orbital line should be there again after you take off. At least it repeatedly works for me :)

I struggled with this mission for so long. The trajectory line for my landing would always terminate well above the surface and the moment I crossed that point I would explode and it would say I crashed into the surface. Eventually I got it by effectively treating that point as if I was actually landing there and it let me cross the point by going through it at like 2m/s and then it let me land normally, it even put my line to ground again.

I saw two other comments point it out too, that an eccentric orbit is elliptical; you're meaning an inclined orbit in at least some of the places you're using eccentric.

Still using the small parts for the ascent stage, wouldn't ever do that once the medium parts are unlocked 😅 The poodle engine is just my absolute favourite. The best for orbital insertion and transfer stages, before unlocking the BIG nuclear one much further down the techtree. Also, i'd say a missed chance to teach the newlings how to properly align the orbit with AN/DN. Since Duna will be another target with no inclination change.

I just finished the ike mini mission it goves to you after setting foot on duna and i want to flip a table. Got there perfectly fine, and discarded my transfer vehicle, perfectly fine. The problem came after i made sure my transfer vehicle was going to smash into duna. For some reason, the game thought my lander / return vehicle was out of fuel. The guages were all full, however it said i was out of DV so it wouldnt let me plan manuver nodes. I reloaded the save and even re launched the game but it wouldnt read the DV i obviously had. Did the mission anyway and at the end i still had plenty of fuel to get me back to kerbin. So i turned on infinite fuel and did the return flight without manuver nodes whkch hurt my brain.

I've never played KSP, watched a lot. Then JNO was on sale a while ago on Steam, and because my PC is no graphics monster, I have that and play that sometimes. But watching KSP2, and paying attention to craft construction... I'm struck by how basic it is. It's just "and then we'll add the Reliant engine!" Done. There's no tuning the nozzle type, throat size, length, or chamber pressure.

I know the feeling, though I'm surprised you managed to avoid all the prerelease spoilers. I managed to spoil KSP1 for myself when I didn't even watch KZbin at all. I was expecting astronomy followed by carefully planned missions, like RL, so I didn't have a big issue with zooming in on all the bodies in the tracking station. After that, and after finding out how boring most of the world surfaces were to actually explore, the plotless mysteries, cheesy "science", and issues with large structures, there wasn't much left to keep my interest. KSP2 has better ideas all round, though it still only has one easily-spoilered universe. I grew up in a world of procedural generation.
