Having self-discipline is so difficult. My last career games were all in hard mode, in which quickloading is disabled but quicksaving is enabled. So you can save along the way and not be allowed to load in the game. However, if some kraken attacks that is not your fault, you simply use the cheat menu (alt + f12) and enable quickloading. Once you load a save the quickloading is turn off by default.

White or cyan skies would look pretty good I think. It'd make Eeloo feel like a proper frozen world instead of just a glorified ball of ice, and from a gameplay perspective there would finally be a low gravity/high atmospheric pressure combo.

to do proper atmospheric landings and hit the spot you want without quicksaves and such you have to do a bit of calculation in your head, then have wheels or hopping engines to correct and deviation. hopping engines add quite a bit of weight most of the time, which makes things tougher. wheels tend to be fragile and so sticking your landing or having some mechanism to swap out your landing legs for wheels is needed, which again makes things a bit more difficult.

I had an adventure today! My main game is getting to be a bit of a drag; too much planning, too many flights, and it's all just progressing so slowly. I've started testing vehicles in a separate save game, recently including a little spaceplane which didn't turn out well, it had too much drag, but being small and mostly made of fuel tanks, it reached orbit with quite a lot of delta-V. So I went to Jool. :D I've got tons of experience flying and building, but this is only my second entry into the Jool system. There was no chance of capture without a Tylo gravity assist, but I have very little experience with gravity assists altogether. I tried and tried until I got the best capture I could... into suborbital trajectory... which I later realised was retrograde! Still, it was a very narrow ellipse, and I know from experience that means the craft will hardly be moving at all at apoapsis. The little delta-V I had was enough to reverse direction and set up a Laythe encounter in prograde. Now I had no idea what height to aim for, so I checked tutorials and then settled on a bit higher than recommended, 40km, because I would be coming in a bit quick from my high apoapsis. I was nervous! I made lots of quicksaves. I had absolutely no idea if there would be enough drag to capture, and if not, I'd be on a completely unrecoverable trajectory into Jool. Nor did I have any idea what the atmospheric heating would be like. It was -- just barely -- fine! :D I had to tumble to distribute heat which is not my favourite thing to do, but it does work well. And then the plane turned out to be super-stable. Perhaps it was all the drag at the back, where I had for some reason thought it would be neat to sheath a nuclear engine with a Mk2 cargo bay. (It wasn't.) Anyway, this plane's coming down, turning to avoid the night side and the big ocean which led into it, stable but with a poor glide ratio, and so it turned out there was only one place it could land. You'll never guess where it was... Lowne Island! :D I'm even down the same end of the island, completely by chance. So now I have to finish the big mining spaceplane I'm building so I can rescue Jeb. :D It'll be able to rescue him if it works at all; it's complicated and slightly peculiar as are many of spaceplanes. I'll tell you what, though; it takes a long time for a kerbal to run 2km; over 1/4 hour of constant key pressure with an awkward hand position. As small as the island is, I almost wish the big spaceplane had room for a rover. (It's not really big compared to some Lowne Aerospace craft, but does use Mk3 & 3.75m parts.) I'll just have to taxi the big spaceplane. It's got a wide track so it shouldn't suffer the same fate as my other big spaceplane on Minmus, rolling over when I turned too hard, losing canards and an engine. XD But I've rescued those kerbals already.
@madisonruelle90744 жыл бұрын
Matt, in regards to your frustration with the Jool SOI crash, I also get that. I think it’s something to do with the conic patch limit getting overwhelmed with so many calculations at once. I’ve have had good luck avoiding it by reducing the patch limit to 3 or 4 when fine-tuning my jool approach, then bringing it back to six once I’m in Jools SOI. Obviously not the same as a patch fixing it, but hopefully can save you some frustration.
