No police presence at all but they'll set up their little speed trap on a residential street going 35 in a 25. These speed chases are ridiculous putting others in jeopardy like that poor pickup driver in this video. What were they chasing him for? Most times they don't even know. when you see it on TV or video it is obvious to you (me, anyone) who is the bad guy and what is going on, but when you are driving on the road you do not know what is happening. I have been on the road before when a high speed chase came up from behind and I first noticed a car coming up fast from behind. That is all I saw, then, while I had to focus on traffic ahead and to the side of me, that car changed lanes and drove past me ... ok, I still did not realize what was going on ... and after a few seconds the first cop passed me, then another etc ... and still it took me a few seconds to put two and two together to realize that these cops were after that other car that passed me. So it is not surprising to me that many of the other cars did not move over or slow down etc, because to many of them it was simply not obvious what was going on as they can not see 'the big overhead' picture of the situation as clearly as we do from the helicopter camera.

CHP is second to none when it comes to chases. They are so coordinated when it comes to closing off exits and keeping their distance not to provoke the driver too much because they have the heli. It takes a lot of training to do what they do. I've been in a few chase, but there are so many departments from different boroughs you pass through that it's hard to coordinate anything because by the time you coordinate something they are already out of the tiny borough. I wish we had a county police force instead of all these little independent boroughs with their little independent police forces of like 10-12 cops total on their rosters.
