Yikes, this is one of the most important episodes to watch to remind us why we should learn to split cases. 🙏

These types of videos are handy. Often easier to find simple things, like which way did that seal go, or which side is the ball bearing and which side is the cylindrical bearing. Because I didn't take a video when I tore it down. 😂 Thank you!

Great video man, saved me lots of money. I have a question: the shop gave me my motor back in pieces and they had removed the bottom auxiliary oil drain plug on the stator side. Does that bolt have a spring and ball like the clutch side. I did not see those parts in the parts bag they gave me...just the plug with o ring was there. Thanks

I watched this video after finding a spring by my oil drain as well. Turns out from the looks of it to be one of the springs at the end of the shift fork. I have been running the bike for a while now like that. What sort of damage could be done?
@highlandcycles3 ай бұрын
Not sure. Those are interesting springs. Some bikes don’t run them from The factory

Walked into a dealer they had one, heard they were near unobtainium so I had to have it! Obviously were here for the same reason I hope I don't have to see this for at least 2 seasons.

About to split my cases on my 350, when/hrs do you change the connecting rod? I have about 500hrs on mine
@highlandcycles3 жыл бұрын
If it’s still in spec I’d run it. I have seen those go almost 1000 hrs. I would just put new main bearings in.

How much do you charge to replace a connecting rod on 2017 350xcf if the bottom end is already out of the bike
@highlandcycles11 ай бұрын
To split the cases and replace the crank is 2hrs labor at 100/hr. To rebuild the crank, we send that to Crank Works and it’s about $300

@@highlandcycles my guess is whoever installed the rekluse took the clutch basket off and kickershaft out. the washer then fell down unnoticed.
@brycedavis9073 жыл бұрын
@@adamkinmond1008 doesn't really explain why the stator side seal spring was inside the cases. Makes me think someone may have had the cases split.

@@brycedavis907 you need to watch more KZbin videos if you can't solve that mystery.

purchased a 22 fx350 husqvarna and the oil pump failed and blew engine at 32 hrs. aftermarket warranty paid 7k in parts and labor to rebuild engine. after waiting 10 months for parts to be delivered due to back orders, got the bike back last month and in 7 hours it stopped oiling again and blew the new engine. The new engine had the aluminum oil pump gear installed. Definitely a bad first ktm/husky experience.

Some one worked on it and didn’t put the washer back. Careless. It’s impossible for that washer to have come loose on its own.

At 16:33 I can see a seal put in backwards. Shouldn't that be spring facing outside?
@highlandcycles2 жыл бұрын
No, that is the way it came out from the factory. I’m not 100% sure why they even have a seal there because the trans and motor use the same oil.
@crs2crs22 жыл бұрын
@@highlandcycles That's strange, mine came installed with spring facing out on a 2014 350 exc-f, so was the seal on this bike, check around 4:30 kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnnHeX6Mmad6mas

@@crs2crs2 definitely is on that one. Not sure if it’s a difference in years. This one is a 12 which was the first year of that motor.

Great detective work to identify that washer ! Had a similar issue on a 2015 FC 350 engine I worked on. Some gorilla had stripped the oil drain bolt thread ,so I had split the cases to get it welded up and re threded. While I had it apart I found what looked like 2 halves of piston ring in the oil sump !
