RJ, How does it compares to other Dukes and would you recommend it as a first motorcycle or is it too "aggressive" even with all the electronics? Is the TFT like the 2017 models with all the connectivity?

I really really hate that double seat. It destroys the whole look of the bike. Never in my life have a concept bike looked so cool and the final product been such disappointment. Vitpilen 701 was the opposite. The final bike was better than the concept.

My god! I’m glad I’ve never seen the prototype prior to the launch. When I saw the production version I thought it looked the best out of ktm’s toy box. Then I googled the prototype and pissed myself. I think the bike looks fine until you put the Akra on. The stock pipe looks like a part from their Husky bin, which is a plus.

I actually like the bigger rear seat... You can throw some touring accessories on from KTM parts catalog and get a really nice tourer naked here. Plus it looks like he rear seat is comfy enough for long rides.

Wow, lots of negative comments! I ride a new 790 Duke (got it last week) and a 2016 BMW R1200R sport. Both are great bikes. Horses for courses and all that. I love both bikes. The 790 is great fun, so light and flickable. The R1200R Sport is a great tourer with the panniers mounted, a big bike but still a naked monster without the panniers. Stop moaning guys and just love your bikes! You are enjoying the best choice of bikes in history! If you don't like this bike, buy something else, don't put a great bike down, probably most of you have never even ridden it. I rode it 200 miles back from the dealer with a brief stop for some petrol. Brilliant! If you want one, contact DMC Birmingham. They did the best deal by far. I dealt with Andy.

I had the opportunity to take it for a test ride and honestly, that must be the best sounding stock exhaust ever (Euro 4). I heard the tundering noise as the previous rider took it back to the dealership and oh god, i couldnt believe that this is not an aftermarket slipon. Amazing work on the sound by KTM. And sure, the bike doesnt look as hot as the prototype, but I really liked it and in that price range it is definitely my favourite. Street mode is very casual and nice comfy ride. Sport is very manageable but also very direct power delivery. Love it. And the fact that you can get so much and can adjust pretty much everything (electronics-wise) without having to pay for extra performance packages and what not .. just great and well worth the price.

The 790 and the 890r both have 285 crankpin offset. Not quite the 315 of the Nuda but definitely sounds better than MT07 and other 270 degree bikes. Glad you're interested in this sort of stuff! Keep up your awesome work RJ. Hoping to bump fists one day!

RJ, it will be really helpful if you could let us know if a pillion will be comfortable with the exhaust under the thighs. The prototype attracted me. But this one looks far away from the aggression, which KTM displayed. Good luck to you. Happy riding :)

Very nice to ride, quick and agile. The engine is lovely. The standard exhaust is quite loud, I thought the dealer had taken the baffle out. Very good value if you consider it has cornering abs etc. Got on it and took all of 2 minutes to be comfortable riding it. Unfortunately, not the same for the seat, bit of an odd shaped plank, quite wide. So go for the comfort/ergo seat option. Thanks to KTM Hemel Hempstead for the test ride. Nice bunch of guys.

I test rode it and its great balance between 1290 and 690, light but still powerfull and with great throttle response. But little too small for my frame, I will wait for 790 Adventure.

The exhaust looks pretty ugly, but I must say the sound is really nice. Doesn't have to be loud to sound good, as long as it has a nice tone like this one. I wonder which body parts are actually made from plastic and which are made from metal, would be nice if you showed it in a later video. I can't tell if the spoiler grip thingy in the back is made from plastic or metal, but i don't really think it helps the bike's looks.

I wish it would look the prototype but that’s why a prototype is a prototype. I think you can make it look similar though, by changing the exhaust to something smaller. Try to turn that rear cowl into something else, and fender eliminator kit. I think the tank is supposed to have a dip but I don’t find it to be THAT far off from the prototype. However, if I’m gonna go based on looks alone, then I would just get the 1290 over the 790. The 790 is if you’re running on a budget for wanting the 1290 but having to settle. Still a good bike.

Personally I like the look of most of the bike. The tank doesn't bother me like many other people on the comments. The only thing that bothers me is the headlight. I wish they would have gone with a larger more traditional light. It looks like it was smashed down against the front of the bike.

Oli KIng - but there hasn't been a previous version - the 690 duke is a single cylinder & totally different. I had one, then swapped it for an MT07 - I'm glad I did but would rather have the 790 now.

This type of bike would be the only pony I could afford in the stable so how does it stack up with longer distance rides, luggage,pillion etc? KTM had to stick that taillight out on the end of a dumb plastic dingleberry, like the 1st-gen Honda NC700X. And a correction, RJ..... the engine is a 285° crankpin setup. Same firing order as their 75° Vtwins.

Hi RJ, I have several questions: How the brakes feel? Did you miss KTM use a big brand like brembo? What is the driving position? Too much weight in the front or maybe is more comfortable that you expect? What could you say about the lights and how perform at night? Did you have any extra on the motorcyle? (You mention that the Akra is not availabl, but they give you the unit with some extra like MyRide, Heated Handgrips, etc) How is the management of the menus? Select riding mode, pick up or hang up the phone. Disabling/Enabling anti wheelie, etc I'm really interested int the answers because I'm trying to buy one, thanks in advance.

Unfortunatley this bike did not meet the expectations of many people and myself. The concept bike was stunning and in reality a bike that couldnt come to market so i understand the changes but its lile theyve changed everything, i dont like alot of things about the duke and its let me down tbh

A few reviews have mentioned a slightly dodgy gear-change going up through the box with the quick-shifter - occasionally hits neutral. This may be because most bikes are quite new but it would be interesting to know your view. If you've ridden the latest Street Triple or MT-09 it would be nice to know how you think they compare. Fit and finish given it's at a very competitive price point would also be interesting. Thanks.

I have the 390 Duke, and though I do love it, I'd be curious to see if the same thing that happens to mine happens to this. When you ride in the wet, does the water get into the electronics? The rain has affected my indicators, making one side flash faster than the other, and has affected my brake light - making it stay on all the time whenever it gets wet enough. It's safe to say a trip to the KTM dealer is in order to get it sorted. Keep an eye out for the brake light issue, RJ, could be dangerous.

Hi RJ, Fellow city rider here (Sydney) Interested in the fuelling in different modes. Low speed does it bog is it smooth or snatchy. Quick shifter usable down low or only over 5k rpm. Long swing arm more stable to crawl in traffic. Tyres are they up to the job? Thank you appreciate all the work you put into your channel.

RJ, hello from Russia, Moscow! I have been selecting this spring between 1290r and this 790 duke. After all i have decided to make pre-order on this 790, because it’s my second bike after 250cc enduro. And because 790 has all the electronics like 1290. It has smaller engine, but is that power more than enough for town? And i’m still very interesting in comparison with 1290r in aspects of riding only in the city. What would You prefer for the city 790 or 1290 and why. Does this bike (790) real scalpel, why it is more scalpel than 1290r or not?) After 790 do You think 1290 is too more powerful for town? I don’t know person whose answer will be more rational than Yours, because You ride a lot of bikes and had previous generation of 1290r. If You will giving Your thoughts and feelings - it will be great! Of course it’s also interesting comparison with Nuda, but You have said on this video, that You will tell us. Thanks in advance!
