Hi Mike, thanks for a great video. I had wondered why the 950SE was a thing of legend, and you've explained it nicely in 13 short minutes. Now I want one more than ever!
@lanceg.84586 жыл бұрын
I think the economic collapse of 2009 had as much to do with the 950SE demise an anything. KTM trimmed their entire lineup 200xc's, 400XC's and others went away in that era. When the economy improved the world had changed and fuel injection was all the rage. My dealer in Utah wanted 10,995 for their leftover 950SE and wouldn't deal on it tho I lusted after it each time I passed by. Great video!!

that makes sense. around the same time as the HP2 release as well.. when people are struggling they aren't going to buy 20k dirtbikes. problem is a crash is coming soon as well, probably this year, so more great bikes are likely years away.

Excellent video! As a 950SE owner, I have to agree with just about everything that is said. I was thinking about selling mine only because of my physical limitations (spine issues,) but after seeing this video, I'm reconsidering. I have really had to slow down though. About the HP2, I feel that there were two major flaws with that bike....the dry plate clutch and the inability to change gearing. I once rode with a dude that had one and I kept smelling his burning clutch while we were doing some single track. It's definitely not an easy repair to change a clutch on that vintagr boxer. Definitely another very cool bike nevertheless.

I have a an SE. It is insanity and perfection on 2 wheels. Two trips pre running the Baja track, and countless years riding in the desert in Southern California we literally the highlights of my riding life. I keep considering selling it as I am 62 this year. It has been an almost flawless bike, with a fuel pump and voltage regulator replacement as it's only repairs in 25k miles. The suspension is like riding on a video game at 80-110mph across dry lake beds.

IMO the SE is the same as the original 950 Adv, they were developed for racing and sold to the public and as far as the Adv goes once the ASO started clamping down on displacement it spelled the end for the Adventure and its development as a racing platform. I had an 05.5 Adventure and sold it several years back thinking that I would pick up a new Adventure in a few years but I didn't realize what KTM was going to do to the Adventure and I still don't have another.

@desertendurochannel87274 жыл бұрын
No sir. there's the SM and SMR. The SMR is more like the SE, but still has different swingarm and front end and rake and brakes. the SM was used as the template to build the SE. yes, SE's are still pulling about twice that of SMs and about $3-$4K more than the SMR's. The SMR fuel tank, tank panels, and seat interchange with the SE. The SM fuel tank and panels do not... except the rear panel.

DesertEnduro Channel The new 790 enduro R is out. I reluctantly passed on purchasing a new SE when they came available in The USA. I don’t want to make the same mistake twice. Do you know anyone with the new bike and does it hold a candle to the SE or live up to its own hype?
@desertendurochannel87275 жыл бұрын
I know of a few folks with the 790 and they are praising the bike. two folks put almost 4K miles on two separate 790Rs in about a month. They had issues, but loved the bikes. I don't have first hand knowledge (yet), but most 790 owners are saying the 790 is not a direct replacement for the SE-R but it is better in some ways and lacks in others. But the lure of the SE is real and its such a great bike. Mostly the SE has more torque on the low end and just its shear back to basics design is appealing to an almost cult level that to this day is not slowing down by the die hards. I have a 790 R Rally on order. When it comes in over the next couple months I'll be putting a video together on my views of the 790R Rally as compared to one of my four previous SE's. Cheers!

@desertendurochannel87277 жыл бұрын
Are you asking about the tires on the stock OEM picture at 26 seconds? If so, the Tires are Metzler MCE Karoo 2 [T] 140/80-18 and 90/90-21. The [T] stands for Traveler. They are no longer produced as they have been replaced by the Karoo 3. There are no new tires to be found in the USA. There are a couple of fronts over in Poland produced in 2012. I have not found any new rears anywhere on the planet. Hope this helps. Cheers.

Rik Rijnders it doesn't wear very well IMO, but it still hooks up like crazy even worn. I've smoked one off road in the desert on my 950 in less than 200 miles. When it wears its gets very flat and the edge gets square. That said, I've heard folks get much more miles out of them not hammering them. Hard pack (like blue groove) is slippery. They work best in loose stuff, sand, mud, Loam, wet trails, etc. they roost like crazy and can almost knock a guy off a bike behind you when on the v-twin.

Does the 1090 AR compare?
@desertendurochannel87275 жыл бұрын
You'd have to talk with someone who has both to compare. Never ridden a 1090. I will say I had an 1190 and 990 and the 990 and especially the 1190 had nothing on the SE off road and the SE had nothing for the 990 or 1190 on road. They each had their place. The 990 and 1190 can do off road just fine, but neither could compete with the SE when the going got tough.
@kauxkaux5 жыл бұрын
I can get one... safe to buy? No risk of running out of parts?
@desertendurochannel87275 жыл бұрын
people are still selling and buying. Most engine parts are interchangeable with the 950 Adventure and 950 Super moto. Where you will run into issues are some of the plastic pieces are getting hard to find. graphics if you can find them are typically in poor shape. The radiators are no longer being produced and at this time no one is making any in the aftermarket sector. that said, there is an American vendor looking into having some made for the SE. there is a high demand for the radiator and I think they will become available sometime soon. The bash plate on the SE is a poor design and if you het something hard it will push up and damage the lower part of the radiator. parts are not as available as new bikes and you typically have to order them or wait for them from overseas so keep that in mind. great bike though. one of the few bikes with an actual soul. it was built to be ridden and is tougher than most riders.
@kauxkaux5 жыл бұрын
DesertEnduro Channel thank you so much . Any estimate what is a fair price for a 07 with 15000 miles on the clock?
@desertendurochannel87275 жыл бұрын
here in the US prices vary from $6K to $9K depending on condition and how many modifications are done. $8K to $9K would require the bike to be in greta condition and have lots of accessories/modifications. With the release of the 790 the SE will no longer draw the big numbers ($10K and more) unless its a super low mileage (less than 2K miles) and showroom mint. Even then it will be hard to sell. The peak of the SE was about 3 years ago here in the US. With all the the above said, the SE is a fantastic bike, and worth every penny. There's no shame in paying more than a bike is worth if you really want one and the only alternative is walking away and never satisfying your dream or desire. I don't get hung up on resale values when its a bike i really want.
@kauxkaux5 жыл бұрын

again, great video ok the erzberg! what I did was take two serial number down to my ktm dealer, one serial number from my berg, the other from a north American berg on ebay claiming to be 1 of the 100, my bike came back as a berg the other a standard se, so please if you are buying a berg do your research !! you can buy a ktm 950 se erzberg 08 conversion kit from ktm, but its not a berg! in Australia 2009 the berg was pre ordered and cost over $23000 numbered. take what you want from this see ya.
@desertendurochannel87276 жыл бұрын
Trevor, you are absolutely right about numbered Erzbergs and I now know what you are describing. Yes, absolutely none in NA were numbered. The bike you saw on eBay in NA might have been a 2008 Vin'd bike with a 2009 Title. If so, that would have been a KTM Factory produced and sold KTM non-numbered Erzberg. Yes, it is not one of the numbered 100, but it is an Erzberg all the same. The ONLY ting the numbered Erzbergs had that the 2009 NA Erzbergs did not have is the Akropovic Exhaust Silencers (due to strict NA Emission laws), adjustable footpegs, and a spare knobby tire at time of sale. If the Erzberg on eBay you saw was titled a 2008 bike, it was in fact not and Erzberg as you say. I agree completely with you, except the fact the 2009 NA non numbered Erzberg is not an Erzberg, It is the only Erzberg NA received directly from KTM and although it is not a numbered 1-100, it is not fake or a rip off. Unless someone is trying to pass it off as a real 1-100 Erzberg. Then, that would be a fake. Cheers and thanks for the information and dialog. I like to get all the information i can on these incredible bikes and appreciate your time to explain your situation to me.

Trevor, unless you can provide proof, I will have to disagree with you. I've done over 5 years of research on the SE. I've owned several. I can't speak to South American Erzbergs as I don't live there. But if the North American Erzbergs (they don't wear upper triple clamp numbered badges like the EU Erzbergs) sold by Factory KTM Dealers are fake, please post up your proof as you might be one ton something. I will correct the info in the video if you have some data. We need to know what research you are talking about. Thanks.

again, great video!! just take your vin/chassis number down to your local ktm dealer and ask him or her to verify it is a berg as I did, I also took down the vin/chassis number of a north American berg, came back just a 950 se not a berg! ktm web site states that there were 100 only. in the USA I see bergs for sale saying this is one of the 100, Canada march 2017 $16500 thinking it is one of the 100, in Australia the berg was pre ordered 6 months out and was worth $23000 ride away 2009.you can buy an erzberg kit 08 Europe 2008 conversion kit erzberg edition, again if you are looking to buy a berg, check the serial number, for eu burgs the number will match the number on the top triple clamp, hope this is a help.? last one I saw for sale was number 41 in England I think. if any one can tell me what the go is with the north American model I would thank you very much, get called a dick at work all the time nothing new there!!!
