@danpress77453 жыл бұрын
sad that people can't get the child trafficking part.
@pennydaytreasures81733 жыл бұрын
Yeah I have mixed feelings about this. Even biological parents traffic their children so a birth certificate doesn’t mean it can’t happen. I think what is important here is to find out if the flight attendant lied as to the reason she felt the child might be in danger. Coming from a parent perspective I understand how upset this mom was, we always want to protect our children. I understand this was very traumatic for her daughter especially just coming from a funeral. I understand the first instinct is anger and feeling injustice. Yet I feel like the trauma of the situation could be mitigated by having a discussion on why it is so important adults do look for children who are vulnerable. Instead we are pushing back at reporting suspicions for fear of being wrong. Which ultimately will hurt the chances of a child being rescued. Now if the only reason the flight attendant chose to report was because of racial profiling that is wrong. So I hope an investigation is done. I have a friend who married a Korean man and her children are half white and half Korean. Her daughter has dark skin, dark hair and her son has a lighter olive skin with blond hair. When they were young the amount of people who randomly stopped her and asked her about her adoption was astounding. Perfect strangers assuming her child was adopted just because her skin was dark. People don’t understand genetics very well and let’s face it some people still don’t like seeing mixed races.
@emem28632 жыл бұрын
I think it's the way they handled it. Also, lots of people have mixed race children or children who don't have the same ethnic look as they do. The child's behavior seemed to be that of a child with a parent, not a stranger.

Actually you should carry some ID, and a letter from the other parent allowing the travel. So the airline employee were looking out for traffickers. Is that a bad thing? Of course they look different. The same thing happened to me when I traveled to Central America, I was returning with my fifteen year old son. I am white, and my son is half hispanic. They sent me to some special customs officer to get checked out. I was laughing hysterically at the customs officer - I thought - check all you want. I thought it was funny because my 15 year old son was 6'2" 200 lbs, bigger than me, and the idea that I might be forcing him to do something against his will seemed ridiculous. I think my hysterical laughing confused her. I think this mother needs to get over her snit about profiling and be grateful that people are trying to stop trafickers. I am sure if she explained things to them she would have been ok. After all, that's what people who are looking for trafficked children do: they profile. For the record. A real human trafficer would not sit with a kid of a different race. They match kids to people of similiar colors so that the adults could pass as parents. And would do seemly normal parenting ques that are double meaning. Look up body languge of children. Are they relax? Do they constutely glance up to the face of the adult whenever they move? What words do they use around this person? Is it causal familiar? Or strict formal? Thats how you tell. Practice in americia people watching. And you be able in time to spot the difference

This kind of thing will stop when the damages are serious money. She should get a $1Billion award. Anything less is play money and airlines won’t take it seriously.

was she really accused? airline staff & police seem to have just been suspicious, and responding to suspicion. Accusation is another level entirely. The look for the circumstances that are more likely to trafficked children.

I have several good friends with biracial children and I feel for the mom and especially for her little girl. SW should apologize to them especially because this situation is probably less likely to happen if the parent and child have similar skin tones. BUT the issue of human trafficking can't be taken lightly and sometimes, we need to see the bigger picture and think, not of our own feelings, but how the actions of the crew might save the life of someone else's child. We should all keep in mind that the crew was only trying to protect a child.

There are many children that are traficked like this all the time. Many times you just have to go on your intutition. This will have a cooling effect, next time even if a flight attendant has suspicions she will just keep it to herself, why bother if you are wrong you could lose everything.
@soniablaire32543 жыл бұрын
Human smuggling business is bigger than drugs or guns smuggling. People should be happy that someone wanted to verify the child was hers. If I was a mother, I'd be grateful. Instead, they turn this into racism. Unbelievable. However, I'm willing to bet that if the child was traveling with a "white" kidnapper, the mother would be outraged that no one stopped to question the relationship between a white person and a black child.

@lifeonleo10743 жыл бұрын
@@educationalramblings6826 The conversation will tell you a lot exactly how, the child will say she is being traficked, or you will question tge child and if she does not talk then what? At the end of the day these things come down to your gut call, intuition. You don't have any hard evidence but something seems off. At the end of the day you have to make that Call or not, and if I will lose everything for being wrong, then I am not making that call and a child may or may not be traficked for life.

I'm sure Southwest deals with mixed families all the time. The issue wasn't that they looked different - it was how the mother was acting. Not speaking to a child on the trip and not allowing the child to speak is odd. The flight attendant wanted to play it safe. The mother should be grateful that if her daughter was stolen one day, that these flight attendants are looking out for her.

I get both sides while profiling is a serious matter we can't discount that human trafficking is a real thing. If we punish the airlines and employees we are training them to ignore suspicious behavior that might be actual human trafficking or other serious crimes. A child held against their will maybe right under nose of an attendant and they will do nothing because they don't want to be wrong and be crucified for it.
