Annjolie pelletier Idk the rules for the fitting rooms are usually on a sign for all to see. I had an incident where I had to cover the fitting rooms. Rule was 6 items. We would hand you on a plastic# on how many items you had. A woman had six items. When she gave them back to me she had put on a new item and left her crappy shirt on a hanger. I called security and told them what was up. The head of security let her walk out the door. I was pissed. If you tell security of a theft. You'd get a reward I think it was $50. So I'm sure it wasn't like a personal decision in your case. But people try ripping off stores all day long. Worse if you live in a city.

I was with my friends away from my mother. He said he was going to call the police to arrest me and I asked him to page my mom and he said no so I said then call my dad and gave his name. He paged my mother because he knew who my dad was and later apologized. I found out after that one of the girls I was with did steal something and he just decided he would blame me. His problem was he blamed the wrong kid and my dad was lead council for the store. I received a letter of apology and a certificate for what I wanted but when you are a kid and accused of something and humiliated a "I'm sorry" Doesn't help you feel better. Something similar once happened to me. I was shopping at a candy store with my friends, and we were looking behind a shelf at the candy selection. The lady that was working there told us to get out, and me and my friends almost cried all the way home. We were twelve years old, so we didn't need our parents to come with us, but the next day my mom went there and asked why she told us to get out, was because we had backpacks, and we were acting "suspiciously" although we didn't have backpacks, and we're doing nothing wrong. It was embarrassing, and it made me very mad.

when I was 4 I found a fresh lollipop OUTSIDE of a department store and picked it up. Not even two seconds later a young cashier came out screaming directly in my face that I was a rotten little thief! luckily my mom saw all this go down and nearly bashed the womans head open. The manager had to come out and, sure enough, they looked over the security tape and saw that I hadn't even went in the store, let alone stolen anything from it. This happened to me earlier this year. I was in CVS and the manager was stalking me and then the security guard started talking to me and waved at me and left so I kept looking. I went in the candy isle and the manager ran up behind me and grabbed my purse and started rifling though it only to say, "okay" and walk away. Needless to say I don't go there anymore. I was really shaken because no one else was in the isle and he came up behind me and I didn't hear because I'm severely hard of hearing. I filed a complaint but nothing happened.

Sweet little girl. I know there are some kids out there who make the big mistake of shoplifting but most this young, with such good parents are very aware about how wrong it is. I remember I was 5 when I accidently walked out of Wal-Mart with a pack of strawberry gum in my little hand. Distracted by my mom hurrying to pay for our items and the other costumers I had forgotten to put it up by the cash register. I realized what I had done when we got out to the parking lot but was so scared the police would come for me I didn't say a word. Even at that age I knew it was a crime to take something that didn't belong to me. Most kids do. I didn't eat one stick of that gum I felt so guilty and then forgot the incident until I was an adult. I went back to the same Wal-Mart got a pack of Strawberry gum, told the manager what I had done 15 years previous and cleared my conscience by paying for it :)

A few years ago, I bought a gift bag at Walmart and when I got home, I put it with the gift wrapping stuff. It was several weeks later when I opened up the gift bag to use it, and found "how to train your dragon" stickers that had fallen in there. By the time I could have returned them, the store no longer carried them, so their code wouldn't scan. They're still stuck to the front of my fridge, unopened. I can't use them out of a sense of guilt.

The publicity should be enough to encourage them to learn from their mistakes. And this wouldn't be defamation anyway. Defamation is written - slander is the spoken version. But with slander, you need to demonstrate the defendants knowingly accused you falsely - and you have to demonstrate damages to your reputation (usually leading to financial losses). As no other customers are likely to have known the child, it would be hard to argue her reputation was damaged.

Clearly you're ignorant of the law. Hope you're not a law student with that knowledge. Worse, I hope you're not an attorney and giving out such incompetent legal advise. Defamation is either Slander or libel you imbecile. Damaging the reputation of another by slander or libel is defamation. "knowingly accused you falsely." Again, a total imbecile. You're applying a higher standard to a private party. A higher standard applies to public figures. This is a private person. The standard is lower. Jesus you and those 19 people are imbeciles. As stupid as the idiot who falsely accused this little girl.

This happened to me one day. A family member's friend owned a local store and would let me come in and choose certain toys that wouldn't be "sellable" if that's even a word, if they were returns. This went on for a couple of years, until one day a new employee (a teenager) accused me of shoplifting at 4 years old. Despite being told that I was able to "take" those toys, she wouldn't believe it. We brought the manager and owner out and the teenager wouldn't apologize. We talked it over for a little while, and my mother and I were told to leave. We got called back in the next day, a security person that worked there and knew me talked to the girl and she still wouldn't budge. All because of her; we didn't go back. Kicker of the story, she got fired literally a month or so later for shoplifting. :)

She will always remember this unfortunately and her trust of people will be changed. When I was about ten years old and my sister 13 we went into a store while my mother was in the store next to it. While we were there a person kept following us around and I felt very uncomfortable. We started to leave the store and he stopped us stating we had stole something, which we didn't. I was a little braver than my sister and I said, I am going to get Mom, which I did. She and I came back to the store and my Mother told that person off. Its something you never forget when a person, in front of many others, calls you a thief.

I mean, sometimes kids unintentionally pocket things from stores (gum, candy, small toys, trinkets, etc) cuz they're not being supervised enough by their parents and forget to put it back or they think it's free. I've seen it happen numerous times working retail, it happens and it's usually not that serious. But even if she DID take something, to just treat the child like that out in the open rather than talk to the parent and take them back to the management office to sort things out in private? Here is what you should "see" before accusing someone of theft. 1- See the person chose an item. 2- See the person conceal the item. 3- See the person walk out of the store without paying for the item. The parents could have sued the security guard, his employer and the store.

this happened to me one time and I sobbed in tears because I didn’t steal anything... I remember my whole family had my back and my dad yelled at her so the worker got scared and apologized 😂😂 but honestly it was super embarrassing and I was humiliated

Please file a lawsuit for defamation. When an agent of a department store negligently accuses you of a crime - you can sue for false light/defamation. Placing your character in bad light.

And little girl - if you're reading this 11 years from now - remember that the statute of limitations doesn't apply while you're a minor. You're right to sue is preserved until you reach adulthood.

I remember I saw a kid returning packets of ketchup at McDonald's because he thought it was free but someone told him it wasn't.. The crew grabs a lot of packets and give it to the young child as it is actually free ☺️

I've worked store security several times in past years, and the primary rule is that the would-be shoplifter HAS TO WALK OUTSIDE the store without paying for the item(s) before they can be accused of stealing. That is absolutely essential---there's nothing that indicates theft if they're just carrying an item in their pocket, and especially with very young children, it's vital to NEVER make the accusation prior to the person exiting the store, when it then does become theft. If it's a little child, it's very important to just calmly and quietly take the parent(s) and the child aside and get to the truth of the matter; it's not unusual for a child to forget about the item in their pocket, and it's not unusual for a parent to just take them back inside and pay for it.

They sent an email apology, couldn't even write a real letter or make a phone call? Nowhere does it say the store apologized in any way but did send a damage control email to the TV station? Falsely accusing little girls is not so surprising now, neither Neptune or Ardenes has a heart.

I stole paddle balls from Wal Mart when I was five I told my mom, but we were already gone so she said just keep it. But i still felt really guilty up untill I was 8, so my after school program does this thing where cops shop with us for school stuff, so I told the cop, almost crying, that I stole paddle balls and would I have to go to jail. He said no and just don't do it again. I'm thirteen now and I've never stole anything since

dark gamer I know right? News today consist of minor incidents that happened to cotton wool wrapped schnauflakes. I guess they don't know what counts as important anymore.

RainbowPurge19 Nah, it isn't. Something similar happened to me when I was a little girl, several years ago. Did I get traumatized for life? No. In fact, I remember about it and laugh about how silly it was of the employee to believe such a thing. Just nowadays, kids are so spoiled and coddled by their parents, that they end up being little entitled drama queens (and drama kings, although I don't know if this is a legit term).

I was shopping at a store with my friends and one of my friends told us to pick a candy because we didn’t have any money and she was going to pay for us. My friend had a reusable shopping bag with her because we have to have those type of bags because they don’t have plastic ones. So my friend put it in the shopping bag as it was a basket for us to put our things in there and the lady was stalking us and banned us for life even though we explained everything to her. Me and my friend not the one with the bag, told our parents and both of our mom took us back to the place and talked to the employee and now we are unbanned but the other girl isn’t. It’s unfair because people where I live use there bags are baskets or carts all the time and don’t get the treatment I got. And there was actually someone stealing in the store at the time and I told the employee but she said I was faking it.
