I just purchased my SECOND KUAT Sherpa rack. The first was a Sherpa 1, and it served me well for about 10 years until someone backed into it while I was away on a ride. Originally, I purchased the Sherpa because I was impressed with the quality of the construction, and the fact that the main frame was aluminum instead of steel. The aluminum made it lighter to manipulate while mounting, and reduced the corrosion risk. After 10 years of use, the rack showed very little wear, and performed flawlessly. The new Sherpa continues to impress with the quality of construction, and has also fixed the few weak points that the original Sherpa had. On one of my vehicles, I couldn’t fold the rack up because it wouldn’t clear the bumper. The security cable was also a little awkward to use. The new rack fixed all of that by redesigning the wheel holding platform that use to touch the car bumper, and the security cable now attaches to the rack in a much more elegant fashion. I continue to be impressed.

OMG, thank God I found your video. I've been trying to put this thing together for 2-days because I took everything out of the box. Thank you for showing us how to assembly when you make that dreadful mistake! Excellent instructions!

Thanks for your review! I’ve been looking for a rack for a few weeks now and my worst fear is losing it in traffic and it seems well worth the money, so thanks for your honest review!! Think I’ll be getting this soon.

Thank you for this very informative tutorial! I bought a Kuat Sherpa 2.0 and put it together today while watching your video. Thanks to you, I didn't make the mistake of taking everything out of the box! For me, watching your video made the job much easier than trying follow the user guide. The user guide recommends using a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to 15ft-lbs. I didn't see you do this, so I was wondering if this is really necessary?

As soon a i saw the nice wrench it came with i'm thinking probably more then i want to spend for a bike rack 😁

I am wondering where you had the rack installed. I am trying to find a good installation place for less than $200. Any recommendations in the Philadelphia, Pa area.

How solid is it when driving off-road on bumpy terrain?

Nice review. Still thinking between the Sherpa 2.0 and the 1up.
@drmoynihan4 жыл бұрын
What did you decide? When I saw the 1up it seemed that the hitch bolt was very flimsy, but this Serpa 2.0 has a full sized one. I am still deciding - but lifting my full suspension bike into the back of the pickup canopy is getting a bit heavier each time. :)
@danielchapter701284 жыл бұрын
drmoynihan same conundrum for me!! Just got a Trek Procaliber, and wish I’d gotten a rack first. I really like the 1up for many reasons but like the more secure fit of the Kuat hitch pin and tube integrated ball bearing. The Kuat will likely win for me since I can get one delivered in 6 days whereas right now 1Up has a back order ship date 45 days away.

A third wild card entry I’m considering is the Saris SuperClam EX2. Far less money than the other two, but also I’m seeing some mixed reviews in the quality department some saying parts are not holding up after one year. Don’t like that.

I have a question! I am curious how the Sherpa looks in the backup camera of your Outback, and what model year that is. I have a 2023 Outback on the way and would love a Sherpa if it is DECENT with the backup camera.

3 months ago I bought a KUA Rack and it has been the worst experience I have ever had, the bikes have fallen in the middle of the road and it is very unsafe. The support has not been as expected.

What wheel size did you load onto the bike rack? It looks like the back tire hangs off a little. Did that cause any issues?
@BeautyandtheBeastMTB2 жыл бұрын
27.5 and it is designed to hang off there, and to accommodate larger wheels.

Thanks for the review. Are you still able to use the rear view camera when the rack is folded up without bikes on the Outback?
@BeautyandtheBeastMTB4 жыл бұрын
Our outback does not have a camera so unfortunately I do not know.
@forgedrods154 жыл бұрын
Kind of but not really, you can still kind of see through the rack but barely. Also the back up sensors go crazy because they think you’re about to hit something. You should be fine though.
@johnnychem64454 жыл бұрын
Does the exhaust and the heat cause any issues for the rack when it’s not in use when driving and tilted vertically?
@BeautyandtheBeastMTB4 жыл бұрын
Not that we have noticed. It sits pretty high above and away from the exhaust. Only issue we had is we have had to retighten the anti sway every 6 months or so.
@jovs1762 жыл бұрын
Can you help me. We just had our sherpa kuat and it is shaky our bikes even hit the ground while my husband is driving. We don’t know which part should we tighten to fix it we’re both newbie when it comes to these things
@BeautyandtheBeastMTB2 жыл бұрын
There should be a round knob where the rack slide into the hitch. Turn it to the right to tighten.
@Hahsnjs2 жыл бұрын
@@BeautyandtheBeastMTB You can also use the locking pin to tighten it even more. Hand tighten it first, then stick the locking pin in the middle of the round knob and turn clockwise to eliminate the sway even more.

When folded up is your rear license plate viewable?
@e2U3 жыл бұрын
why are the nuts and bolts all silver and not the color of the unit...sad non-thought detail.
@lillyspops3 жыл бұрын
Once you “wrench” a nut or bolt that has been painted, it kills the paint and looks like junk.

I would toss the lock cable because it is very easy to cut. Thieves will be watching for you if you use cheap lock 🔐 cables
