I wouldn't be surprised if Kisuke and Aizen knew of or even met before Kisuke even met Yoruichi. It makes sense given their deep rivalry and two sides of the same coin theme between them. Only difference between them is that Urahara knows his limitations while Aizen's massive ego is a green light. We definitely need Yoruichi and Urahara's history, even if it will be dark considering they were assassins for the decadent aristocracy.

Problem with many villain backstories is that they are trying to excuse\justify the villain. I think Aizen deserve backstory, but it should be about how or why he became as strong as yama and monk, not about why he is "evil". And to tell the truth, Aizen is not a villain. He just wanted to stand at the top. It's not like Yamamoto or Ichibē are any better. They both also just powerful enough to beat anyone into submission.
@Cas-ed9ob14 күн бұрын
His true goal may not have been villainous, but the things he did were incredibly evil. I don't think you can say he wasn't a villain just because his end goal wasn't inherently bad. The ends don't justify the means kind of thing.
@redaerf2b41414 күн бұрын
@@Cas-ed9ob I doubt that yama and monk were somehow selected or appointed to their posts. Sword law ruled the soul society and still rules. Well, Kioraku is to weak to ignore the other capitans, but yamamoto could have probably beat all of them combined. But he is not a fool, so he and monk created central 46 to be the screen. Let's imagine Aizen come clean from the start and not hide his powers. That makes him a threat, because he might be able to kick Yamas ass and even compete with monk. He very well might have just become next "power behind soul king throne" like monk is currently.

And he wanted to become even stronger than possible for shinigami, combining his shinigami powers with power of a hollow (ironically he did not succeed despite crating ichigo)
@Cas-ed9ob14 күн бұрын
@redaerf2b414 The soul society was ruled by sword law, but the land used to be lawless. It is not anymore. Aizen couldn't have revealed his plans because the whole reason the soul society exists is BECAUSE the soul kings is where he is. The soul society would not let aizen uproot that. Yama may have had to fight him, but ultimately, he would have been put in front of central 46 for the decision on what to do with him. The central 46 didn't exist when Yama was young and the first iteration of the gotei was around. But they are now the ruling body, even above head captain.
@redaerf2b41414 күн бұрын
@@Cas-ed9ob Ok, but who told Aizen was going to do something to soul king? Aizen is not an idiot, he obviously knew that world existed the way it existed only thanks to soul king turned into "that thing" how Aizen called it. Monk and Yama are ultimately two top shinigami in existence, everyone else is several times below them. Central 46 maybe have legal authority over Yama, but they simply can't force him do anything. They have no power except bureaucracy.Monk is simply above everyone. He ignored being killed by Yhwach and popped into existence. So while on the surface its Central 46 and Soul king himself that rules, in reality it's still just two overpowered dudes who can ignore the system but let it work against their potential threats. And Aizen just thought that he can overpower\outsmart them. To be the strongest.

I'll actually push back on this one a bit. While on one hand, keeping a character's backstory or some aspect of the plot and or setting deliberately clouded in mystery is something that is undebiably effective and good. This is the big part of what makes Aizen so magbetic now as his appearance and the constant teasing thst he knows a lot of things lore wise that we the audienxe would like to know and he has motives that we the audience woukd like to be privy to really makes the audience pay attention when he speaks and when he interacts with someone. You can even give this sort of character a name, a walking plot device of sorts, except the purpose of this plot device is to not actually be used, but to constabtly tease what it can do, but be very careful what you allow it to do ir say. And if you do this well, that character will be very interesting and at the center of lots of discussions about the work because quite frankly they are at the center, but because you don't let it say or explain much or give too much away, it's going draw a lot of effort from.the adienxe to connect the dots of what you have allowed it to say and do, because of the gravity of the implications behind them. That as it's own thing is good. However the idea of not wanting a villain to be a relatable character? That is what I'll push back on and say is bizaare, weird, and even dumb. This doesn't affect Aizen because Aizen is cool moreso because of the "if it is hidden, then itnis the flower" thing. But not wanting your character to be relatable and simply wanting to be evil just because evil. That is genuinely weird. Like a desire to return to characters simply being ontologically evil because they are ontologically evil. Like why would you devolve literature to that point? The writer of Dangan Ronpa voiced a similar thing of disliking villains being relatable and so that's why they handled Enoshima Junko the way that they did and it just struck me as stupid. Not as in "wow it's lame we don't have a real or satisfactory backstory for this character" but dumb as in "dude why do you think a villain's backstory needs to be tragic? Genuinely. Skill issue. Why are you even locked into the mindset that your villain needs specifically a tragic backstory? This is a you thing. Write an ambitious backstory or a complicated backstory or a happy backstory. Do you think it's impossible to have a villain be interesting if they have a backstory? Do you think thebackstory has to be tragic? Also a big one, do you think the backstory you give them has to or even will make them (more) relatable? You can write a genuinely bizaare character that no one understands despite their backstory being right there. A very sneaky way to do this is to write a neurodivergent character but don't tell the audience that you wrote them that way (and imply in the plot that they are normal). It's possible for people to come to wildly bizaare conclusions on major life and political decisions with many of the same social inputs. This assumption that the villaon's backstory must be tragic for them to come to a different conclusion than the hero is just a symptom of a bigger problem that it's assumed that everyone has to fundamebtally think the same way or come to the same conclusions given the same inputs and THAT is the thing writers shoild want to get free of. IMO Junko could have been written better if the author had a solid grasp on how to write a neurodivergent character (she essentially outright kinda was one iirc), and for Aizen, even though Kubo has kept a lot on tge dark, to me, it's kinda obvious that Aizen's think is that at his core he is just a very ambitious person, and that doesnt make him sympathryic or evil and doesnt even need to make him relayable. He can be psychotically ambitious and you can write that as "that's just the way he is" and that works. Like genuinely imagine, take Ichigo Kurosaki, we have the Ichigo we know and love. Now imagine if Ichigo was a clinical psychopath. Like from his birth. How would he have turned out? The same? Hell no. Would he be sympathetic? Probably hell no. And there wpipd be no need to hide his backstory. In fact showing his backstory would probsbly maote him even less relatable, because the vasy majority of people are not clinical psychopaths. And no please don't just run with that and write every villain ever to be a clinical psychopath that shit gets old (also don't make another joker clone please). There's more that can be done there. Really! Use imagination! That's what I wanna push back on. Keeping something in the plot shrouded on mystery to captivate the audience is fine. But not wanting a villain to have a backstory simply because you don't want them to be relatable or have a aob story that redeems them? Genuinely just a skill issue. Or maybe the editors all insist villaons have tragic backstories for the trope so the only way to get out of that as a mangaka is to refuse to write a backstory at all. If that's the case that's genuinely just dumb. One more time, your villain backstory doesn't need to be trsgic! Your villain can be a regular ass dude! Nor is your villain necessarily going to be more or less relatable simply by having a backstory! This is just literary bunk! Aizen is just unnaturally ambitious and that unnatural ambition and talent predisposed him to the path he ealked and the things he did. Change my mind and or try to convince me that that would deminish him in any way? Or like not say anything that's already freaking obvious. And no him being an ambitious person doesn't necessarily mean he's evil, fight me! Soap box moment but I do genuinely think that stance on writing villains is stupid.
@elaizakaguya463112 күн бұрын
More like no matter the backstory people start looking for relatability Whatever you write, people will try to give it a deeper meaning than what it really is, hell in this comment section alone it's already happening so why bother Honestly I appreciate how even with such charisma Aizen is still shredded in mystery. Any other author would've been tempted to give the character a backstory but Kubo is firm on his words.
@occultninja412 күн бұрын
@elaizakaguya4631 My view on it would be that since it's happening anyway (which I would sai is happening because a lot of aspects of him are by this point unavoidably obvious due to how involved he is in a lot of things) there's nothing to gain or lose by giving or not giving him a backstory in that regard. You're basically saying that Kubo tried an approach that didn't work, and to be fair it might just be impossible to work thst way because in order to kerp Aizen entirely mysteripus youf hsbe to just stop writing the show or kust not ever dump sny exposition on certain things thst could lead to indirectly figuring out more about Aizen and other characters. And there thst gets really bad because then you're trying to take away the audience's ability to think and piece thigns together and solve a mystery on their own, because you the author just don't want them to have an answer. And the reason for that would be that you'd fear tht due to your writing, you'll write your self into a corner (in eventuality once enough lore tidbits are hit) where you essnetislly have to confirm that a character is a certain way because trying to svoid it will lead to inconsistencies thst your audience will pick up on. And my atanxe would be, just let the audience have that. That is not at all in any way a bad thing. You're stomping all over a good thing. Do you want your audience to stop thinking? That's tantamount to wanting them to not be interested. His whole if it is hidden then it is the flower thing is nice and I respect that, but going out of your way to keep something hidden to the point that you start hurting more than you controbute is weird. You don't have to ever directly reveal anything, it's fine to gradually drip feed puzzle pieces, knowing that evemtually you'll have written yourself into a point where there's only a few ways it all fits together or youll have a incinsistency or contradiction. Id invite that really and lrt the fans do their thing. Tsking that away, and warping the storynto that degree, because you kust dont want to ever ever ever be in a situstion where large chunls def a character's backstory are indirectly deducible is, an approach, but it still feels very questionable. Like it's not that big of a deal. No you don't have to spoon feed his backstory, but you don't have to grind the resding and eriting and intrepretive process to a halt to avoid it at all costs either. I guess whstnim saying is that, m not convinced it's a "good" writing approach at all to not want villains to ever ever ever have a backstory. But if it's literally just his perfsonal preference and thats it then cool. It is his story and I'll like it either way. But I'm also gonna keep connecting dots and reading vetween the gaps either way. Lole for instance how is the redt of the vizards get to the royal place in the last episode of the TYBW anime. Kubo could just decide to not ever explain how Rose and Kensei got up there. But imagine going out of your way to rule out every possible obvious conclusion you could draw to explain it just to keep it a mystery. Like no it's fine if the fans come to the conclusion that Mayuri transported them up in healing pods or something and we just didn't see it. Let the audience flex that critical thinking. *Please* don't take away or punish critical or analytical thinking why would you do that, is my main ppimt to that. And also don't confuse analyzing a character and trying to relate to them. You can also understand (lore wise) but not relate to (motivations and methodology) a character. Enoshima Junko is an example. We have a backatory for her (kinda). She's still bizaare and makes no sense to the point she'sore of a plot device than a character.

That fallacy does relate to many stories that focus on the villain (as opposed to antagonist) history. It restrains the writers' ability to reasonably introduce camp, which is largely what we enjoy, to the villain personality and behavior. A villain who has a tragic backstory doesn't explain evil laughs, smirks, gaudy costumes, evil lairs, large personalities, etc. Even a villain like Sephiroth, when we're given his backstory (which is crazy insane) doesn't explain why all of a sudden he has evil cackles and smirks etc. For me personally, I hate Disney villain backstories. Scar's backstory doesn't explain the Be Prepared song, for example.

Yamamoto is prideful. Shunsui is probably reminded of Yamamoto with his missing eye. Nanao has her first battle injury after she gains her Zanpaktou and develops her bond with her uncle. Kira was patched together with the souls of his comrades so maybe there’s survivor’s guilt. Fits with his sword’s theme of being repentant.

Aizen is a "nice guy". I don't want to hear his backstory. He's full of crap. Every one of hiss complaints about being unable to relate because he's just too awesome he personally refutes when he specifically names people who he is not equal to. He wants to be so powerful that he cannot relate to others to validate his own delusions. He's just smart enough that devising a way to do that is actually easier than getting some therapy and making some friends.

3:40 “If it is hidden it is the flower” I absolutely hate this concept, and I hate how lacking in lore so many Japanese made stories are because of it. They have this annoying habit of refusing to flesh out their universes, leaving character backstories unknown, rarely going in depth with important concepts and their origins. I don’t mind if they tease us with something as long as it gets revealed later on. You can have unsolved mysteries in your universe, sure, but the backstory of a major villain? Come on. Just because you are too lazy to flesh out your universe more doesn’t make it uber deep. Like explain to us why soul society is Japanese themed, do only Asian people go there when they die? What happens to all the white and black people? Why do they have computers and technology in a spiritual realm thats based on ancient Japan? How do their computers work? Does everyone speak the same language? How often do Shinigami reproduce? Are they all just asexual or something? Do they need to eat? Ect.

Being lazy is why he not making backstory for them would rather spend a full page on close ups of feet,heads,hnds,ect this is why the last arc was rushed in manga at the end wasting full chapters on nothing the anime is like 4 manga chapter per anime episode while one piece is half a manga chapter per anime episode.

I think Bleach and Dragon Ball are only two animes were villians doesn't have a melodramatic backstory or a tragic incident which caused them to become villian ( basically not trying to gain sympathy ) They were born evil They are evil and challenges against the ideologies of the main characters And i like it very much I mean every villian kn Naruto were noble and kind people before becoming villain i was tired of that shit

@VictorB-tq3ju14 күн бұрын
First off, the backstory doesn't have to be sympathetic. He can always have been the way he is due to how he realised that he is "better" than everyone. So that excuse is mute. Nagato was given a backstory cos he's not the final baddy of the series. Black Zetsu wasn't given a sympathetic backstory (even though i think he's the main antagonist albeit a shit one)

I don't see how anyone can like Aizen (without they themselves being off their rocker). I've never cared for Aizen--not cool, not memorable, doesn't even come off as evil to me. Just boring. The best thing he did was give Shinji Hollow powers (my fave character) but even then, I'd likely like Shinji even without Hollow abilities... I guess I'm grateful to Aizen for the Espadas though...
