It will be interesting what the crane scale reads now. I put mine up to 2000 this spring, and am much happier with the lift increase. I have the new style flat face hydraulic fittings, and bought the gauge and quick connect from Amazon for about $35, if anyone else is looking to check theirs. Shims are only about 50 cents each from the dealer. One warning when doing this. You must have ballast on the back of the tractor or you will just lift the back wheels off the ground. Without ballast, you are putting ALL the weight of the load you're lifting and the weight of the tractor, on your front axle, where the ballast puts more weight on the stronger rear axle.
@BiffsEquipment
@BiffsEquipment 3 жыл бұрын
You got it Ron, it def shouldn’t be done with our proper ballast, these machines are extremely light in the rear stock so increasing the pressure to a bx with no ballast will actually hurt you rather than help you. I’m excited to see the crane scale now as well, I’ll do that video soon. Thanks for watching!

Not Quite. Adding rear ballast keeps the back of the tractor on the ground, but because you now can lift more with the FEL, you actually put more load on the front axle. However, you get stability by adding pressure on the rear axle, since the front axle pivots.

Sure thing, do you have a hydraulic pressure gauge yet? If not you can get them on “bxpanded.com, or you can even find them on eBay and Amazon with the proper quick coupler you’d need for your 23s. Make sure you get one with the appropriate flat face coupler and not the pioneer coupler as you have the newest bx.

Good Vlog. I've been toying with increasing the working pressure on my 2004 BX23D since I bought it new but have always abided by the "don't fix it if it ain't broke" & worked with what it could do. That said I don't see me going to a larger B or LX machine and I definitely feel the need for "Mo power" so I may finally bite the bullet and go for it. I'll be watching for a follow up to see how your upgrade went. Carry on.

I hear you man, yah lots of guys who own the BX who maybe don’t want a larger tractor or can’t afford a larger tractor at the moment like to do this to get a little more power out of it.. 2,000psi is pretty well known as being safe for these Kubota BX so if you were to do it I would go up to 2,000 and no higher if you were worried about breakage. I ran mine at 2,000psi for many months and through many very hard jobs and i had no issues. Now I’m above whats recommended by many at 2,250psi and plan to even do 2,500 at some point if I can find eniough ballast. I just did a job with it today and it for SURE had even more power.. but even with all the weight I have i was picking up the rear tires today slightly now with the added pressure. Making sure your properly ballasted is KEY to the safety of you and your tractor. Best of luck.

Awesome! I will def keep you posted Seth and you keep us posted as well if you’d like. I already did a job since then I’m working on editing the video and getting it uploaded shortly. The tractor deffinelty had a lot more power, breaking out heavy wet crushed limestone was MUCH easier, so much so that I was getting monster buckets, my front tires rarely went flat before but after the pressure increase my rims were about touching the ground lol. So it was def a great improvement tho I notice I’ll need more rear ballast now as my rear tires were lifting off the ground now again when it use to stay fairly planted. So as far as the pressure increase goes it def made a power difference in lift 👍🏻

Thanks man, yah it is definitely easy to do, you just gotta be sure to be properly ballasted as the bx is extremely light in the rear with out weight, if you turn it up with out ballast all you’ll ever do is lift the rear tires which I feel is the biggest reason Kubota leaves it so low to begin with. @@BiffsEquipment I agree. On the occasions that I don't have the backhoe on, Ive got a land plane or something heavy back there. Ive played with the idea of building a ballast box. Just to allow me into tighter areas. Especially doing brush or small tree work with the grapple. The issue that I hate is you can have a whole arsenal of attachments. If your not working at home or near by, you can't bring them all with you.
@BiffsEquipment
@BiffsEquipment 3 жыл бұрын
@@netpoke58 yah you got that right man. But that’s good you have many attachments to help you depending on the job. Rear attachments work well for ballast aside from them getting in the way from time to time like you said. Why don’t you build a 3-point hitch weight bracket like I did? I did it for less than $60 and it works great, only problem is you then gotta buy the weights but they aren’t much.. plus then you can adjust the weight according to what your doing, and can easily remove the weight bracket with the weights if you have a quick hitch.. I made a video on how I built mine.. in the thumbnail it says “save money” or something like that, I forget what the title was but it’s maybe 15 or so videos back if you wanna check it out 👍🏻

What lever did you use to test the pressure? The loader? Is it important to have a pressure gage to put the shims in? Or your just trying to see the increase or change?,
@BiffsEquipment
@BiffsEquipment 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, Typically if you insert the gauge in the forward most coupler for your loader then to activate that exact function you'll push the loader joystick forward to the best of my knowledge. Every one of those 4 couplers is a different direction on the loader stick so whichever port you decide to install the pressure gauge into you'll just have to move your loader stick around until you have found which direction you need to push the stick to activate that given valve that the pressure gauge is connected to. As for having a gauge when adding shims I would say its a must because with out having a gauge you have no clue what your pressure is at to begin with and don't know how much your pressure will be going up after adding the shims, you have to be careful not to go too high or you can hurt your hydraulic pump or hoses. Its recommended that you stay at 2000psi or lower.. I went higher only because I fully know the risks involved here and am sure to watch out for any signs of early failure. Hope this helps. You can find the pressure gauge along with the shims in a well put together kit at "BxPanded.com"

Did you notice any more whine from the hydro after you raised the pressure. I did on the L2501. Also, I know where you can get a tilt cylinder for the BX - there's a place in Tennessee that make and sells a really high quality one reasonably. If you still have the King Cutter box blade shown in your channel wallpaper, you MIGHT be able to tilt it enough to use it to cut drainage ditches if you can get enough lift out of it.

Hey Kim, the shims will differ on every machine, I can’t tell you how many because not only is everything relief tension slightly different but every tractor is also at a different pressure than the rest.. so depending on your starting pressure and spring you may need more or less than I used so the best thing to do is to just buy yourself a pressure gauge, check it, then add a few shims at a time while continuing to test it and stop when you get to the pressure you want.. most guys can get to the pressure they want with a .3mm shim, a .4mm shim, a .2mm shim and a .1mm shim.. I’d start with buying thise and slowly add them till you get where you wanna be 👍🏻

My question is since I have a quick attach system in which all four couplers come off at the same time, do I connect the gauge to the first coupler that operates the loader and make sure I don’t operate any of the other functions so I don’t spray hydraulic fluid everywhere cause all four couplers with be off. I can’t take just one coupler off to check the pressure with the quick attach system is my worry.

@@haganrichmond ahh I see, well all the fittings should be standard 1/4” pipe thread, so you would have to cap off each line that your not using and then the one you will be using you’ll thread your gauge on using a pipe nipple or some type of adaptor depending on what thread your gauge is. You can’t leave them open you have to at least cap them.. and once your ready to test it if you have the gauge on the first port like I did then you’ll wanna move your loader joystick directly up

Hey buddy! Sorry I’m just now seeing this comment iv been so busy lately, the hydraulic increase worked excellent on my last job! I had a ton more power and a lot more breakout force which was what I was after the most as I often am working with crushed limestone which is some of the heaviest stone around. On my job the crushed limestone was soaking wet so it made it that much heavier yet I was getting monster buckets bigger buckets than I have ever been able to scoop up, so much so that my front rims were about touching the ground (I’ll have to increase my front tire pressure now). I even lifted my rear tires off the ground quite a bit even with all the rear ballast I have so I’m going to have to buy a few more suitcase weights to add on the back now to accommodate for the extra added power. So far so good and it’s been very reliable! New video will be coming soon, thanks dor watching and let me know if/when you do yours! I think you’ll be very impressed when you do Cuz like you said after awhile the relief valve spring can slowly soften over time lowering your psi and if it’s never been checked it’s def a good idea to do so 👍🏻

@@BotaTrac a backblade would be great to take on these types of jobs with me, I plan on fabricating a cart soon so that removing my weight bracket with the weights still on it will be a simple task (prolly gonna be my next video is fabbing it up) so once that is made it will be no problem to switch from my rear weight bracket to a grader box. I don’t suspect I would have to run weights with the boxblade as the box blades Usually weigh quite a bit and the weight is much farther back as well but if I ever did do that and found it wasn’t enough I could certainly build a little bracket off the back of the boxblade to accept suitcase weights. I would love to get a proper boxblade next year, just money has been tight and I’m also going to need a larger trailer if I plan to leave it on like we are talking about.. so with the expense of a boxblade would also have to come that expense of a new trailer so it’s gonna be costly but I plan to upgrade my trailer early next spring and by end of spring next year I plan to have a much better trailer so I can run more attachments next year. The 3 Point on my 2350 seems to have lost lift capacity. I can't pick things up that I know I put there with it. Fluid is topped up and fine. I haven't noticed anything with the loader Although it -may- be a bit slower but then again I haven't paid much attention to it. Will upping the Hydraulic pressure increase the lift on the 3 point or is that a different system?
@BiffsEquipment
@BiffsEquipment 3 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy, how long ago did you set the 3 point hitch implements down where it will now no longer lift them back up? Sounds like you could have a more serious issue Because hydraulic pressure shouldn’t drop that fast. When was the last time the tractor had a transmission/hydraulic fluid change and have you pulled the filter screen that’s located inside the transmission to see if that’s clogged cuz if that screener gets clogged up your hydraulic pressure will drop as flow to the pump will drop.. I would say start by changing the fluid and filter, along with removing and cleaning that filter screener. Changing your loader pressure as I show in this video should not give your 3 point any more pressure as I believe the rear 3 point is on a different relief valve. Plus even if it did I don’t think you would be doing yourself any favors cuz to me it sounds like you have a bigger problem that’s happening if pressure has dropped that rapidly. Hope this helps buddy, sorry I’m just now seeing your comment sometimes KZbin doesn’t show me all my comments till days later 👍🏻

correct me if I'm wrong but I see 1 issue with this, the total system is rated at a specific pressure, your showing a pressure at 0 load, now your upping the pressure at 0 load, when you then use something like a grapple or lift a rock your total system pressure can now spike much much higher, way above the system ability. I could be wrong by this but I believe I'm correct.
@BiffsEquipment
@BiffsEquipment 3 жыл бұрын
The system itself was indeed under full load.. What we were testing here was the hydraulic pressure and at which that pressure would be relieved at.. The only way to check hydraulic pressure is to dead head the system by putting it under a full load which increases the pressure so high that the hydraulic relief valve kicks in and bleeds the pressure back off... the only way to do that is to put the hydraulics under full load. So to answer if this was tested under a load, It was.. When testing the pressure your forcing all of the hydraulic fluid into the gauge.. the fluid then has no where to go so the pressure gets higher and higher until it finally gets relieved by the relief valve.. then whatever the reading showed on your gauge as the pressure was being relived will be your true hydraulic pressure.. This isn't showing back pressure like a grapple could do if pulling hard on something, that type of pressure would be even greater yes but that's not what we are doing in this video.. What your talking about is using something like a grapple that can apply pressure backwards into the system by the grapple/clam putting force back on the hydraulic ram creating more pressure in your system then what it typically sees... This pressure would normally be trapped tho between your 3rd function valve and your grapple which is why you always want to rate your hydraulic hoses for more pressure than your system can output to be safe and its also why hydraulic hoses are over rated from the factory. Hope this helps

I have done TONS of jobs with this tractor since the very first time I increased the pressure above what Kubota calls “factory” and I have yet to have a single issue, no leaks, no blown lines, no bent cylinders.. I have worked this tractor to death and it just takes it and smiles.. every time I think I’m gonna break it I don’t lol. It’s been a great machine and in the last few years I have put over 450 hours hard worked on it. As for the hydraulics drifting.. this happens with all tractors and models.. once the pump is no longer running the hydraulics will slowly settle.. it’s just something they all do. @@BiffsEquipment dam right man, plus they're so nimble no other tractor could ever get in the spots/terrain these do with ease. And as far as the bucket drift actually no many Deere's do not, yet most Kubotas do, especially the small ones. Honestly idk why exactly but it may be the added dexterity and flawless control Kubotas are so well k own for where the Deere isn't as smooth they have tighter valve? Idk the full truth. But I will say (and it really is 100% true) that my Deere 1050 front bucket filled with bricks I forgot it up when we got rain outta nowhere I rushed to get everything under cover and dry, the tractor sat in my back couple acres for over 2 weeks bucket doesn't settle an inch. Could be the fact of much larger idk but my neighbors a farmer with a 40hp Kubota and he obviously loves it, and his hydraulics settle like mad which is one of the biggest and only things he hates about it. But in reality we all know don't ever have real weight or objects in bucket or whatever up 10' in the air then shut the tractor off,or even stand under it while running, so the real world here it shouldn't be an issue. Just one of those things that makes us wonder "wtfs the difference" lol

Hey Chris thanks for watching, yes i’v actually been at 2,250psi for nearly a year now, working the living crap out of my BX and I have not had a single issue. A friend of mine saw I didn’t have any issues so he also went up to 2,200.. just gotta be careful is all and make SURE you have enough rear ballast so you can keep yourself safe.
