I would second guess that belt hitting the hose. I bet that fan hit while driving it real hard.

I think loosening the belt also moves the fan away from the hose. I don't think he was saying the belt hit the hose

I think the electric fan is the right choice, but whenever it's running it's robbing power as well and possibly more than the mechanical fan thanks to conversion losses. However, the electrical can doesn't have to run all the time and it's tightly shrouded to pull efficiently through the radiator, so it's probably less power overall. It definitely robs power from the engine when it's is on, though.

Build a off road rig from the tires in. The tires are the last gear in your rig. So everything revolves around you tire choice. Secondly, you would be nuts to even get that rig on a highway. You can have a good off road rig or a good highway rig,but you can’t have both. Lol

As a former OTR driver pulling reefer, the sound of that engine lulled me to sleep many a time. Unless I was pulling a frozen load and then the engine would cycle off/on at higher rpms. People hated us reefer drivers at the rest areas and truck stops.

I'm no youtube expert (and i hate them too). That being said, you do need to have your engine running at least 140 degrees for a prolonged period in order to burn off the moisture in the oil. Oil gets contaminated with combustion byproducts and turns into a mild acid. This will eat at internal components like valve springs, etc.

My diesel tractors prefer a faster idle. I usually do most chores between 1200-1500 RPM, unless I’m using the PTO.

Very nicely done. Don't pay any mind to the KZbin experts or armchair quarterbacks. It seems like a solid build, which will probably last a really long time. I've owned and abused Jeeps and Kubota tractors for 30 years, and both are awesome. Stay safe, and God bless

I was wondering about the idle myself, and personally I think I would put some more time in engine mounts and go for a lower idle. The high idle would drive me nuts quicker than a little more vibration. Still a great build and I wish I could do something very similar. Thanks for sharing this with us!

I ran a Ram 1500 with a 4BT Cummins for 8 years. They vibrate like crazy at idle also. I used peterbilt donut mounts on shop built mounts to try to control the vibration. People in the comments are comparing these engines to automobile engines and that is not what they are. These are work engines that are designed for working rpms.

Hi Mate, Just as a side note.!Remember the old Daihatsu jeeps called the “Scat”, I think, a small diesel powered 4 X 4. It has the same track and wheel base as the old Willys Jeeps and as such are a great basis for a re-body with a Willys body. They are one hell of a good little 4 X 4 here Down Undet. Great project as Daihatsu is basically Toyota. Cheers

4:04 My company has a couple of those engines over 50k hours in carrier reefer units. That's 50k engine hours, not unit hours. The units have well over 60k. They get an oil change once a year, probably every 3-4k hours. I'm waiting for one of the units to break badly enough where I can buy the engine for a swap.

First things first. Order a Dayco belt. Period. Anything else is a junk rubber band. I would try to get it in the design that is NOT a top cog, for this application. Once you determine the length, order two more. One to keep in the Jeep and another for stock in your shop. Remember, two is one, one is none. This applies in most cases in life.

No idea why this showed up in my feed ha ha... great video, looks like a fun build! I was a heavy trailer mechanic for a long time, many times when working on refrigerated trailers I would wonder if you could swap one of these into a Suzuki Samurai. Had quite a few samurai in the past built for off road but always struggled with fuel delivery once you get lifted and locked etc. normaly ran 1.6/fuel injection but not much torque in those. This looks like a solid performer, thanks for the video!

I’ve thought for years that it would be cool to power my sedan like a locomotive. My plan was to get a smallish tractor or generator diesel engine and two electric motors. The diesel engine would power a generator that would be connected to a battery bank the batteries/ generator would power the electric motors connected to the front wheels. Was planning on doing this to my old Saturn SL but it rusted away before I could get to work. Maybe a Kubota engine is the heart of my vision.

What benefit does this engine have over a vw tdi that weighs about the same but has way more aftermarket mods?
@BuyFixFlip
@BuyFixFlip Жыл бұрын
To each their own, this engine doesn't require nearly as much firewall work, there is only a need for 1 wire to start this engine. No wiring harness no ecu no electronic gas pedal. The TDI has a rubber timing belt, the kubota has timing gears. I look at the 03 kubota and compare it to a 12v cummins. The tdi has more power and does seem to have a good amount of aftermarket support and can be found pretty much everywhere. It really just depends what you want to do.
@erikkovacs3097
@erikkovacs3097 Жыл бұрын
@@BuyFixFlip What firewall issues are there for this engine conversion? You can get a mechanical rotary injection pump for the TDI (MTDI) that converts it to 1 wire operation. I guess the timing belt is an issue but man is it easier on a longitudinal mounted engine. What kind of adapter plat needs to be used on the Kubota? Some SAE adapter?
@BuyFixFlip
@BuyFixFlip Жыл бұрын
@Erik Kovacs on mine there were none because of my m38 (bolt in floor) I didn't have to modify the firewall at all. On a vw you have to extensively modify the firewall. For the Adapter plate I used the one from Greg at Overland diesel
