That gate opening and closing time is pretty amazing. We have a JD 459 baler with mega wide pickup, high flotation tires and bale ramp. The density is comparable to the Kuhn I would say. It rolls some really tight bales.
@hungary1912964 жыл бұрын
I'm glad this comparison wasn't a crap on one and brag on the other. I've watched videos that would (using your balers for example) say that they Deere baler was old, outdated and doesn't do the job of baling. Then they'd praise up and down on how the Kuhn was a far superior product. I like that it was more of a here's what this one does and what that one does. Good job, keep it going and be safe.

That baler works extremely well! We have a John Deere 458 at the farm where I work, and the bales are a lot less dense. Then again, the faster you drive, the less dense they tend to be, and that's definitely a factor with ours lol

Now I want to see you try out a Vermeer pro series baler. Just from watching this I think I could beat that Kuhn on cycle times. With the Vermeer as soon as the tailgate is up the tractor is moving down the windrow before the gate is even shut. That’s a big advantage in the baling game. Might only be a few seconds but those seconds do add up over a few hundred bales in a days time

Keep up the good work and you are awesome farmer and I hope to be as good as u one day

Guessing that hay on the road was from that last bale without net, possibly. It unrolled when ejected, and the hay rode on the ramp. Possibly some would have been closed/pinched in the gate too (not good possibly). I saw some earlier on the ramp, possibly from when you didn't have the gate closed all the way. If the bale was ejected before the road, I watched the video last night and forget if the road travel was after that. And if that hay was from the baler and not other equipment. I have an old JD 535 baler, 1996 model with the green pickup (last year, better pickup than the earlier ones, rarely plugs or anything, starts easy). Also has the kicker (wouldn't have one without an ejector/ramp or something). It had over 15,000 bales on it when I got it, ...18 years ago.... I only do about 1,000 bales/year (some neighbors do 15,000/year), and I buy several truckloads as well. I've never had a major breakdown with it. I've replaced 4 bearings before they were fully out (caught when I was going through it for the year, they weren't all out, I just replaced the bearing on the other end of the roller while I had it out, the ones that were bad were just a little dry), 2 in the field (I "smelled" them, end of the day, no downtime). One set of sprockets, one chain (that I had on some old equipment, so didn't cost anything). One pickup wheel pulled off on an ant hill, broke some bolts, I was down a couple hours. Plus sized the belts on it one time. I paid about $12k for it, less than or around $1000 in repairs/parts, and only a few hours of downtime in all these years. It paid for itself easily.... I do need to upgrade, and kinda need to get something with net. Deere is first choice, but I've always been "fond" of Vermeer (I got the 535 at the Vermeer dealer...). Kuhn, never seen any of their equipment in person. But, by the look of it, looks ok. I wouldn't get one this "fancy" though, pickup has a bit much to it. It would have to be 5x6, nobody uses smaller. And 1500-1600lb bales is what people like to load on trucks (for weight).

Mom got to drive the nice truck. Use the MoCo to mow your lawn. Get the Inturn to clean the 82. Time to get the bugs out of the 82 before harvest.

NOT a JD baler fan, but I also have learned a bit about Kuhn, and their equipment seems to be lacking in durability. It's always great when new, but after a few years things suffer from use, and not lack of maintenance.

Very good first view of the KUHN baler in action. Newer and should be better technology/engineering than the older proven JD baler. Both balers have the same basic operation. The KUHN just uses improvements available now to hopefully make the operations smoother and more efficient. This would be a very good addition to the farm. You did discuss the 82 was overkill, but it is what you have. I totally understand that. What HP or Weight tractor would be an optimum size for the KUHN?

It would be interesting to run an equal diameter Kuhn & JD bale across the scale to get a like-to-like comparison in how much actual material is in there, to go with your subjective assessment of the relative bale density. Here's hoping that plenty of bales come off the field near the river.
