Hi Sally many thanks for your reply - much appreciated. - I mean my pearl can only take 2 strands through the hole and I want to add 2 strands such that I will have a total of 4 strands to start the kumihimo on each side of the pearls. I do not know how to do kumihimo with 4 strands. Is it similar to your 8 strands kumihimo. thanks so much.

I have never done just four cords before, all i can say is try it. Or search youtube for 4 warp kumihimo and see if there is a video.

Can you push four or five cords through the focal and add 2-3 on top of the bead?

You can only do even numbers, so you could do 4 cords through bead and then lay the remaining cords over the top.

Hoping you have a typo in your question. You can put 4 cords through your bead, and put those four cords to the right of each dot ( right when looking at dot in the north position ). Then lay the extra 2 cords across the top. One going north/south and the other east/west.
