with long paracord i tend the carefully wrap each one, use a rubber band to bind them and then just pull a little out of the rubber band every few turns

Oh my goodness, I did 16 strands FORGETTING that when it’s folded it’d be double. Lmao!!! 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ guess I’ll have plenty 😂😂 I had already made the mistake of having it all untangled, and then it slipped out of my hand when starting and fell on floor. Yeah…. That’s been FUN!!

I have seen so many videos, nothing really wrong with them, and u sometimes seemed a little uncertain and like a "novice" yourself, BUT omg what I liked you and your video! And to do just this, that I haven't seen before, and the best is that u seems to be a real person, that explains just the way a friend or someone else that u know irl should do. Hope u understand + takes it the right way. Thank u 🙏👌

Ouch! I wouldn't make something for her until she's broken of the habit. It would break my heart to spend so much time on a leash and have it ruined in one chomp. If she bit through it in one or two bites, that's not safe. She could easily take off. I once had the same issue with a foster dog. Surprise! I bought a woven, half-chain, half-cord leash for her right away. (It reminded me of a Chanel handbag strap.) It was amazing how easily she bit through it. She treated the leash like a toy. I couldn't risk her getting loose after one playful bite. Yikes! Chain was safer.

Paracord chewed up by a dog can be deadly. Because the inner strands are nylon they can get tangled in the intestines.

Hi Lisa, lovely video and I definitely want to have a go at making it, however I am having difficulty finding one of the tools. I have found the bead smith kumihimo disc but .....did you say kumihimo spike? And that it’s on amazon? I tried search for it on both amazon.co.uk and amazon.com and even googled it! But I cannot find anything like you had in the video, not even alternative style 😰 I am located in the UK. Kind regards Dawn update when I googled paracord spike instead of kumihimo spike, I have now found some images of some 🥰

Hi, Lisa. Your tutorial is one of the best among manymanymany I have watched. My question is this: How do you keep the thick paracord from ruining the disc? I tried to seat 550 in the slots of my disc and it doesn't slot easily at all. Any advice? Thanks.
@lisasilver70947 жыл бұрын
Angela L. Hi Angela, thank you for watching my video. I have also watched many tutorials, so i tried to include information that helped me when i struggled to figure things out. It makes for a longer video, but hopefully more informative. I don’t really have any tips on how NOT to ruin your disk with thick cord. I watched other videos where you could tell the disk had seen LOTS of wide cord, and those people didn’t have any idea on how to stop it either. I think if a person wanted to do a lot of projects with the disk it would be advantageous to have more than 1 disk for different sizes of cord. FYI at the making of this video this was only the second project i had done on the disk with 550 cord. So it hasn’t had time for the slots to get damaged & stretched. Happy cording! 👋🏻 Lisa

Disks are really inexpensive; yes, you'll ruin it for anything other than Paracord, and possibly have to buy a new one each time you make a leash, but they run around $5 so just part of the expense of the make. Do NOT use one that you've used for Paracord, for anything thinner.
@BigHenFor5 жыл бұрын
Paracord inner strands are designed to be pulled out, and used for fishing line, whipping, mending, etc. 550 paracord has seven of these and removing one or two will reduce the bulk. Just grab one and pull it out, then whilst holding the paracord firmly. Or, if you don't mind hunting for it, try 3mm, or 2mm paracord (aka micro cord) instead of 550 grade which is 4mm wide.

Hi Lisa :) If you add a 4 strand matthew walker knot at your clip, the strands will be in a better position to load your disc. Just a thought.

Hi Lisa. if you used 15 feet per cord for this leash (in this video), how long did your leash end up being?
@kansasbuckhaus97594 жыл бұрын
In the video, she says after she makes the handle, it is about 23 inches. I usually stretch mine out so that it doesn't stretch for the client and I use 25 per strand (100 feet total) and can make a leash about 5 feet long with the handle.

You ended up with a 23inches leash without boiling, so how long was it after you boiled it? It must’ve shortened it a bit if I’m correct.

I am using this technique to make a whip for a costume, and I was wondering, how much cord I would need to make something about 8 feet long?
@lisasilver70947 жыл бұрын
Kayla Durdle thanks for watching my video, i hope it was helpful. My measuring skills are really bad actually. I guessed at how much cord i would need for this leash. The best way i've found is to make 1ft of your project in the weave or knots that you choose, then take apart that 1ft test piece & see how much cord you used. Then you'll know how much cord you will use for every foot of your chosen project. I hope that helps. 👋🏻

Thanks! I'm horrible are figuring out lengths for kumihimo but I've never made anything longer than an 7 inch bracelet

Kayla Durdle You're most welcome ;)
@kilasandra6 жыл бұрын
Depending on the weave and how many cords you use - start at about 2x the length you want to end up with. If you want an 8 foot cord, start at 15 to 16 feet. If you are using more than 8 warps and the cord is going back and forth in the pattern more, you'll need extra, about 2 and a third to 2 and a half times the length you want.

Hello, what size is your disc? I've seen them in various sizes (4 in 6 in etc) is there a advantage in one size or the other. Great video by the way.
@lisasilver70947 жыл бұрын
illmade2 Hello! I only have the one disc, so i can't say 100% if a different size disk would make any difference. The size of the braid can be made smaller if you use a smaller diameter cord. The leash is 550 cord, if you used say 95 cord the braid would be smaller. I hope that helps.

Other sources for fids ... Paracord.com , BoredParacord.com (has a smoothing tool for finishing of a melted end). There are lots on Amazon.com . I'm sure other paracord merchants will have them, too. A more tapered or flattened tip might help is some instances. -?
