Kung Fu Panda (2008) | MOVIE REACTION | FIRST TIME WATCHING

Of all the times I've seen this movie (mostly via reactions like this) this is the first time I noticed this: When Po is demanding that Shifu explain how he'll make him into the dragon warrior, Shifu finally saying "I don't know" was actually a big character growth moment for him. His exchange with Oogway earlier demonstrated that the difference in their philosophies was primarily that Shifu held too tightly to the "illusion of control". Someone who is absolutely determined to be "in control" all the time, does not say things like "I don't know" when asked what they're going to do. On top of that, unless I missed an instance somewhere (which is likely), before that the last time the phrase "I don't know" was uttered it was by Oogway. When Shifu asked who could possibly be worthy of the dragon scroll. It was played for laughs at the time when Oogway just casually said "I don't know", but I think it came full circle when Shifu finally admitted something that Oogway was able to admit so nonchalantly.
