One thing I notice from practicing with Chinese weapons, is how well linked they are. You use sword, staff, spear techniques all as one, as well as bull whips and chain whips.. Most people see all the weapons as different styles, but they're all fundamentally practiced the same way.

"Students of kung fu are more likely to injure themselves when learning whip than any other weapon." Rope dart and three-section staff are both more difficult and dangerous.
@jaredflynn37502 жыл бұрын
I would argue the three section staff is a little bit harder than both of those I train in meteor hammer and rope dart and it's pretty intuitive once you get the basic mechanics down I found learning nunchucks was harder so I guess the three section staff would be closer to that

People love to watch me use this weapon. Even when not used as swiftly, it's a lovely weapon to watch. I describe my relationship with it to that of a cobra: you must build great harmony with it, or it shall strike it's master

@Alesandros356 this is a monk's weapon. the monks were pacifists, it is against their code to be the aggressors. but the temple had valuable art pieces that were worth alot of money, so bandits would target them. the monks would swing the chain whip in hopes that they would scare off the uncommitted. as far as actually hitting people, its the exact same concept as with a sword, stick, fist, or any other weapon. get them in range before swinging.

Rofl so true . Esp if you swinging something around . Even shooting rifle is very dangerous because you get pink eye from it smashing you in the face lol . But that is very noob thing to do . I shot 30.06 at the age of 16 , thing can dislocate your shoulder rofl . Esp if you don't hold it correctly . Thing kicked like a mofo . My firearms class at school all thought I was insane . And none of them would try it . They were like na fck that shit , that's way too hardcore lol . They were like you are nuts , and my teacher thought I was the man lol . Shot a 45 magnium rifle down this train tunnel one day out hunting with a few friends . They were like wtf bro you are insane , made this massive sonic boom rofl and thud sound . And I shot the shit out of this sign down the train track . Guy wasn't to impressed with that , they were like what if someone walking down there . But obviously they weren't I would of seen them rofl . That 45 is an awesome weapon , I need one of these Whips , they look cool as hell . Love a good Compound bow also . Ok I admit it was a bit silly . But we were miles from no where . The chances are probably one in a million someone would of been walking out there on that track esp after hearing all our gun shots lol . Why on earth would you walk towards gun shots .

Agreed. In fact, in doing high kicks in Hankido class I was surprised at how little momentum/force they had near the height of them -especially being barefoot. While mock sparring I doubted I could hurt the other guy if I tried -at least with a high kick. (granted I was a beginner...)One needs to be close, connecting at the middle of the action.

To that comment I say this: "Honorable" combat has no place in today's battleground, and using a gun no more makes one weak than using a bow and arrow made one weak in Medieval times. And like it or not, whether used by a weak man or a dedicated, disciplined professional, a gun is a weapon just like any other. Just because you don't recognize the "honor" in using a gun, doesn't mean that you'll be any less dead when someone shoots you while you're impotently flailing your sword about.
@shanejohnson200217 жыл бұрын
Ok son...tell you what. You pick any gun you want, and I'll take my trusty US Army issued M-16 (seeing as how I'm IN the Army). Now, set us up 100 meters from each other. Easy shot, right? You'd be surprised at how many times I've been missed by insurgents at LESS than 15 meters. And yes, I don't miss from 15 meters. Let alone 100 meters. ;)

Whip has more range so it has better advantage against other weapons. Nunchuks are really good also, but they have lack of range. Nunchuks are easy to train, whip isn't. They are both pretty equal. Choose the one you find better.

@1992marshmallow No. I'm in the army, and they still teach unarmed combat and knife fighting. Guns have been around for hundreds of years, and these weapons coexisted with firearms for about 500 years. And guns make noise, so for stealth, they suck. Also, like KidRaggedBoy posted, if you know how to use the weapon, you can make an improvised one in a pinch.

No clue why those would be considered secondary weapons... Unless your fighting full plate chain weapons can dominate the field of combat. Next to impossible to parry, and damn near harder to dodge... Chain Whips are vicious.
@granthashimoto43859 жыл бұрын
Iceslab The reason they were secondary weapons were because they were small enough to easily carry at one's side. Plus, blades were much more effective weapons for killing.
@Tausami9 жыл бұрын
Iceslab Also, they aren't very practical unless you're fighting by yourself. Generally in a battle an old-timey soldier would have other soldiers from the same side around them. With a sword you can work together with other people, with a chain whip you're just gonna lacerate everyone. Besides, it's difficult to defend yourself with a whip.
@user-ul6bm8pt2y9 жыл бұрын
+Iceslab Next to impossible to keep for more than two strikes. -> Lose your weapon, lose your life. Also you can't use such a weapon next to your allies. All in all I really doubt that it was used was war(!!)-weapon at all. Guess it was fancy duelling and arts stuff.
@Peri0018 жыл бұрын
Part of using a whip effectively in combat is to stop swinging it around..hold both ends and use it for grappling, defense, parry, strangulation..etc.. then, when/if opportunity opens.. strike!
